That"s a good point & hopefully the team can address this. With the headsets in general being shipped at month’s end. I would think pimax would give folks a week prior to make a choice that have low backer numbers.
Folks I reccommend everyone liking @zayd post to be able to have a wider Tester pool to make an informed choice.
Well, I’m pretty sure we got a @Digital , and a @Neoskynet . It could get really interesting when one of them finds out he’s himself from the future. And his dad, lol.
This has been roller coaster ride for all of us ! Of course I want posters pushing for answers on the hard questions from Pimax themselves…it adds levity which is important! … sometimes it feels heavy handed…does that make sense?
Its surprisingly easy to make photos through the lenses, mainly because of the lenses’ size not that easy to make through the lens videos though lol. Oh well, maybe if I had a super super camera, which I dont…
Sweviver: Hello. I wonder how as a VR content producer you can film inside a VR headset to show comparisons of different screen qualities (I’m not suggesting you should by the way as I know you’re super busy).
One post I think I remember reading a while back, although it might have been in jest, was someone suggesting using a mannequin head (polystyrene?) and placing video cameras inside the eye sockets and then putting the HMD strap over the mannequin’s head and filming that way.
Has anyone ever done that? I wonder if it would give the best view possible to show off the screen on a 2D flat screen we watch on Youtube etc?
Just an idea, sorry if it sounds impossible, it may well be.
Oh btw. About being biased. Let me just add my 2 cents.
My review will not be a personal conclusion aka “is this a winner or a loser” video. Im not here to judge whenever 8K or 5K+ are great or not. Thats up to you to decide.
I will give you FACTS. Thats facts based upon 3 months of intensive testing. Facts showing you how it works, how it performs, how it compares to others, whats the pros and cons and what you can expect upon release. All IN DEPTH.
I will go through more or less everything about this headset step by step. You will know everything about it. At least thats my goal. If you want to see personal opinions about 8K and 5K+ then look elsewhere. I think facts and proof says more than any individual personal opinion. The Berlin meetup was a good example.
There will be one review. 8K and 5K+ are very similar so there is no need to make separate review videos unless you are money hungry and go for the YouTube views…lol…
Of course there will be dozens of follow up videos going even deeper into topics, after the review, but thats another story.
Maybe I have taken this way over my head but I have a week to go so I really hope I will make it. Currently Im spending 18 hours a day on this since Tuesday (Im not joking…)
So call me biased or whatever. You already know that I like these headsets. You already know that I think its the best HMDs on the market. So no surprise there.
But on the other hand, some things might suprise you anyway. At least it surprised me!
How I record? Handheld. But with extra protectio to not scratch anything. I like doing it the primitive way. Its time consuming but on the other hand I dont have time looking for fancy solutions.
One thing is for sure. There will be lots of footage. You will hardly see my bald ugly head during the whole show lol. Dont worry!
I have never used a 4K, but really hope that these HMDs are more than a little better then the Gen 1 units. I need an order of magnitude better or more. I found the resolution of my Rift so poor that I had given up using it months ago. I found it no better than the DK2 and actually found the lenses to be worse than DK2. The extra FOV on these sounds great, but that’s not why I quit VR. It was the lack of clarity / resolution. To me they were not ready for the general public.
I guess my problem is that I’m not really a gamer, I’m just a VR fan. The Gen 1 resolution / clarity may have been acceptable for games, but it sucks, and sucks big time for immersive experiences. It’s no fun to take a virtual vacation to explore the great pyramids when everything looks like the Mario Brothers, or Donkey Kong through fogged glasses!
Then you’re probably in for some disappointment. All indications are that the 5K+ and 8K will be the best consumer VR headsets you can buy right now, but I doubt either is 10x better (although the 8KX might be).
Maybe stop calling it a review then and more of an analysis. Reviews by their very nature are supposed to be the opinion of the author based on his or her experience in the field. From the sounds of it you are going to do a Digital Foundry style video. That’s great but I still think many people will want to hear your final verdict as to which one you would choose. Maybe do a seperate review.
