Issue Title: Stutter
Description: Stutter in pitools newer than 144 (= 180, 197, 245)

HMD Model: 5K+
First 3 Numbers Serial: 202
Pitool Version: 245 (also 197, 180)
HMD Firmware: 255
Tracking: 2x Lighthouse v1.0

System Info

  • Windows Version: 10 Home (1909 build 18363.535)
  • CPU: 8700K
  • RAM: 16GB 3800MHz
  • Motherboard: AsRock extreme 4 z370
  • GPU Model: GeForce 2080Ti
  • GPU Driver: 441.66 WHQL
  • SteamVR Version: not beta (1.9.13)
  • Oculus Version: none
I don’t use any additional software for LED control.
I have tried changing USB ports.
I tried changing CPU affinity with Process Lasso.
I don’t use Smart Smoothing and FFR.

There is visible stutter in image displayed in HMD panels.
The stutter is very annoying, distracting. Every pitool after 144 has the stutter. It is game independent, the stutter is visible even in the basic play space in steamvr, when you start steamvr and there are the circles on the floor and ceiling. It is also visible in pimax home (the starter pimax screen).
There are many posts about this in threads about pitools 180, 197.
It seems that it started after pimax changed something about the gpu utilization bug in pitool.

@Alex.liu @PimaxVR @PimaxUSA @Matthew.Xu @Konger

What is pimax doing to fix the stuttering ?
When is this going to be fixed ?

we will add a slider control the gpu useage to solve this issue.

I don’t use additional software for LED control.

I optimized CPU affinity with Prio as well, but it did not help.
I don’t use Smart Smoothing or FFR.

HMD Model: 5K+

HMD Firmware: 255
Tracking: 1x Lighthouse v1.0

System Info

  • Windows Version: 10 Pro (1809 build 17763.914)

Did a clean install of Pitool 245 (uninstalled old version, rebooted, deleted Pimax folders under C:\Users\user\AppData\Local, LocalLow, Roaming and C:\ProgramData, and installed new version).

Not using any RGP LED control software. Have tried changing USB ports. Tried changing CPU affinity but this does not help. Not using Smart Smoothing or FFR.

There is visible stutter seen in games, Steam VR test screen, the Pimax home planet scene etc. The stutter is very annoying, distracting. Every pitool after 144 has the stutter.

The stutter is visible in all refresh rate modes eg. 90Hz, 72Hz and 64Hz (currently no 120Hz available for the 5K+ S/N 202* owners ).

I have two pcs that exhibit this issue so I’ll list both.

System Info 1

  • Windows Version: 10 Pro
  • CPU: Ryzen 5 1600
  • RAM: 16 GB 2666MHz
  • Motherboard: Asus prime A320I

System Info 2

  • GPU Driver: 441.66 WHQL (always used the latest NVIDIA WHQL drivers)
  • SteamVR Version: not beta (1.9.15)
  • Oculus Version: latest oculus version

The issue occurs on build 1 - which is a brand new pc and nvme ssd. No previous pitool installations, no RGB software (it is a mini itx build after all).

I have had the issue on my primary PC, build 2, ever since i updated beyond .132. The stutter displays itself almost as a tracking anomaly, or a vsync issue.

Issue Title: Stutter
Description: Stutter in pitools newer than 144 (= 180, 197, 245)
Pitool Version: 254_alpha
HMD Firmware: 262

GPU Driver: 442.01

  1. Thank you for the new pitool. I installed both new pitool 254_alpha and firmware 262.
  2. Unfortunately for me the stutter is still there. It is a bit better than before, but it still stutters. (but it helped to some other people)
  3. I tried Pimax Home and SteamVR starter space = stutter
  4. I tried disabling lighthouse tracking, but it did not help = It stutters even with the internal 3DOF. (I thought lighthouse tracking could cause the stutter)
  5. After installing pitool 144 the stutter is gone again (keeping the new firmware 262)

Issue Title: Stutter
Description:
Random judder in-game and SteamVR Home, happens in some games/apps but not in others. RacketNX doesn’t have stutters, loading steamvr environment doesn’t have judder, but steamvr home and Monet / Mona Lisa experiences from Viveport had heavy stutters. Looks like a degrading performance problem, at first they are few and far in between, but start to grow until they happen nearly every second.
Aura Sync Software not installed.

Issue Title: Stutter
Description:
Following up to say that the alpha version does not eliminate stutter issues for me. Surprisingly, they seemed potentially even worse. I am glad Pimax are formally addressing this but I thought it would be useful to post a follow up. Nearly every 3-5 seconds the entire vision in the hmd jumps around. This problem gets worse with reprojection - in apps that run at capped framerate easily the stuttering is less severe.

Have had stuttering since day one, even got a new headset as RMA. Still the same problem. Tried many different PiTool versions. Tried all the tricks (different usb port, covering the window, even shut down my RGB softwares…)
Does it in every game, I tried Arizona sunshine (see vid below), Eleven table tennis and beat saber, does it simply in steamVR home too.

Issue Title: Stutter
Description:
Stutter/judder in-game and SteamVR Home. I don’t believe I’ve found a game where it doesn’t happen for me. It does not seem to be dependent on Refresh Rate as it does it no matter what rate I set it to.
It is only during slow horizontal rotation. If I move my head up and down only, then it does not happen. If I move my hide side to side quickly then it does not happen. If I move my head slowly side to side then it happens every 15 seconds or so on average. Pitool 144 is the last version to not have stutter for me. Recent versions of Pitool to seem to be better than the ones that were released right after 144. MSI Afterburner is installed. No RGB controller software is installed.

HMD Model: 5k+
First 3 Numbers Serial: 203
Pitool Version: 254 alpha
