@Matthew.Xu I also have a 1070, only in a desktop OC with 16gb RAM and an i7.
I have been very concerned that my 1070 won’t be sufficient to play most games in a way that’s enjoyable. I would really really appreciate it if you could do some testing with games like Arizona Sunshine and Onward on a machine with a 1070.
Most likely the 1070 will be playable but one will have to dial back the settings somewhat. If your laptop has Thunderbolt V3 on it (40Gbs) then there is also the eGPU optiion that can be applied for things like VR.
Hooking an external 1080TI or better to the laptop for extra juice. Now one needs to consider the CPU of the laptop for VR applications as well as the i7U CPU’s are quite hamstrung for VR applications and one would be better off with a HQ or HK/K processor.
A reminder to folks that eGPU’s work best if they are the only device on the Thunderbolt Port running, no USB3 devices connected and that the Laptop Display is disabled. Not sure if somehow Windows could utilise the processing power of the on board GPU as well as the eGPU maybe DirextX12 and Vulcan do that.
I’m planing on teaming mine up with a Aero 15X, if I ever see delivery of it as the delivery date seems to be getting pushed back.
Indeed it’s always fun learning these things. Why i always reccommend using the convenience of google & a smart phone.
Years ago now i ran into a 1080p signal capable projector. Cheap bulbs. This is when i first learned of what Native resolution was vs input resolutions. I would have been quite upset buying it. Native resolution was 640*480.
Indeed now would still be alot to carry extra but you can buy graphic boosters to use full desktop cards. But i believe is still not as good as pure desktop setup but much stronger than the laptop gpus.
***Your right recently came across 2 1080ti users talking about having i7s & one had better fps performance then the other. The user said even though steam reported no dropped frames. That after upgrading his i7 from something like 3550k to one if the better or new series his fps went up. Might be something to test is difference in cpu.
The external Gpu boosters usually either plug in via a special port or a mini pci xpress port like yout wireless card in the laptop is. Many laptoos now have m2? X4 slot(might have better). Will not be as good as desktop but can be better than laptop gpu.
I am using hp omen 17. All it has is the usb 3.0, hdmi and a mini display port 1.2 but 1.4 ready (is that a new concern by itself?). Not sure about the wireless card, i thought all egpu require thunderbolt 3. What do you think I can do @heliosurge? I’ll research on the wireless card egpu
The laptop does have an m2 nvme ssd and a sata slot. Maybe I should take the m2 ssd out and use a sata drive instead, then plug an egpu to the m2 slot?
Seems like for my specific laptop, there’s a risk an egpu will not work at all. Because there’s no thunderbolt 3 and no one out there is trying other solutions. And other solutions are not guaranteed to work.
I can’t say with your laptop but do remember the idea. However you would want to find one & ask that manufacturer if they have one that would work with your laptop & check forums for your laptop.
Your laptop manufacturer should be able to give info if one would be compatiable as well.
Btw, I know that pimax is intending to upscale 1440P per eye to 4k per eye. Is it possible to make the game run at 1080p per eye, then have it upscaled to 4k per eye? That should make the 1070 laptop usable right?
To play vr on a laptop?
Do you really want to play vr on the laptop? Can you imagine how much resource eating vr games?
You cannot get a normal frame rate on laptops
You want to play normally, buy a real powerful desktop pc
