Using the 8k without a vive base station

I don’t need room tracking and i wonder how the head tracking works if i have no vive base station.
Does it works like the Pimax 4K with gyro?

You will require at least one Lighthouse Vive base tracker. Just add 75 Bucks at checkout.

Ok thanks.

Yeah. If you want to lean then like vive you will need 1. The price is great compared to buying vive/valve base stations.

Hey slipstream

What you mean ? I think you don’t need base tracker unless you want to lean or move around.
If you only sit, then base station would be useless, right ? Am I wrong ? Because I just pledged for a headset, should I add money for the station ?

And by the way, @Heliosurge, if I pledged for no reward (B1 isue) and I want to add base station and controllers and hand module, i introduce the right amount of money, but how will the guys know what to deliver ? I only introduced an amount of dollars, no details about what and why.

Will they do the survey after pledge period ends? What if I do mistakes , for example, didnt added price for transport. Wouldn\t it be too late ?

Do i worry too much ? Well, I think I should, we all know why.

Okay

With base station your right its not entirely needed unless you want to lean. Now to give you a scenario. Your playing a game & would like to look over your shoulder. Without the base station you will likely only see the back rest of your seat a it doesn’t know you leaned somewhat to see over your shoulder. Or you simply want a closer look at the dashboard. Hence where 1 base station is good to have 4 seated experience.

Your 2nd question. At the end of the kickstarter there will be a survey done to get details like extra money towards peripherals like hand tracking, base stations & controllers etc.

Holly shit Heliosurge, you just described what happens to me when I play DCS and look who is chasing me. I always see the texture of my seat.
Good point.
Now the second point. I already have leap motion (and Nolo VR ). Is the hand tracking module exactly the same hardware, or is something new ? I noticed from videos that hands models are exactly from leap motion software, but the device is different, made for pimax.

Should I upgrade to this module or live whit what I have.

As for the hand module not sure. From my understanding the hand tracking module might be based on version 2. As from what i heard the hand module has a wider fov so to speak at least vs leap v1.0

With having possibly v1.0 are you satisfied with its performance?

2b fair the seated scenario was mentioned b4 by another user quite sometime ago. :beers::smirk::+1::sparkles:

Hey Heliosurge,

I have a question about base stations.
In HTC Vive, the bsae stations communicate directly with the headset, not with the link box or PC, i think.

If I have a HTC Vive base station and nothing else, could it cooperate with Pimax 8K headset for positional tracking ?

I mean, is the base station from Pimax 100% compatible with HTC vive’s stations without link box ?

Yes, you can use your Vive basestations for pimax.

Where did this $75 + $10 shipping figure for a Pimax Lighthouse base station come from? I haven’t seen it around except in other comments from other backers. Is there an official comment on this?

It’s on the main campaign page, you will have to scroll down a lot to find it.

@brian91292 - ah excellent, thanks! I upped my pledge to $614 then ($529 + $85) I guess they will send a survey when the kickstarter is done.

Kind of nervous though, I don’t want to delay getting the headset… I could just as easily buy a Vive tracker off the net without complicating the Kickstarter pledge, although it’s pricier. Does anyone know if they’d have these base stations ready to ship with the headsets? If it’s going to add a month or two to the delivery date I’d rather buy a Vive station separately. @PimaxVR, what do you reckon? Will we get the headsets quicker if we buy base stations elsewhere?

I can’t say for sure in terms of connecting to headset in the idea of wireless like a controller.

In my experience @ Immersed with the setup the 2 lighthouses need to “see each other” or use a link cable so they identify each other.

There is a steam help topic & others on explaining setting them up.

The headset communicates with the pc with info from the headset in relation to the lasers from the lighthouses.

I know @SweViver would know more on specifics. The wireless connection is likely the same one used for controllers & i think as the wireless is not implemented yet as mentioned about controllers being wired; that the base station wireless primary purpose might be to shut the lighthouses off when headset not active. Might also be used to help identify lighthouses if using 6?

This is where MS MR headsets will be appealing to folks who are not tech savy.

In the same idea… How far compatible is it?

Yes, it seems compatible with one Vive’s lighthouse to achieve 360° (standing only)

We know for sure we’ll have full positionnal tracking (aka room scale) with their Pi-tracking achieved with their new lighthouses v2 (not Vive’s lighthouses).

But do we know if we’ll be able to do room scale achieved with 2 “old” Vive’s lighthouses via SteamVR?

Pimax doesn’t have their own lighthouse implementation, it’s Valves SteamVR tech.

Functionally they will work the same, except that you cannot track 1.0 devices (such as Vive controllers) with the new 2.0 lighthouses.

The wireless connection for controllers is not used to communicate with the lighthouses, the controllers totally hammers that space with data (to the point it will affect other 2.4 Ghz devices) so I doubt there is any room to have any other device connected.

The breakout box communicates with the base stations to turn them on/off, I don’t think Pimax will support this behavior until that is delivered though.

Cool makes sense with the laser sensors. Thanks for pointing this out. :beers::sunglasses::+1::sparkles:

Hopefully the VIVE breakout box will still be able to control the power of the base stations without a headset actually connected to it, I’m pretty sure it should work.

Are you saying Pimax offers lighthouses built by Valve?
Is there an official source for that?
