Vive trackers support

Pimax 8K fully supports Vive trackers? Will it work with no problems like on Vive?

Interesting question. I have a tracker too and would assume that it works because both are steamvr devices.

But since I read in some other thread that the developer versions of the valve knuckles don’t work I am not sure anymore.

This is just speculation, but I would doubt vive trackers work since everything goes through PiTool…

I haven’t tracker yet. Want to buy. I have Pimax 8K. And Vive’s controllers and lighthouses.

Tried the HTC Vive Trackers some time ago with the 8K & SteamVR recognized and used them without issue.

The trackers, when paired via the USB domgle rather than the watchman board, should appear no different to SteamVR than when using any other HMD. I got mine delivered yesterday, will give them a whirl over the weekend.

What is the USB dongle and what is the watchman board? Usb dongle packed together with vive tracker if I’ll buy here?

The trackers come packed with a small USB dongle that handles the wireless USB communication between tracker and PC.

The watchman board is a module in SteamVR tracking based HMDs that handles the wireless USB communication between controllers and PC via the HMD. AFAIK only two devices can be connected via the watchman board, so if you don’t use controllers you can directly pair up to two trackers with the HMD.

@EarlyBackers

I believe lighthouses & controllers connect within pitool & trackers in steamvr.

@VoodooDE i believe can answer this one with certainty. :beers::sunglasses::+1::sparkles:

Yes Vive Tracker work without problems on the Pimax!

Fit It - Full Body Tracking mit der Pimax 8K (3x Vive Tracker) [SteamVR][Virtual Reality] - YouTube

The Vive trackers connect and track fine with the Pimax 8K for me - the only complaints I have are that the trackers (and HMD) will turn themselves off after a few minutes of inactivity which wasn’t an issue when using the Vive (SteamVR’s config is already set to an extremely long timeout, but Pimax’s drivers don’t respect those preferences), and the in-game model of the Vive trackers appear as base stations instead of the expected tracker model.

@deletedpimaxrep1 @anon74848233 @Matthew.Xu Please update the Vive tracker model that is displayed in SteamVR and fix the issue with the HMD and controller/tracker inactivity timeout setting in SteamVR being ignored.

Check tge steamvr settings file, there maybe a setting you can edit specific to the tracking puck

will ONE single Vive tracker work with the Pimax 5k ? Do I need more to track controllers?

By “tracker”, I assume you mean light-house / base-station.

One will work, but that situation is really intended for seated (cockpit) games. I think 1 will work for tracking controllers, BUT whenever a controller is blocked from light-house view (by your body or other obstacle) you will lose tracking. Therefore TWO are recommended when using controllers.

So let me get this straight:

If you have have a Pimax HMD (8k or 5k+), you just need the lighthouse emitters (one or more) and the vive controller (one or more) to use it normally ?

No linkbox or Vive HMD needed?

I mean, there is a steam wireless receiver inside the Pimax HMD ?

There are SteamVR sensors inside the headset.

Basestations emit infrared light and the headset uses that to track it’s location.

No linkbox or Vive needed, no.

Great to know ! I was afraid that i would need even more sensors.
