I’ll take your word for it!
I can appreciate that the + upscaler would have an impact, albeit small, but being 2nd gen, even less of an idea as to what that precise impact would be…

Well; Just load up any picture in graphics program, and downsample it to 66% its size, and then back up again.
He has had issues getting HP to respond to his rma request as I recall he posted.
I’m not holding my breath on the release date… I have NO faith in this company. Plus, I’m FAR from the only one. Sadly, it’s really not funny. I’d be in your camp if I didn’t see on this very forum a long list of people who have tried and failed to get through to Pimax - or that I, myself, had not already slogged through over a year of being told different dates by a list of Pimax employees. Each date came and went. Again, not funny. But hey, if a Pimax employee thought it was silly what can I do? Evidently nothing till yet another date whooshes by.
And will having defective HW stop him from doing comparisons? Nope?
Of course not and ppl know he has a defect HP shipped out a lot of bad hmds. Whats worst is HP is ignoring some in getting it replaced. No surprise as they are just as bad with quality in tge last 10 years with commercial accounts with Printers.
A few retailers here don’t even ask questions with any HP product returns. Which is sad as at one time they had decent quality. I used to reccommend a variety of products. I still have an old HP monitor with all the plugins except DP (yes even S Video) & it still a great monitor. Last year gave it to a friend who uses it daily.
I can understand the frustration of waiting so long for X, and I’m well aware of the issues around communication and support.
But what I don’t get is, why kick off massively 2-3 days before the X announcement? If you’ve waited so long already, why not wait a few days more?
If they announce the X is unexpectedly delayed by a year (which seems doubtful), you can then kick off with full justification right?
But, if as expected, shipping for backers starts next week or thereabouts, with orders for everyone else opening and the first backer deliveries in December, won’t all this be a bit unnecessary?
I’m just going to see what the plan is on Monday morning next week. Here in the UK it’s Saturday already, not long to go
Ppl know… Where on video he write “8kx prototype vs defective reverb v1”? He even calls them both 4k hmds with same rez, when ones rez is 2k x 2k per eye vs 4k x 2k. Very inacurate. But important is only PPD which is on paper higher on reverb.
innovative :
(of a product, idea, etc.) featuring new methods; advanced and original. “innovative designs”
not necessarily a new invention, the Apple IPOD was innovative but not a new invention
So in this case maybe advance with 4K panels and large FOV and original with the blue light and cracks on the headset
which ones? the big ones on the right or the smaller ones on the left
Okay lets weigh them.
8kX at release will come with MAS but need to wait on reviews.
HP support & quality comparable with Pimax. But Pimax is improving on both Support & Quality.
Reverb cable is 4m btw. But still, comparing defective HW to working properly is not fair. Agree or not?
If HP didn’t want a defective unit bring reviewed they woulld respond to getting it Rma right?
Folks askec for comparisons knowing he had HP quality released v1.
Isnt HP themselves calling it a 4K headset?
The defectives are red smear, mura, flickering right eye after 20minutes, cable connector disconnects randomly, occasional vertical line SDE (dont use shots getting these) and some more minor stuff.
However, the defectives has nothing to do with the rendered resolution and SDE, so for SDE shots there is nothing to blame on.
Meanwhile, SweViver compares with a non-final 8KX, non-final 8K+, first backer batch 5K+ and 8K, first wave Valve Index and first batch HTC Vive from april 2016…
@SweViver Honestly though I think Index would be a good point of referencing. I’m only saying that because I assume people who want to upgrade to a Pimax would own one.
I know you don’t really care much about the reverb since you have the 8k x but have you tried contacting hp support? They’re supposed be be giving out replacements for anyone who had issues with the first batch.
Certainly be worth getting a replacement but the really short cable, washed out colors, lack of IPD slider, pencil sized sweet spot etc. are still there right?
The “fix” revolves around the overheating and banding issues right? Being a VR fan I was super excited to try the Reverb but it was like they just stopped working on it somewhere in the middle.
An Index for example seems a nice all-around device in relative comparison.
Hi @PimaxUSA . Would there be any chance of an updated XR model in the near future? The Index and reverb are great headsets but the LCD blacks are a huge downside. A premium OLED device would be a huge advantage to Pimax over the current offerings. Is there any word on supply of the new OLED tech being demonstrated by BOE Samsung and LG?
