Will a gtx 1070 in an HP Omen with i7 and 8gb ram work for all games like vanishing realms, fallout 4 VR, space pirate trainer and robo recall through revive? Or will it only work for basic games like fruit ninja?
Should work fine however some laptops pass through the onboard intel graphics & limit output to 60hz as a result.
@VRGIMP27 knows alot about this hybrid option. You will want to checkbhow your laptop runs gpu.
Thank you for replying @Heliosurge I’ve been playing htc vive for a while. And I am not noticing, if it is actually running at 60Hz. If I don’t notice it, I don’t care. But I am backing a Pimax 8K at KS and it seems like a whole different beast. I will be getting a fallout 4 VR in December and would love to have it run on my gtx 1070 laptop. So you are saying, that it should run smoothly on the pimax 8k? Or at least playable without inducing nausea by adjusting certain settings?
I hope @VRGIMP27 can jump in here to comment as well, if he notices the post.
A 1070 laptop should be ok for basic experiences, definitely. The others I would assume should run fine with settings dialed back a bit.
If your laptop has a 7700hq, that CPU is probably roughly analogous (could be wrong) to the Skylake I5 6402p (the chip that initially came in my bundled desktop.)
If its a 7820hk model that will give you more performance, but either are workable CPUs.
GPU wise you should be fine. You may get CPU limited in some games, but only by about 5hz-10hz if you dont optimize settings 1st.
Im not sure why you are worried about integrated graphics? Its not an optimus laptop, (those are the ones ive heard have problems.)
@VRGIMP27 my laptop does have the 7700HQ. You are saying I’ll get by, if I dial down the settings? Ok, I can live with that thanks for replying.
@Matthew.Xu can you say what CPU is in the laptop you use to demo the 8k? for @Yulius?
I mentioned it as was not sure if it had the Optimus dual graphics you had mentioned that it ouputs the nvidia through the intel igpu.
@Yulius I don’t see it causing an issue as VRG said you may need to tweak settings. With FO4 VR not out yet its hard to say on performances. However if your playing similar graphic games fps then should be fine.
@Heliosurge @VRGimp27 thanks for your help and advice. Hopefully @Matthew.Xu has some input too. If I can only play very basic games like fruit ninja, that would be a deal breaker. But if I can at least play games like sairento vr, robo recall, raw data and vanishing realms, I would happily get it. However, I am a little worried the wireless will not work well as well as say… tpcast. And even tpcast seems to have problems getting into the US market. But thats for another topic.
Now that @evertec said a gtx 1080 (SLI?) Only managed to produce 75Hz on some games and also an “out of memory” error while playing Onward. I would really love @deletedpimaxrep1 @Matthew.Xu or @PimaxVR assure me that a gtx 1070 laptop would be enough to play vanishing realms, sairento vr, robo recall, raw data and fallout 4 VR on the pimax 8k without inducing nausea or lousy frame rates, if I am willing to dial down the settings for the games. Please answer guys. Thanks
The CPU seems to be E5.
@Matthew.Xu can you please respond to my post above? Do you think my laptop can run those games reasonably?
I will reply to your post later, and I am currently getting some information from my colleagues in New York. Thank you
@Matthew.Xu I will be waiting eagerly for your reply. Thank you.
An E5 or an I5? If its an E5, that would be a Xeon
@Matthew.Xu Have you gotten the information yet from your colleagues? Will there be a problem for my laptop to run those games. I can tell you I Tried asking more than 7 times here and on the kickstarter page without anyone officially from Pimax responding. This is extremely important for me. Please reply
@Pimaxvr @deletedpimaxrep1 Can you please chip in? Can a gtx 1070 laptop with i7 7700hq run games like vanishing realms and fallout 4 vr on the pimax 8k smoothly enough? I don’t mind diallling down the settings for the games.
I dont know if you have heard the recent FPS revelations?
It turns out that bith the V2 and V3 prototypes are only running at 75hz, and the laptop they use (with a 1080 inside) struggles to maintain frame rate.
Brainwarp is not active on the prototype yet, so the outcome could resolve itself. At this time though, it looks like the headset needs a beast of a system.
4096x2557 is their current Steam VR internal render.
Yeah I heard about it. I am using a laptop, so there’s no way I can upgrade my gpu. If it turns out that my laptop won’t be able to handle it, I will cancel my pledge. But I would like pimax to respond first before I make any decisions. It’s just been really frustrating to keep asking the last couple of days without them responding. You and Helios, on the other hand, have been very helpful, and I really appreciate it
Alot will vary from title to title. With 1070 being min rec 75 to 90 is possible but really intensive games may lean towards 75 while others that are less demanding are likely to hit 90 once hardware & firmware are worked out.
If you are right, I won’t have to cancel my pledge. But this link Hands-on: PiMAX's 8K Headset Proves that High FOV VR is Coming – Road to VR seems to suggest that the minimum recommended should be dual 1070s or single 1080. Here’s the quote:
Essentially interlacing frames reduces the load so higher hz is possible. They say in this article that the minimum requirement is dual 1070’s or a single 1080. This means that if the headset itself is struggling, your gpu can take some of the load. It’s not all gpu based, but it definitely helps. I assume pimax will want 90hz and 4k per eye (for both eyes) normally, so Brainwarp is really a backup plan.
Still waiting for @Matthew.Xu @PimaxVR or @deletedpimaxrep1 to respond and confirm
Just keep in mind once hardware is debugged & brainwarp enabled you will be able to double perceived frames.
I will be testing on an r9 390 (and its not rec min) and I am confident will yeild good results.
Since te 4k model worked well on 2x7950
