Regardless the confusion, 2562 x 2106 is suspiciously low. The regular 5k+ in Normal Native mode (without the PP) is recommending 3200 x 2632.
At this res, it should not affect the result.
Assuming that 5k+ is already maximizing the utilization of the panel, then having the new 4K panel of the old 5k+ panel size is the only option to utilize the same FOV and the optics. Smaller panel at the same distance with limit the FOV, at the closer distance will require different lenses (focused at the closer distance).
I do not believe the vertical offset should impact the res, it should just shift the virtual camera vertically, but using the same viewing frustum (which define the res). I cannot confirm that though as any PiTool version > 132 is not working very well for me and I am stuck with v132 (which does not have vertical offset option).
I understand your point, but Iâm not sure thatâs how itâs implemented. Regardless, I have 2 different vertical offsets (3 and 8), since my eyes donât quite line up. I think that would have to expand the res, for consistency between each eyeâs view.
You can run hmdq on your setup and check the corresponding values (viewing frustums and eye2head transform matrices). This will tell you exactly how it works.
The 8k + and 8k X have higher resolution in vertical and horizontal ⌠just as a reminder it was 2560 * 1440 On the 5k+ and now is 3840 * 2160 and usually for me itâs higher in steam For my 5k like @risa2000 said.
Edit : so @yanfeng is closer but still a view pixels missing on x*y per eye.
How Pimax have âoptimisedâ panel usage as we know that lenses are exactly the same ?
The ~15% better utilization probably comes only from smaler panel size which they choosed for full RGB model.
@neal_white_iii : Pitool 0.75 and Steam VR 100% is most likely the reason why your Pimax 8K+ is not as clear as Index. You might try at least Pitool 1.0 and Steam VR 100%.
If Pimax had these light weight, small, pressure sensitive hand controllers NOW instead of Sword/Sword Sense gauntlets or needing Valve Index controllers, theyâd destroy the competition.
I have never tried an Index, so I canât make that comparison.
I did try PiTool 1.0 and SteamVR 100%. It did not look as good on my 8K. There was significant color fringing (due to the subpixel ârainbowâ pattern). Of course, the low framerate was unplayable. Previously, I was using PiTool 1.0 and SteamVR 80%, but the small text was fuzzy. The text at 0.75 and 100% was noticeably crisper and much more readable.
Hmm, no spatial tracking yet, apparently, (other than with bolting on a pair of Vive pucks) but two enthusiastic thumbs up here, for not forcing the user into a pistol trigger grip and big annoying bulb with thumbsticks and such junk, that gets in the way.
They should post horizontal and vertical as @Heliosurge already wrote. Diagonal is just confusing, because without knowing the aspect ratio, it is basically useless. Plus, Pimax is not able to correctly calculate the diagonal FOV, what they post is mathematically impossible.
