Update#31 - 2 days countdown - M2 in-depth reviews are coming up from mid-Sep (Discussion)

i would say berlin shows they can ship a device that at the very least anyone who is not coming from a 4k will be satisfied with, which would also be the vast majority of future consumers.

some 4k owners , much like f4 owners/testers may find it to be a drop in sde minimisation, and if that is a dealbreaker for them then they may be disappointed.

I am talking basicly about 5k plus here . Visuals is not only SDE( which is suprisingly fantastic btw ) but also distance sharpness , zero godrays, sweetspot, lenses clarity…

but do you own/ have tried a 4k? because that seems to be the fundamental gulf between this group and all of us. these are old guard pimax people.

i think we will all be thrilled.

but if they came from something even better sde wise of course they will be disappointed.

Do you own a Pimax 4k?

Why on Earth should i do this if i haven’t before? If i am happy with my 5k+ or 8K why should i compare it to an otherwise inferior device that just does a little better in 1 aspect.

I think fundamentally, that is what this is coming down to. Most people who backed, wanted wide fov headset better than vive oculus etc.

old guard pimax people wanted and expected a pimax 4k but wider. and they are fighting tooth and nail to get it because they feel that anything less is not living up to expectation.

I am happy with what we are getting, but at the very least i can understand their perspective.

You really seem to miss my point here. The point here is that the 8k could have been much better.

I have it on my head more less the same amount of time like 5k. And I didnt like it. Not for gaming, meybe for movies which btw spanish ppl love.

Well well well , It seems that before the backer meeting the BLACK KNIGHTS where winning with their shiney armor and their sharpened swords. But it now looks like the black knights have let their swords go blunt and their armor has gone rusty , now the White Knights have got the advantage and the swords have been sharpened, and polished armor,Who give a shit, its cheaper than my other option which would be the Vive pro, and its definitely better then what I have… STARVR, yeh like I have the money for that!!..
I am only joking by the way,or am I
PS: Just remember we are getting this cheaper than retail.

I agree also…we didn’t see the nda that they signed…probably a load of small print covering every eventuality

No disagreements there. Seems to me even if there was a more functional upscaling going on with the 4k, there was only one panel. The reviews (what I saw anyway) indicate the bump in rez was really the only thing the 4k had going for it.

My understanding re the 8k is that we can expect bigger dividends with progressively improved GPU’s. The perceived similarities with the 5k+ at this point are largely a function of current tech. Plus I am sure software will grow into the 8k’s shoes as well.

Makes sense, enough super sampling and upscaling or no it’ll look pretty damn sharp.

Not that I care, I backed 8kx…

Yes I know I’m an arsehole.

I own a 4k, 4k BE, Vive, and seversl older headsets. The only things the 4k lacked wss wide fov, and lack of decent tracking. If the 8k fulls those gaps i will be very happy.

So all the people that went to the Berlin meet are blind, stupid or Pimax fanboys I presume?

This is an interesting viewpoint, and not one I’d really considered (seeing as I was barely aware of Pimax 4k before the kickstarter). I believe there have been a few 4k owners who went to Berlin and I believe most of them said the SDE was better on the 8k? I think there was one who said it was worse and maybe a couple who were underwhelmed with the improvement?

For me (coming from the Vive), my personal disaster threshold is getting the new headset and wishing I’d just bought a Vive Pro, and based on the Berlin impressions, it’s looking like I might be ok in that respect. That may feel like a low bar for some, but what other upgrade can I make? Pimax are targeting a niche (Large FOV, Low SDE, roomscale) within a niche (VR). While it seems like many backed because of the promised potential of this device, my main reason for backing (as opposed to waiting), was that it doesn’t seem like any other company was keen to push for higher end VR for consumers. If Pimax didn’t do it, who would? How long would we have to wait? StarVR looks like they may do it, but we still don’t know how crazy expensive it’ll be.

You presume wrong. Read what @destraudo said, he understands it.

In the interests of serving the broadest range of backers particularly old guard pimax users with their reviews, would it be possible for @SweViver @mixedrealityTV and @VoodooDE to beg borrow or steal a pimax 4k just to have as a sde comparison point.

for a lot of people the sde on 5k might be a reasonable compromise but for old guard 8k would be wanted at very least in some circumstances.

Definition of biased: ā€œunfairly prejudiced for or against someone or something.ā€

To call @SweViver biased is clear and simple defamation, sjefdeklerk; @deletedpimaxrep1 I would like a public apology from this individual or to ban this guy please.

why you talking only about SDE - I’m little bit tired expaining that, SDE is not everything in terms of geting nice picture in hmd. For gaming more important is sharpness and input resolutions…
that is why I’m changing my pledge for 5k plus and leap montion accessory.
