Basestation update please

To put a date on delivery of LH2 is probably a wild guess from Pimax as I do not think Valve have told OEM’s a schedule, the kit is still in development.

I read earlier that HTC have disabled LH2 extra features in the Pro Bundle so they could deliver it now and then update later with firmware to get around the still-in-development issue.

The reason seems to be a mechanical build quality issue (red light of death which is RMA only) which is why I assume Valve are managing supply extremely tightly and only shipping to HTC in Vive Pro Bundles in small quantities.

Look at the support issues on the front page here:

This is a very bad decision, to wait with LH delivery until controllers are ready. There are plenty to do in VR without controllers, but head tracking is one of the key elements of VR technology. 3DOF is not enough, so your decision make Pimax HMD more or less useless for backers that do not own Vive. You should reconsider, and send LH immediately after when they will be delivered to you by manufacturer, not waiting another 6 mounts or even more, for controllers to be developed and produced.

So you think the LH2 is ready ship now? Have you read any of the other posts about Valve/HTC delays!!!

Yes, I think that LH2 definitely would not take as long to sort things out, as it going to take Pimax to develop and produce controllers.

  1. Lighthouse 2 Base stations are only available if sold in a Bundle (HTC abide by this). I believe is a Valve demand to control supply but it sounds more like a beta test of the units considering the issues.
  2. Lighthouse 2 Base stations are not finished. They have mechanical issues. ETA fix unknown.
  3. HTC probably have a huge back-order of LH2 from Valve for all the Pro HMD only pre-order users that are stuck without a usable product.
  4. Pimax come after HTC

You can not put a date on any of that until Valve release more information.

  1. They already sold to us as bundle. Noone require that bundle can not be sent separately.
  2. Yes, they need to be finished. But I do not think it going to take 6 months.
  3. I do not believe that production is much of a problem. It is a relatively simple device.
  4. Pimax goes after, but my estimation, LH will be available long before Pimax will be able to finish controllers.

That’s assuming they can be shipped separately. Pimax are not offering that option, neither are HTC so hmmmm

Valve take as long as it takes them. How long has LH2 been promised so far? Knuckles even worse. We can hope that they are nearly finished but after Knuckles I kinda gave up hoping for a quick result from Valve.

Yet it is still a problem that has existed for months already. Even an RMA takes from 2 weeks to a month on LH2 red light issue.

Yeah, I agree. It would be simpler to buy a new Vive and wands and sell it when everything falls into place.

I guess this is the price people pay for being early adopters.

I don’t need wands, I need only base stations. It cost around 150$, to my understanding you have to buy 2, because you can not setup Pimax software with just one. And after things settle down, there will be plenty of those on the market. I think used will be sold for around 30$, or even less. Great deal!

Its all conjecture because we still have no idea as they are saying very little, that why this keeps getting revisited.

Well in the mean time, they could be designing, prototyping and manufacturing the controllers.

“We are currently using all our resourses on headset manufacturing”
Solution: hire more workers.

And then make them all redundant in February when the initial rush is over…very friendly.

Only If you employed them as permanent employees, which you wouldn’t.

A baby requires a woman for nine months. You can’t make a baby in a month using nine women.

You can’t hire engineers or developers for a month

In my country they’re $200 each, so another $400 (which is what I paid for Odyssey+ with 6dof and controllers delivered halfway around the world with shipping included). 2nd hand are rare and cost nearly as much. A full package 2nd hand costs more and few people here want to buy the hmd without lighthouses.

Please show me $30 lighthouses, or anything cheap, I’ll snap them up. I’ve was previously looking worldwide and with postage everything was over $400.

What are people’s thoughts on this:

How about Pimax comes up with the number of backers willing to exchange their v2 lighthouses from the future for v1 lighthouses now, and then approach valve for a bulk buy of v1 lighthouses now.

I would definitely take v1 lighthouses with my hmd rather than v2’s sometime down the track.

Obviously vive users would not be in for this, but are there enough of us that this could happen?

Flinnt search for used vive will probably be the cheapest solution.
