This is what i thought would be the case given delay between sweviver getting his and mrtv/voodoo. and we had an almost identical fit of hysteria before berlin on that issue.
In some parallel universe we are going to get to the 16th without another forum wide panic attack but i highly doubt we are living anywhere next to that universe. I’m glad this at least has been put to bed.
IMHO the whole discussion is not about what is better or worse.
It’s simply because of there are people who is happy with 8K as it is (considering there’s a large number of people who tested different prototypes since 2017 and M2 in Berlin and all of them agreed that 8K is playable to some extent) and don’t really worry about future, and there are people who’s main concern is that in a few months after 8K Kickstarter release Pimax may release 8K+ without most of the problems that some people been reporting, and they will end up with “obsolete” or “inferior” headset in a very short period of time (this assumption can be based on some people saying that the problems can be easily fixed, new Nvidia cards and interface, Pimax been pushed to release something by us and their business parteners, market pressure, etc).
I don’t know what do I prefer personally. I want headset ASAP, but I don’t want the other option either. But it’s life.
For the avoidance of doubt I do have 4K. I used it twice and spent about a month trying to reduce ghosting. I know for some people ghosting is no problem, for me it’s a deal breaker.
I’m with you. I enjoy VR for the tech and immersion. I don’t really play games but I do have a sweet gaming rig and buy good looking games just for seeing how beautiful it all looks today. Photorealism is what makes me gawk. And VR is just another new tech I love because we can do it now with consumer grade stuff. I love being in the middle of development of it and I find it super interesting to experience my brain accepting the reality of a VR world. Games are a bonus to me but not essential.
This is why I got into VR with a comparitively cheap Pimax 4K. It was all about the pixel count. Because SDE should not exist in a VR headset. This is the beginning of VR so better screens will come so I skipped 6dof and just went with the better screen in the 4K.
It would be great if one of the testers had a really good camera to take exact comparison photos through the lenses (with spacers e.g. ear sticks and hot glue, same scene, same lens distance etc). Even my Noka n8 mobile phone camera can take very sharp photos through the lens (4000x3000).

Screens will improve for sure. I put note 9 into gearvr today the color and screen door is already better than vive. Color by a good margin.
Indeed the interesting thing is yes comparing the pimax headsets as they have been to the Vive Pro is in truth a 1st gen headset. And we know both Vive Pro & Odyssy is considerably better than Rift & OG Vive. Even the Oculus Go is better on many things than many things of Rift & OG Vive.
So yes compared to Gen1 headsets (since we don’t have any consumer Gen2 headsets; save Pimax) of course it’s better. Wide FoV & better Resolution & reduced to minimal sde. No real surprise.

hot glue not to connect camera or headset :D, but only to make a ring with 3 legs like a tripod. Ring for taking the camera lens and the 3 cotton legs to be able to put on the lenses without scratches.
Full approval asonkin65, I also think it is natural if the overall result of a tested product also leads to enthusiasm.

Good enough for many uses. It doesn’t show the subpixel pattern, but it does show that it isn’t missing a third of them since we can distinguish pixels and each shows expected colour. Perfect! When the NDA is up, please post a similar pic of the “target text” in Elite Dangerous (just select a planet or other target and zoom in on the center), for the 5K+ and 8K. This will answer a lot of questions about the display quality, and not just for E.D.

My doom prediction.
Sweviver, MRTV & Voodoo do not give the Pimax 8 or 5K+ the green light. The reviews, whilst positive are less favourable than what people are expecting. The caveats make for even more head scratching. Sweviver has already hinted about some surprises in the same discussion about his potential bias. Well the only thing I can imagine that to mean is, he won’t be as glowing as some expect. MRTV makes no bones about his general sentiment either and Voodoo is just a dark horse but I assume will follow suit.
