Some controller Compatibility issues with Index controller (Some Info)

Hi! How did it go?

Gonna be testing tonight - been busy with work. My quest kept having left controller dropouts with seemingly high battery, but it turned out to be undercharged NiMH’s even with a ‘charged’ status in the quest. Wasted time!

Will follow up when I find more.

I think there has been an improvement, I am scoring consistently higher in beatsaber, and managed to beat an old highscore I thought I’d never beat, and I’ve not played in months (due to this frustration)

Although I dont know if there has been an update to the game to make it easier… (I doubt it?)

Thank you so much for going to test!

For anyone curious, the openVR space calibrator is pretty simple to use. Tested on the quest - I don’t own any WMR hmds, but I think this will definitely be a viable solution for G2 if the controllers are iffy

Just wanted to report that (finally) i’ve got index controllers, i’ve programmed my steam key with powershell command from github and i’ve played 1h+ session of beat saber without any issue, perfect.
I’ve not plugged the usb key on the hmd, i keep it on the chaperone border on an usb hub, no problems so far, my chaperone is 2m*2,5m so it’s quite small, and my receiver never goes out of range.
Only thing to note, comparing to vive Wand, this controllers are much more sensible to reflections, i have a glass wall on a room sifde, never had big problems with vive wands, while with index ones i had to cover the entire wall with the tend to avoid lost tracking, so bear in mind that you will have to pay much more attention to reflections with index controllers.

There’s no issue on my OG 8K. My Index controllers are tracking properly. Since I just got the controllers a week ago, it’s possible that Valve fixed something. (The issue wasn’t limited to Pimax headsets.)

As of using my OG 8K the same day you made this post, I can say the issue is still very much there. Tracking was lost on my left index controller frequently still, which was always the one that lost tracking before. I’ve also had this controller replaced already and same issue so the controller is not faulty.

Then there must be some sort of difference between our headsets or our USB connections. Both of my controllers are 100% consistently working.

Also, what version base stations do you have? I’m using ver 1. Could that be the difference?

I cant even pair my Index Controllers with my Pimax5k+ but they are detected when usb is connected in the computer. Using BS 2.0.

I use ver 2 base stations but since all of our logs are saying that the connection with the index controller is dropping, we know it isn’t a failure with what the base stations are seeing. The only way I could see BS 2.0s being the issue is if they are the thing that is causing there to be too much traffic on the cable. @Heliosurge do we know if the staff that are trying to recreate this issue are using 1.0 or 2.0 base stations? Still unsure if they even contribute to the issue but I think it might be worth checking out both versions of Base Stations just so we can find out if they contribute in any way.

Not sure Pimax has recreated some issues. But seems hit and miss as some have the issue and some don’t.

I think @TheIronWolf has posted how to check logs on Lighthouses.

@Alex.liu might be able to explain what testing pimax has conducted and if tested in both v1 and v2 lighthouses. Guaranteed they have tested on v2.

For what it is worth, I am using 1.0 base stations and have the issue. I am fairly certain this is a headset related issue.

i only get it on specific games, right now it’s consistently after about 15 minutes on eleven table tennis the tracking starts failing but if i switch to another game like synth riders tracking is fine again

Hey guys!

Getting tired of running a cable through my shirt. I wanna fix this XD

Can anyone confirm that if:

  1. I buy one of these:
Wireless Receiver USB dongle Adapter For Steam game Controller 2018 U7V2 for sale | eBay

  2. Flash it with this:
GitHub - ykeara/SteamVR-Dongle-Flash: A simple Guide and batch script to flash steam controller dongles to watchman dongles for SteamVR/OpenVR

  3. Strap it somehow to the headset

I can make it work?

Thank you

I believe that if you get a dongle, it doesn’t even have to be strapped on to the headset. It can just be plugged into a USB port on your PC and work the same.

Oh Yeah I didn’t update.

I finally bought 1 used Steam Controller from marketplace. I couldn’t wait a 2 months shipping for something that might not work.

Flashing was A1, tracking is now near perfect!

Yeah for small play spaces that’s the way to go. I put it on my HMD in the case I ever set up a huge room

After some time, I figure that my tracking issue is not gone. It came back, even with one steam dongle. To be sure that one controller is communicate via dongle, I tried to take out dongle; emediately my left controller was gone, and other was still working. That means I didn´t make mistake.

The issue is in some games, not all. I.e. in game HL Alyx, resolution is 6940x3288, no pp. All USB ports are forced not to save energy.
When I do not move left hand (tracked via dongle) for a several seconds, I lost tracking on it. If I move a lot that hand, I never lose tracking.

PS: I found in device manager also some HID devices with possibility to disable saving energy - I will try unthick that too.
