Yea, Id love to use my G2 + Creative form strap for the VR3…man that G2 strap solution is so nice the way you can easily flip it up and off and your adjustments stay relatively the same.
This whole loosening, tightening, adjusting geometry buttons of the VR3 sucks! I dont like it at all.
Indeed, as this is a completely free community for users to have discussion on everything related to VR, but will make sure the Pimax employee to obey the rules and correct their behaviours.
But we do hope, this will be a peace and nice discussion without any insult between each other. As these 2 years weren’t good enough for all of us, the pandemic is still happening out there, why don’t we just have some good talk?
But even with all the mods it cant deliver solid pcvr experience. PCVR headsets due to performance limitation work way better and without lowering graphics, IMO index nowadays is best what can be found for all kind of pcvr experiance and some other hmds like 8kx for sims, but its heavy - das + 300gramms CW to balance it is too heavy, above 1kg, default strap wo CW not comfortable for me but i use it as its lighter.
Anyway you might like Q2 for ease of use and standalone apps like echo vr
I always liked my Index. But the SDE just feels extremely outdated now. Personally I would never be able to go back to that. But it’s a finely engineered piece of hardware, I agree
@twack3r has anyone tried OpenFSR yet? With the radius foveate option might be able to get those focus displays running. And of course gain some performance while waiting on driver to mature.
Yes, some of us began experimenting with the fsr hack over weekend. I found my FPS jumped from 41 to 59 in DCS single player experience. I plan to push this even further, the clarity is getting unbelievably beautiful. Think @twack3r was experimenting with some racing title.
I have dialed in the best ACC picture I have ever seen at a rock stable 82fps (at this point the CPU is the limiting factor) at 0.70 and a radius (kind of like foveated rendering) of 0.5. It’s visually super close to non-upsampled and an uplift of more than 20fps!
Next step is a native res of 6Kx6K to get the focus screens to turn on and a super aggressive Upsampling setting. It’ll be a trade off but it’s an exciting mod for sure!
Yeah, this fsr hack is just incredible. I pushed varjo base software to 150% and steam vr to 200% showing rendering res in steam of 6108 x 5768. Still couldn’t discern focus screen, so either it was on without my knowing or I wasn’t pushing hard enough but the clarity is indescribable. I could read every serial and us patent number inside the cockpit, actually much better than my vision irl, this would require squinting through my spectacles. At this level game was running at 30fps so a little uncomfortable. However reducing steam vr to 100% showing 4320 x 4080 render res gave a very playable 50 fps and clarity was at same level. No longer feel that 4090 is required to fully enjoy this headset.
I just got home from work…fired up the VR rig and got this message.
My headset was hot like it turned itself on without the fan and sat…lord knows how long it was sitting like that…reset my computer and the HMDs fan ramped up pretty loud to cool it down…now it lets me login to vargo base…fun times…in the future looks like im turning off the power to the headset when im not around.
First hard result: focus screens activate at 150%VB and 204% SteamVRSS so the threshold target resolution is 6168x5824 PER EYE. In other words this is 12.336x5824 or 71.8 megapixels! For perspective, that is 178% of native 8K resolution.
Bitchin. Glad it worked. @mixedrealityTV Sebastian, you are going to have to do some more Varjo videos with this mod enabled.
Now you just need to dial those settingd in with the fixed foveated rendering, so you gain the performance back.
Its probably not going to be ideal for gaming, but for virtual desktop work, or movies, it should be perfect.
My other recommendation would be to turn down game settings. Since the foveated displays are working, you just need xbox 360 level visuals to have a very decent immersive experience.
For ACC (which is a horribly unoptimized piece of junk in VR, visually) I feel it isn’t worth it but I got some good academic results:
So this was VB 150%, in game 100%, SteamVRSS 204%, FSR 0.45 and radius 0.2, focus screens turned on. 71MP target render res. Settings epic to mid with no contact shadows or AA.
I achieved around 67fps for an AI race with 12 visible cars and an FSR multiplier of 0.45 with a radius of 0.2. Anything lower than 0.45 actually causes a performance drop as the overhead becomes too high.
Still, I prefer the picture at VB120%, in game 120% and SteamVRSS 100% with an FSR multiplier of 0.70 and a radius of 0.5. This means the focus screens won’t turn on but I have to be honest, spotting them is pretty hard in the first place and within a race, their added value comes at too high a computing and visual trade-off cost. SDE isn’t noticable for me even without the focus screens tbh.
For something slow paced and visually very detailed I believe the above values are absolutely worth a go, irrespective of the HMD used.
having no reprojection mode, with req to have 6k x 6k per eye to enable focus screen, ough, i thought this hmd was way better than its. I couldnt use vp2 wo repro as performance was just awful, but they introduced it later, even on low res index wo repro its not anywhere pleasant to play good graphic games in it, as shadows, aliasing, reflections eat enourmous amout of gpu power. Hacks like fsr/reshade help but its not ideal and eg ets2 on index with my top rig i could get with 180%SS (3K vertifally on index) I couldnt play on ultras, fsr helped and now i can run it in reprojection. But it looks worse than pure 180% with reshade though.
I would say from reading all the info VR3 is a horribly unoptimized piece of junk, dont blame current gen gpu, its enough to run vr3 if it has properly implemented steamvr drivers. When ppl use g2 they complain current gen gpus are weak, no! the sotfware is weak, index with same SS res as G2 behaves 3x better. Until Varjo implements at least repro mode i wouldnt recommend this hardware at all, its barely usable, probably for apps like desktop working and watching movies, for business with custom developed apps and eye tracking utilization and for entusiasts which wish to xp best clear picture in vr. But for loaded graphic gaming this hardware sounds like a total disaster with distortion, neck pain and 30fps, no thanks. I know maybe im looking like bashing varjo, but its just beyound me how such a poorly optimized device can be promoted to masses. With words “best vr hmd. period”, “Holy grail of vr” etc, same story as with g2. Hope you guys will point all issues you having with Varjo and will make this product really up for enthusiast standards.
There are 3 company which are able to do good vrs atm - valve, oculus and sony, other vendors are mixed bag products, pimax gets closer to good vr standard and i believe if they keep improving they definetely will be there one day. Valve is most aware of vr usage issues company and their nextstandalone hmd with native pcvr support may give next best vr device on market soon. I just struggling to get why so many companies do same errors in their products again and again, for Varjo it all looks better apart of distortions as steamvr isnt their focus at all and weights issue caused by business needs, 2 displays, mirror, ET with auto adjustment etc. But for wmr, htc, hp, other vendors they just cant get vr community feedback and make somthing worth there is always dropped ball on one or another department.
