Both the current metal and plastic hinges have the incorrect position for the down stop position. I have the current plastic hinge and have modified the down stop by removing 1mm off the face of the each of the 2 down stops on each of the hinge pivot shafts. The width across the stops of the inner flange was 8mm and will be 7mm after cutting or grinding the plastic. A sharp blade will suffice for trimming. The left hand side is the reverse of the RH. Over the last 3 days I have tried to inform everyone that what I have done rectifies the problem with the plastic hinge. Until Pimax manufacture a revised hinge nobody will be able to rectify this problem. If you check a couple of days back you will find photos and description. I have attached another couple of photos to try to show what is required. It works and will not weaken the hinge. The method proposed by Pimax COO by forcing past the stops just flattens the weaker stops on the outer section of the hinge so I would not advise that you do that as you will no longer have a down stop.
Yes I get what you are saying and have done, but how do you know if its the post, the bit you took off 1mm from, and not the hole/slot that it fits into is not wrong, (the shop on the strap) ?

I have no X but asked for measurements, I tried to compare BNP’s & Mike’s notches angles in strap socket & for me they looked at the same angle, also I checked hinges & angle on them also the same, the difference in material & plastic one has prong for strap notches not along the whole height of prong axis but much smaller.
Well Pimax was having problems with the plastic parts, and had to update them, But as the two parts (plastic part and metal part) look to be the same, is it not possible the manufacturing defect could also be the strap part.
Could it not be the STOPS are in the wrong position ?
Not saying it is, but it is a possibility.
I ordered a set of calipers - ill let you know my exact measurements then.
I dont believe they strap can be different also - that would just be a royal F up… Basically it means the Backers got a different MAS possibly.
So are we all supposed to open ticket now? In thread linked below it was said we should just leave order number, so what is the official procedure?
Either method is OK. She’s monitoring that thread for order numbers.
that looks like a planning error, too many parts that play into each other. the design is the mistake. all straps were just rolled past the quality control. what you show would be the same solution as turning the cylinder. not thought through to the end. Without them you can turn around, maybe smaller will do the job.
Would love to see some pics of the STOPS after some one has forced the strap down. Can not see the stops surviving very well.
I’m awaiting the pics from pimaxusa. Looks like this is the “solution” or workaround.
I can not believe how everyone is over thinking this whole problem with the plastic hinge. I have the current plastic hinge on my 8KX and have taken 15 minutes to shave 1mm of plastic off the four down stops on the centre pivots (LH &RH hinges) as shown in the photo above.
This is my last attempt because it seems that a lot of people that don’t even have the hinges to look at are try to troubleshoot the problem.
I am happy with the fit of my HMD and do not have to wait for Pimax to correct the geometry an manufacture a new replacement hinge.
Cheers and good luck
The stops on the strap are hollow which is why some have forced the strap down into an acceptable position. However this is not how it is designed to work. These are stops!!!
Sure if they were repositioned it would be okay but all you need to do is remove 1mm from each contact face on the inner flanges on the centre pivot shaft and the strap will drop to the level shown in my photo above.
Above you see my problem @PimaxQuorra @PimaxUSA
Is there a video how to remove the hinges?
And yes the strap is loosened even with a alot of force it cant go down any lower
Loosen the plastic screw a bit and see if that helps.
wich plastic screw?..
The big round thumbscrew. That entire round plastic piece is a screw.
let me try…
doesnt work,even weith them off
For what it is worth: Plastic hinges here, and they won’t go down, just like, from what I hear, the metal ones won’t.
I just did the swap thing, so that I got them upside-down, now. This orientation of the stops of course means now they won’t go up, for comfortably donning, and taking the HMD off, but I can live with that…
