I think Pimax have decided that they are not going to send any lighthouses until they have developed their controllers. I really hope they have been working on them and they have some working prototypes already . Remember that Pimax have zero experience with developing controllers .
I never would have thought it early on, but ebaying this thing is becoming more attractive.
Given pimax time, I’m likely to wait 12 months for lighthouses and controllers. 3dof is useless to me. I don’t want to buy a vive. It’s likely we’ll have options from valve and xtal in around 12 months (fingers crossed). So my Pimax will sit on a shelf for 12 months before I get another new hmd anyway.
I also have an odyssey+ on its way to satisfy my need for upgrade from rift.
Ebay is looking a real possibility.
To all complaining very vocally about Pimax messing this up, grabbing your money, and what have you - so you have obviously verified before ranting along that Valve is actually making the LH 2.0 available to 3rd party vendors other than HTC where it is known that Pimax eill essentially just relabel the boxes they get from Valve? Yes ? Sure you have, you wouldn‘t be so stupid to not first check such an obvious prerequisitie before complaining so vocally ?
Oh, you did not check. Awkward…
(and yes, I would like to get them too and I have no clue why Valve is making the LH2.0 system so incredibly hard to get by that you can‘t even buy them separately from HTC nor any other source)
I’m not placing blame, just stating things as I see them.
It’s really bad for pimax to release without 6dof (unless you buy a competitors product as well), but not necessarily their fault. They may well have believed they would be supplied lighthouses by now, but hindsight shows some form of contracted guarantee of supply would have been prudent. Even if it meant using lighthouse 1s.
@anon74848233 We have previously been told the base stations were being produced by Valve for which Pimax must have a contract to supply, terms of reference to supply a said amount by a said date, if not what exactly do we have ?
Your answer is too vague, we need specifics
Yes I agree, I think they should stop shipping all HMD’s immediately and not ship any more until HTC release the LH’s to them. It will give them plenty of time to produce enough HMD’s to send at least one to each backer.
Huh?
Words aren’t whatever you want them to be.
What can Pimax do? It’s not like they are making them.
I assume Valve is the one holding off at this point. Right?
You should consider your KS pledge early access to the HMD that does gyro tracking, with the OPTION to work with your Vive if you have one and a promise you will receive the new lighthouses later if you bought them and when they become available.
It’s not ideal but it’s the best anyone can do.
It’s more than likely Pimax won’t end up getting stock of Valve light houses until the Vive cosmos and Knuckles are announced
At that point in time we will have the choice of highly developed and beta tested Valve Knuckles or Chinese knockoff controllers. I know which one I’ll be getting
Yes I understand this. I’m just saying the usefulness and therefore attraction to the product for me is becoming much less. Not so for others who will still pay me a good price.
Yes I previously had that thought. Valve can steal potential Pimax customers by launching before pimax has lighthouses and controllers. Part of why selling early is more attractive to me.
I don’t understand this apparent shortage of lighthouse modules . The Vive pro is the only other headset that uses the v2 . Are the Vive pro headsets in huge demand ?
Why on earth would Valve supply this company with lighthouses to sell cheap from China while their main client HTC is buying them in bulk?? There’s politics going on behind this that’s why they cant get them
I knew it was to good to be true the minute they added them to kickstarter. I was throwing my money at them for for base stations Delivery was meant to be a year ago
Pimax now claim Q2 2019… There is no possible way Pimax will have a fully working controller ready to mass produce by then
Yep I wish I backed only the headset . It looks like we are in for another long ride waiting for the controllers . If Pimax have some working prototypes I would love to see them . Besides a 3d printed brick we know absolutely nothing about these controllers .
I would switch my money for the controllers and basestations to wireless module if I can. I already bought a Vive so I’m good with 6dof for now and will likely also buy the knuckels when they become available
I have to admit that when adding the LH boxes & controllers to my pledge I was completely aware that the LH boxes would be fine, because just being Valve hardware resold & relabelled by Pimax - just did not anticipate the delay by Valve, but I’ve got LH 1 boxes here so don’t need the Pimax ones anytime soon.
The controllers - okay, I essentially took the view that I’d be paying 300$ for a pair of LH 2.0 boxes and the controllers are a freebie on top. If you’d guess what I expect from the controllers, you would be overestimating. Pretty much no matter what you guess… they apparently still haven’t created any prototype with true function yet, and we have seen how long the refinement of the Touch aand the Knuckles took/takes: just forget about getting any competitive controllers from Pimax - that is just a bridge too far for them. And frankly, as soon as the Knuckles are available there is no point in having Pimax waste engineering capacity on such accessoires which would be available in superior quality from Valve. Pimax have a vision for headsets, and that’s what they should focus on.
I’ve said it before but I wish pimax had kept the controllers simple. Just vive wands with analog sticks. Maybe we would have them in January if they did.
These knuckle style controllers are probably going to take a long time & I don’t think they are going to live up to our expectations. They should just keep it simple & make them work well
LOL “Valve Time” is an internet joke going round if you haven’t heard of it. It will be interesting to see how long in Valve Time it takes for them to release their Knuckles controllers. They’re on there final version and like over 200 have been sent out to developers for testing. Also it’s been in the works for a long long time. Valve hasn’t even announced, preorders, pricing, sales or anything yet! it’ll be months before you get your hands on one/pair… All we’ve seen from Pimax is a 3d printed mockup… Nuff said. Good luck suckors.
damn, I tried to say the same thing but you did it so much better… I wonder if Valve and HTC have a non competitive contract and Valve can’t release their own hardware till the contract expires… like Q1 2019… Maybe we’ll get a 150fov 5k headset and controllers announcement early next year… Would kinda make sense since they “Leaked” the Headset Photos without confirming or denying anything. Also, if they did, who do you think would get priority on hardware for controllers… Maybe they should just give up on controllers and keep upgrading Headsets…
