Take a chill pill dude. It’s just a VR headset.
Gotcha and that is a fair criticism. Although the software still is in early development and Pimax has said they are focusing their time on UX and improvements to software. Quality, I highly doubt will improve in the initial release but perhaps in the future.
Also when the base stations, controllers and upgraded head-strap with built in audio will make for a better experience I imagine.
So were you able to figure out why you were getting such poor performance while the testers don’t seem to have near the same issues?
lol…I don’t doubt it is.
Let’s get it civil here, there are a lot of out of place and personal offensive comments, and that doesn’t add anything to the points being discussed, please stay polite or stfu.
The Vive Pro includes a super easy to adjust head strap that helps balance the headset properly and secure it to your head better, which is a major point.
In my opinion, no headsets should have a fabric strap and be called a second generation device.
The modular approach is fine, but I feel like that’s a stop-gap solution. There’s no way to make a headset that includes eye tracking and hand sensors as an all-in-one package and remain at a consumer price point. That’s why StarVR is selling a $5000 headset to enterprise customers for this generation.
A true second-generation device should include those things. Pimax made sure there was a path to add them, which in my opinion fits the generation 1.5 label.
Gen 1, no one knew what we needed, but we quickly identified the shortcomings
Gen 1.5, making up for those shortcomings, but not as a cohesive package. One problem at a time (Vive Pro - better head mounting system. Pimax 5K/8K - wider FOV, higher resolution. Oculus Quest - remove wires, unrestricted movement)
Generation 2, all of those things in one.
We’re years away from true Generations Two headsets in my opinion.
Nicer?
Strange my Odyssey, which has superior lenses compared to Vive Pro, is definitely not in any way better than 5K+, unless we talk black levels only.
This statement alone just proves that you are too infected by the company you are working for. I hope they paid you good at least. Because now you have totally destroyed your own reliability/credibility. Its painful to see how far one can go.
Such a shame, as I like your personality in gerenal and your knowledge seems more than enough to make your own unbiased conclusions. But money talks, I guess.
Enough from me. I wont waste my time on this thread…
Pretty sure it was his 5th Gen i7 rig whereas the YouTubers all used high spec’d 8th Gen i7 rigs. In addition to having 75% of the performance of a 8700k, it also means the BM itself is slower and RAM as well.
It’s very worth pointing out that the Pimax needs a pretty beefy system to run well. You don’t need anything crazy like an 18 core CPU and Titan Z, but you’d be hard pressed to source a worthy system for $1,000.
Psvr headmount the Halo basic design that WMR has duplicated.
Yes the psvr hesd mount has drawbacks for sure.
He’s entitled to his opinion and at the end of the day he tested the unit as it was delivered to him. I’m sure as and when pimax create an actual retail reoease package they might start sending them out to reviewers. The M2 is still early kickstarter pledge reward level, not final retail.
I’m not chilling because only a few called him out for being obviously biased and stating some dumb, dumb stuff in his review
I mean just look at the three testers who’ve actually tested the device for so long saying how it’s the best consumer vr headset. Why so much contradiction do you think between them and tom’s hardware?
Anyways you’ll see how my point will be proven right when the first 100 write their impressions
Yes, I’m quite sure a great many games will work fine with a 1080.
I’m sure there’s quite a few that will work with a 1070 too.
At this stage, the widest FOV doesn’t work at all when steam is at 100% rendering. The headset display locked up and I had to restart PiTool to get it back. I expect that will be fixed, but I don’t have much faith in less than a 2080Ti driving the full FOV at reasonable frame rates.
I hope I’m proven wrong because I can’t afford a 2080Ti, and I’m probably not getting a free review sample from Nvidia any time soon.
Well, when I set up my Vive Pro, it was quite a mess, since for some reason it would not recognize the device and I had to reconnect it over and over again until I finally got it working. Only to find out though that the microphone is sooo bad on the Vive Pro, with all its pop noises, that I cannot actually use it for any livestreams. Quite disappointing after paying 869 €uros for it.
The software of the Pimax headsets had been really bad during our M1 testing phase. But they did actually improve a lot since the early days and I believe that setting up the device is now pretty straight forward and consumers that can get a Rift or Vive to work will be able to do so here as well. And not just will they get a much improved FOV and and overall picture clarity, they will also get a fantastic microphone.
It’s a preliminary introduction review for the masses more than us backers. He even stated the review was rushed by the editor wanting a quick review.
Money has nothing to do with my opinion. For the record, you’ve probably made a fair be more from YouTube than I have for my review.
Full disclosure: I get a flat rate of $350 for a headset review. Nothing else. I do not see a share of add revenue, and I don’t get bonuses down the road. My opinion is not for sale and I’m pretty stunned that you would suggest that, Martin.
Is there a good way of using these? I bought a Lenovo Explorer for my seated area and I just stopped using it because the headset floats a few millimeters in front of my face making the FOV look tiny and letting in too much light around the edges.
It’s a preliminary introduction review. With the timeline he received the headset to when the editor wanted a peice to publish. I am sure he will jave an in depth review later on diving deep into color/distortions etc.
Just read the article and I can’t say I disagree. The tone is a bit grimm though, there was no need for that.
I definitely agree there’s a good chance that my CPU and RAM are slowing things down for me. I mentioned that in the Arizona Sunshine section.
I wish I could afford to upgrade the rest of my rig, but I went into debt just to buy the 2080 for the review. I simply can’t afford to upgrade the rest of it right now.
The camera really should have been implemented as we only have 2 usb-c ports for expansion. But who knows maybe an expansion block\hub might be able to be put between the hand module or connected to upper usb-c port.
Pimax mic has great reviews compared to current offerings.
