Looks like they are partnered with Valve, so its prob the same. Still not sure who manufactures them, though.
No, they could very well be manufactured by pimax, they just won’t have their own implementation of lighthouse.
I see now. The word “implementation” doesn’t mean what you think it does.
If Pimax manufactured lighthouses, that would be their own implementation, no matter what specification it is based on.
If it is bluetooth it might be possible to use bluetooth enabled pc to connect & be controlled by piplay. Just need PiMax’s basestations to have bluetooth.
Valve’s Lighthouse have a reference design to allow manufacturer’s to create their own & make their own changes to the design.
Grfx cards are made this way. Amd & nvidia release reference designs. Some will stick to the reference while others will change it. (optimise & improve features. Ie gigabyte one of their highlights dual bios)
Hallo to all, this is my first post on Pimax forum. I am thinking about backing 8K version but I need to know for sure one think. I will only use the VR headset for racing and flying simulators. So no extra accessory needed for me. But I am still not sure if I need a base station. I was thinking, that if Pimax VR has built in inside out tracking, I really do not need a base station. How is it then? Would it be possible to turn around the cockpit and move closer to the dashboard of a car and plane without base station?
@Ricrd You need at least one base station for accurate tracking otherwise it will drift picture
99% of my time in vr is spent in Eite or Pcars, what you might call a seated game.
VR is utterly pointless without positional tracking, IT IS THE FEATURE YOU NEED THE MOST.
So yes, he should get a tracker.
But why utterly or most needed? Do you constantly move your position in cockpits ? Seated games especially in cockpit kind of seated games does not in my opinion depends so much on head/position movements .
I am 99% user of DCS, IL-2 and Elite Dangerous, and I most of the time stay still for aiming purposes, movements are the enemy of a good aiming habit.
Sure I ordered a basestation, just for the sake of technology.
I tell you what is uterly or MOST NEDDED in my case: a tm warthog joystick. This single one worth two or three base stations, as price or/and as usefulness.
OK. SO base station is needed. And according to what you say, 1 base is enough…
One base station will be well enough for seated.
I think I used the word implementation correctly in this context, but regardless, my post was about Pimax designing their own base stations and the question was if it was possible that those would not be compatible with lighthouse. This is impossible since Valve provides specifications and they are backwards compatible.
You can’t make a compatible headset and then proceed to make the base stations incompatible.
Were there any vr headset`s before? No way to ensure good positioning of the helmet without additional stations. Picture will float away. You can of course do without the station, to check for yourself what it’s like to drift on the screen, maybe you’ll like it
Truth you don’t need it for sim games. However if your doing a shoulder check without one you are likely going to look at the headrest instead of behind you. This is due to not having tracked head position; no lean just rotate.
We already use it without positional tracking in games on the 4k model. The issue without positional head tracking affects things like shoulder checks. Not an absolute need; but agreed better for immersion & likely prefered once folks realize how much better it can make gameplay feel.
The pimax 8k is a high end headset. It’s not that cheap. IMHO, it would be a terrible waste using it without positional tracking…
