8K X Occasionally Blacks out for a few seconds (Potentially Solved, EMI Ground Loop/ Interference likely the cause)

In PiTool untick screensaver.

Ye i turned that off a long time ago. That wasn’t the issue for me either.

Another blackout as soon as i went into a practice session. Stayed off about 8 seconds or so. So something’s definitely not good here.

Dave, its Gary T from iRacing forums. Thats not worked for me either unfortunately.

The problem has become so bad now I’ve had to go back to 75hz

I had a large Ferrite Core on the optical cable. I just removed it, just in case that was causing some of the blackout, but i highly doubt that was an issue.

And lastly i just changed gpu’s from my other pc. I have 2 3090’s. I was using the 3090 FE which had the blackouts. Now I switched to an evga ftw3 ultra 3090

Lets hope this does it although i feel skeptical

I wonder if there are 2 separate issues going on here? For me screensaver seemed to be the issue but for others it makesno difference. Are we now pushing the bandwidth so high that cable quality is the issue?

iRacing doesn’t really stress the bandwith in my opinion. The GPU is never at 90%+ in iRacing. It’s mainly CPU-bound. Unless it’s just at 1.0 it’s still too much bandwith - which could very well be the case.

I’ll report back if this other GPU is giving me the same issue.

Okay, I think its clear its not an iRacing, GPU or a hz thing. It has happened in Derail Valley, Onward, Pavlov, Phasmophobia for me. I’m using a GTX 1080 series GPU and others have stated using RTX 2000 and 3000 series GPU’s. I’m running my 8KX at 60hz and 75hz it makes no difference on the blackouts. there is something else causing this issue. Is everyone using Pimax Experience?

Thats exactly what I said. I figured to switch the GPU JUST IN CASE, but ive tried everything else so far and nothing helps it.

Start a support ticket and let them know your issues.
We need tech support to look into this issue fellas. So please start a support ticket!

It almost has me convinced its a heat issue on the controller. I never had this issue till recently, but I can remember a DIY projector I built that had a similar issue when the controller overheated. Sadly the only outcome from a heat issue like this is, total failure.

Pimax needs to step up and say something about this before its too late.

I remember when i first tried the 8k x, on the top left of it, just above the cable it would get extremely hot to the touch, but lately i havent felt that kind of heat since they updated pitool a bit. Others noticed similar heat issues, but those have been gone since a while ago.
Other than that, the issue is only video cut-off. The game and sound stay connected 99% of the time for me.
The only thing i can think of is it’s just pushing too much through DP 1.4’s bandwith maybe. But i have no way of testing this… Unless someone knows how this can be done while running an on-going log to see what happens when it actually blacks out.

Kevin said he would speak to tech support and see if there’s some kind of continuous log they can activate for me, but who knows how far that will go.

Just keep the pressure on them. Open a tech support ticket up guys! Follow through with it.

Ticket opened!! lets see what happens now. I will take one for the team and play today on potato at pitool render quality .5 and steam SS 20% at 60hz, game graphics settings on low.

Not sure what difference it will make to the bandwidth demands seeing I’m not pushing the settings now anyways. I usually play on normal at render quality 1.5, steam SS at 40% at 60hz and game settings around medium quality.

Ive been running iRacing at pitool 1.0, steamVR 100%, and thats with a 3090. There’s really no need to push iRacing any more because i didnt see any difference. Ive tried 75 and 90, and i used 90hz for a few days until the last 3 days it started to pop up again.

Usually I find Pitool render quality setting easier on my PC than Steam SS. If I use steam SS at 100% I can’t play anything smooth no matter what render quality I use in Pitool.

But I have a wimpy GTX 1080 non Ti version. I’m just glad I can play games smooth without it looking like total crap.

I Dream of the day I can use steam SS at 100%

You should still be ok in IRacing. Use fpsVR to see how the graph looks. If it’s still all green with no drops, you’re good

Mike you misunderstand what I mean by bandwidth, but maybe I’ve misunderstood your issue. If you are running at 90Hz and 4k per eye native we are pushing Displayport 1.4a this would explain blackouts when the signal doesn’t quite get through if you had a noisy cable for instance. Bandwidth has nothing to do with the software you are running.

Well ive tried the original cable and it happened at 75hz. I tried another default cable - same thing happened

Ive tried the optical cable at 75hz and 90hz - same issue
And i got a 2nd optical cable - same thing

4 cables - same issue.

So im not sure what it could be. I switched gpu’s now so ill continue testing to see if the issue persists. If it does, ill likely update the nvidia driver and turn off afterburner since the newest update conflicts.

Ok that’s more worrying then as 75Hz isn’t pushing the bandwidth of DP1.4a as much as the 90Hz is. I wonder if this is a hardware issue on the 8kx HMDs and it’s pot luck whether you suffer from it or not.

It happens in 60hz as well
