About the Pimax 5K+ Black dots Replacement

Do you see those dots on the white background?

Where did you see this offer? I’d change to 5K+ if true but I thought they ended choice changes.

They did, but Pimax decided to offer 8K backers 1 last chance to switch, due to delays in receiving panels for the 8K.

"Since there is a sufficient supply of the 5K Plus headsets, if any 8K backers choose to switch to 5K Plus, we can ship it immediately. " https://community.openmr.ai/t/the-next-shipment-for-pimax/13469?u=neal_white_iii

Yes, I have the Od+, but i think it’s for anti sde

Look to Red, Brown, Orange, White colour.

Wow, and I had gotten the wrong impression that the black dot issue was something that was inherent and normal to the panels… this is great news! Good service policy.

Yes I do… what’s the process? Just noticed it while mining in ED. When an icy 'stroid 'splodes it released pure white. I honestly thought it was normal

I think this dirty screen effect on the new 5K+ panels is more serious than the black dots. But maybe they can fix it.

You have a headset with the “dirty screen” effect? The impressions I had read said that the black dots were much worse than the dirty screen effect…

Look at the first post.

Wish I had. But I noticed the dirty screen mura effect on other VR models and I didn’t liked it. So it looks like the dark dots have been replaced by another screen artifact, making it easier for me to stick to 8K.

That’s actually the CORRECT impression.

It appears that 1 or more batches of LCD panels (for the 5K+) were touch sensitive screens, which have additional layers on top of the LCD. Those dots are tiny spacers, which prevent 2 layers from touching, when no finger is pressing the layers together. It even makes sense that Pimax might have gotten a good deal on the panels, which are resistive and can only recognize a single touch-point. Capacitive multi-touch screens are far more popular, so the manufacturer might have been trying to dump some obsolete panels.

The solution is easy, for new units: Use non-touch LCD panels, which is generally cheaper, since it’s simpler.

Ah ok

What’s a SUPEN?

SUPEN is Pimax’s shorthand for a customer-support ticket number.

Ah makes sense then!

Neal, has the touch sensitive screen deal been confirmed by Pimax or is that your theory?

I think that is a theory, but Pimax said it was to improve contrast and colors before:

Yes, but many of us never actually believed that. If you follow the link in my previous post above, you’ll see that the diagrams look exactly like the black dot effect…

Excellent news! I’m happy to see Pimax are committed to providing quality products and treating backers well. We all want to see this company succeed, and things like this will do a lot for your reputation with VR buyers.

Yes, I definitely think it’s the touch screen thingy.
