About the Pimax 5K+ Black dots Replacement

The only thing that i know its that we were talking about black dots that sweviver mentioned in this video, we asked several times why the new headsets dont have the dots like the old headsets. they said they would give an answer. The answer was this post, that they would change. anyway the reality is some backers have worst headsets than others and that its not ver good. They started to sent the new headsets to overseas in half of this month. But the backers that receive an answer from pimax almost one month that headset was sent to wharehouse probably will receive the old one. i am one of them.

Maybe it’s just a packaging error.

What really bugs the crap out of me is that Pimax makes this big announcement (the OP) and then just disappears! They let the community flounce around for a friggin week with debates, theories, wringing of hands, and we hear NOTHING to clarify our confusion!! Two days into the thread Matthew makes one measly post -

"After-sales problems require our technical team to respond to you…" . And that’s it. Nothing more.

The timing of Matthew’s post shows that he has seen us flounce about because it comes IMMEADIATELY after Hossam’s post with photos of the dot pattern and Pimax’s response to him that these do not qualify for a replacement. This kind of treatment of the community shows total disrespect IMO. And that’s how it’s been from day one IMO. This announcement MADE the deal for me in switching from 8k to 5k+ and I now think I was wrong in my understanding of the “black dot” fix/replacement.

Another thing… would it have broken their bank to have ONE native English speaker on their payroll? It would have prevented untold amount of confusion for the last year. Granted they can’t have a native speaker for every language in the world but everyone has gravitated to English as the “universal” language (at least for now) so getting that right helps the whole world including the English-as-second-language people who probably have an even harder time trying to grasp what Pimax really means in their English communications.

@PimaxUSA See above post by ricknau.
Can you help the 5K+ backers here?

Also please help 8K backers in the 8K thread: https://community.openmr.ai/t/pimax-official-to-pimax-8k-backers/13868/31

Lots of backers are fed up with Pimax just going silent and letting us have to guess everything. Why can’t Pimax communicate properly???

I thought hiring @PimaxUSA was going to help with this, but it seems it is as worse as ever. PLEASE HELP

that will be the next excuse passing blame to regional teams lol

There is a topic on it in the forum.

Yes I know;

https://community.openmr.ai/t/the-black-dots-exist-on-the-oculus-go/11821

But I don’t see any photo of it nor black dots on my go, I will try to take some pictures

So then it’s possible you might not notice them either.

Yes, it’s possible, but I see them on the @bubbleball videos, I’ll try to take some photos, if they are in the Go they will appear in the photos

I couldn’t agree more, well said !

@PimaxUSA Black dots, another hot potato to deal with it seems.

For me no back pedaling from pimax can be accepted. The black dots issue was extremely clear, a 10 years old child wouldn’t have made the confusion with dead pixels.

An annoucement has been made, initiated by Pimax themsleves, and stating black dots will be accepted as a valid reason to ask for a remplacement.

This promise must now be honored.

On top of that it would be wise Pimax give us a technical explanation (no need to go deep into details) about how this black dot issue has been (almost) solved (= black dots almost invisible on some 5K+). Pimax must know that, because if they were not then how could they replace 5K+ affected by black dots with “black-dots-free” samples ?

@PimaxUSA See this also. Doesn’t it reminds you a recent “futile discussion” ? Glassy99 and me don’t know each other. So see, I’m not alone completely exasperated by the lack of answers from Pimax on several subjects, but also by the fact that when they communicate it is always subject to misinterpretation.

Recently I was suggesting to one of the pimax staff posting here that all their efforts should be put on answering all the remaining questions. His answer was “I know what I have to do, thanks”. I haven’t answered despite I was convinced he wasn’t getting the real meaning of my suggestion.

And then the days later, bingo, I see Pimax staff answering through the forum to any single post/tickets from individuals asking about their own problem (most often “where is my HMD”).

Of course this is not what I had in mind when I suggested to answer all the remaining questions. The questions I was referring to were those affecting backers more globally, like this black dots issue for exemple, or the situation for the lighthouse.

This is what the staff should focus on in the forum. A forum isn’t made to deal with all individual cases directly, this is the role of the support system (or if you want to allow it through the forum then a subcategory must be dedicated to that).

Of course it implies this support system must be efficient at solving individual cases, which doesn’t seem to be the case right now. And then we see people poking the staff here on the forum about their support tickets handled badly by the support system, and this creates this insane mess preventing global questions to be properly dealt with on the forum (= what should be one of the main purpose of the forum).

Anyone who has the black dot pattern on their 5k+ display,

Please post here:

Please include a pic of your panel flaw…

Thank you…

This is how it looks on my 5k+:

Your pic is much clearer than what I could get…

It’s possible that I see the residual “footprints” of the dots of the Oculus Go. As in, they removed the dots, but couldn’t avoid something being there. It takes a lot of focus to see them. I only tested using a white background (open a webpage on the Oculus browser).

I took the photo on a tripod with manual focus to get a good picture.

I really wish that the beta testers made a bigger deal out of this. It’s true that you need good eyesight to see them, but once you do, you’ll keep seeing them all the time.

I don’t see any black dots on the Oculus Go

Agreed…
All I see are the gaps between the pixels and some irregularities with spacing…
No pattern to be seen…

I agree, and I do not even have very good sight. I saw them right in the first “Planet scenery”. The thing is that in fast paced games they are hardly noticeable, but if you play something where you like to look at things, or watch a movie, do stuff in bigscreen, they pop up as a distraction.

What I see in my Oculus Go is more grey than black. I can almost make them out in your first picture. Perhaps it’s harder to focus with a camera since technically the dots would be on a different layer than the SDE. There’s something there, just not obvious like the 5K+.
