I got my eye tracking module today and it says to remove the sponge mask. Well I removed the foam and the face cowling. But I don’t see any USB C port that the eye tracking is supposed to plug into.
Do I need to remove the fabric too? I can’t seem to pull it off. It’s stuck on there. Also where is that eye tracking installation video? I can’t find it anymore.
Okay so I’ve figured out how to install it and calibration worked just fine. I have the eye tracking module plugged into the 8KX and it seems to only be running at 30fps.
I don’t notice any performance improvement at all in Pavlov for example. I’ll need to buy the longer usb 3.0 cable and plug it into my PC.
The one recommended by Pimax is not available on Amazon Canada, so there are many alternatives. As long as it’s an Oculus Quest link cable it should be fine, right? @PimaxQuorra
No I got the housing sorted out. I easily cut the plastic piece out with scissors. I don’t know why people complain about weak magnets. Once the face cowling and foam is installed on top of the eye tracking, they hold in place pretty well.
Do I need to enabled Fixed Foveated Rendering for the Dynamic Foveated Rendering of eye tracking to work? Because so far I’m seeing no performance improvements. Not sure its even doing anything even though the calibration was successful. Maybe 120Hz will finally show the improvement?
I’ve just installed my eye tracker today as well, it’s pretty straight forward.
Didn’t need any tape, only had to clip the metal rings onto the lens and put the eye tracker on, and cutting the comfort kit with scissors was a 2minute job at most. the magnet was ok, eye tracker doesnt come off like many have said they would, I wonder if ppl had issues, did not install the cowling back properly or something, it is very steady and no chance coming off.
Calibrating was unsuccessful until I pad out the foam to be thicker and more distance from the lens, and then calibrated fine, and tracks the eyes fine as well.
I’ve spent days trying to sort out the tiny sweet spot problem of 8kx and to be honest I was a bit disappointed with how tiny and hard to use the 8kx is, that is, until I padded out the foam to install the eye tracker, oh boy the 8kx, it was clear, and glare greatly reduced, no longer 1 eye sharp and the other not, and no longer I needed to readjust the 8kx everytime I put it on.
It’s like this transformed from an ugly beast into a work of art.
Pimax if you are reading this, you should have sent out 2 foams, and there would have been much less disappointed customers.
I installed my eye tracker and installation and calibration was fine but damn DFR and 30hz is way too slow. I saw everytime I moved my eyes the pixel area. I really hope they can improve it. Since im using the 8k X and it has USB 3.0. The games do benefit like with FFR so there is no difference with that. Try Spiderman far from home with and without FFR
That’s weird. With my eye tracking module at 30Hz, I don’t notice any change in the image or performance of games like Pavlov. Maybe the eye tracking is not working or I need to change a setting? Also after eye tracking was installed Pimax Experience fails to launch games.
Reminds me I have the usb cable someone recommended on the forum waiting for me to pick up, I’ll do that tomorrow and check if it works with the headtracking.
in amcap.
I need to set “capture > set frame rate > use frame rate” higher otherwise it limits capture rate to 60 ish in the two higher resolutions. (i just set it at 480 to make sure i wasn’t capped)
I do not have an rtx card yet so can’t test with dfr.
The first 5 meter cable is pretty heavy and it does have an input for a 5v power supply but i did not need to use that. the last three meter is a more normal (but still thickish) usb cable which one could replace with another cable if the bend plug at the business end annoys them.
PiTool tells You if aSeeVR isn’t running (and let’s You start it directly from the Status screen) so I hope that’s all it needs. If not, they should probably check amcap too (unless it’s the same?)…
Amcap is just a utility program that will leg you see some of the stats of the camera in the ET and capture camera recordings. I should not normally be running. there’s a couple of other services under the aSeeVR umbrella for that.
We use it to see what kind of sampling rate we can actually get from the eyetracker.
for roomscale gaming with the Eye-Tracker: Am I supposed to have ANOTHER wire going from headset to the PC? I got the Eye-Tracker as well, but haven’t opened it yet.
When I bought the Eye-Tracker, it was said that it gets hooked to the 8KX’ USB port.
