It seems like the hardware is complete tbh, but the software is where the real work is. Iâm surprised they got to try the controllers at all tbh. Considering the controllers are working well enough now with the Crystal, I would hope that translates over to the portal.
I think right now people should just be looking at it as a handheld device and with VR as a bonus down the line. The VR aspect clearly isnât ready but as a handheld device (especially for emulation) it seems great and for 299 is actually really compelling for that alone.
The VR software definitely needs a lot of work though, no doubt.
who knows? theyâve only just asked for crystal testers, saying theyâll be chosen this month. so are they going to be shipping out crystals whilst they are still being tested? doesnât add up to meâŚbut i donât care so much. i do believe theyâll ship within a couple of months. iâm 99% buying 1. big relief feedback on the controllers has been mostly positive recently. iâm not bothered about auto-ipd. not seeing wifi demonstrated is the only question mark i have on it now.

They said, when they announced the tester thing last month, that the testers would be among the first customers. I think a lot of people assume that the testers are getting a free/borrowed crystal shipped out but that isnât the case. Itâs been say that testers might get a lighthouse sleeve, and perhaps other sleeves, for free/early.
They probably should have made it clearer as Iâm guessing they will have got absolutely bombarded with testing applications from people that have no intention of actually buying a crystal, or even have one pre-ordered. That said I think the questions asked in the form allow them to filter those folks out quite easily.
So my point is that yes, they will be shipping them while they are being tested but this is a form of additional testing. To get dedicated and passionate users to be able to work closer with the team to give feedback rapidly and consistently. Itâs a good idea but I wouldnât mistake it as that being the entirety of testing for the crystal, of course they have been testing it themselves and with paid testers also (I know they have paid testers for the older products so assume itâs the same here).

So the first 30 people who receive the unit will actually be beta testers. And for the risk that they are taking, buying a potentially unfinished product, they get rewarded with some goodies. Interesting concept
They should have communicated this very clearly though

In the video it was stated 2 lenses included. Isnât that 2 pairs the 42 and 35?
When does the reservation period end? Is it now extended to the end of January?

Too bad we are still getting reports of optical issue with the crystal. Brady and a few others have commented on it.
The sh team samples used the roadshow lenses and not the new ones that solved the issue. Only a couple of the sample had the new ones. It was surprising they overlooked that.

This comment seems to be assuming that these testers are going to be testing basic Crystal PCVR functionality, but it would make more sense for them to be testing future features that arenât being released yet such as standalone mode.

So if first batches comes to EU and US from China, are they charged with any kind of customs and taxes?
