Ah yes, good to find out Pimax finally acknowledges this issue as soon as soon as they are no longer willing to let me exchange or get a replacement. Best $1,000 paperweight I’ve ever bought that took over half a year to finally get to me and only after I contacted them multiple times about it. Doesn’t stay connect with controllers that it is advertised to stay connected with and has a housing that falls apart a year after you buy it. I think I’m just done with Pimax. I’ve been more than patient with Pimax because I really thought they would pull through at some point, but no, its just not going to happen. I’m just going to put my Pimax back in its box and save up for an Index or something.
That is not how I interpreted Kevin’s statement personally - the new HMDs use the same radio IC, but various improvements have been made without changing the main IC. That is, if anything, a good sign. I don’t think this is a signal strength issue because the controllers track perfectly, even far away, 99% of the time.
I understand their priorities with 8kx, but I do wish this issue was more properly addressed. It’s not a small portion of users.
The main IC being the same doesnt show much, apart from that it should be technically fine. There are other factors such as poor power delivery or poor signal shielding that that can cause negative performance. Just so happens that these are things that are addressed in the 8KX.
I dont expect my 5K+ Index Controller performance to improve, regardless of any changes Pimax can make via software.
Well the issues with Vive and Index improved on this issue. So no reason why it can’t on pimax. Likely needs some watchman firmware updates maybe.
The Fact that there are many users with minimal controller issues on Pimax with same radio IC suggests it can indeed be remedied.
I just really want this issue to be resolved. This post started back in 2019 and I’ve been sticking with it pretty much since the start. Over half of my time I’ve spent with my Pimax has been just me attempting to resolve this issue and find a solution.
Indeed though often the hardest part of resolving an issue is being able to reproduce it. At least we know they have managed to reproduce the issue which is key in being able to figure out how to fix it.
Nonono…
I’m having the same issue with the wands and pimax 8k+.
Tracking issues, sometimes one wand differently jump to the roof… And stupidly remains floating up in the air.
Rrrrr
Pimax really needs to formally address this, now multiple users are having issues with vive wands on new hmds… I never had vive controller tracking problems with my SN203 5k+.
perhaps the better rubbers housing… ? The newer controllers have decreased power as the first generation? there is a running microwave in neightbor appartment… Who knows…
At least one of those wand users had them plugged into an bluetooth dongle and not through the hmd though. so probably more of a software issue than a hardware one?.
The exact opposite, @Saren ‘fixed’ the issue but he can ONLY use his vive wands by going to 2 flashed dongles, after unpairing everything connected to the HMD with the lighthouse console. I’d push him to try and connect at least one wand to the HMD, but really this issue doesn’t exist for a single other steamvr HMD… the exact same setup worked on his vive, so I’m not going to blame his setup. It sounds an awful lot like everyone else in this thread. At this point I’m not going to fold on my opinion - there are dead obvious issues with the bluetooth receivers and/or associated firmware in Pimax HMDs.

I highly speculate this too.
On that night, I tried one wand to HMD, one wand to Dongle, and they worked fine in beat saber from what I remembered. In fact, if I pair both wands to HMD, only 1 controller would lost tracking.
And, I tried VRChat last night with the following setup: 2 wands and left foot tracker to dongles, hip tracker and right tracker foot to HMD. The result is, the hip tracker lost tracking 80% the time. Other devices were kind of glitchy/floaty (I think because of dongles being to close / pitool) but they do not lost too much tracking or even connection.
So, I can almost confirm there are issues regarding receivers in my pimax HMD. But it’s been a year and half since my purchase, I don’t think they would accept my RMA.
On the other hand, my dongles are not flashed, but the genuine dongles came from vive trackers that I don’t need to flash anything for wands pairing to them.
EDIT SOLVED!
@Thall I bought dongle, successfully changed to Watchman dongle, and somehow I can not pair controllers. Pitool is disabled (not started), HMD turned off, then I start steam vr (dongle is in usb 2.0). I click on 3 lines (Hamburger menu) then devices / connect controllers. And then nothing, it says waiting for my HMD to turn on and wlan adapter?
Should I connect controllers with usb cables to PC?
There is no pairing anywhere in settings?
What I do wrong?
EDIT!!!
Piservice must be killed in task manager!!! Now it works as described.
I have now one index controller connected on Steam dongle (on PC), and another on my Pimax 5k+; finally it is working flawlessly.
Before I had many many times interruptions with left controller disappearing and reappearing. Most often that was while my left hand was down without much moving. Then I had to rise and shake my hand, to track again.
I was thinking I had to RMA that controller…
PS: I had to buy whole Steam Link package with dongle, used it was 30 Eur.
Hi. Have you tried to use the knuckles with the quest?
I saw videos around anout this possibilities but i never went through the all process myself. Have you done it by any chance?
Using opevr space calibrator
Didn’t even know it was possible with the quest! I may try it this weekend and I’ll let you know
Thank you! Looking forward to your test!
Please let me know!
Hey BrziJoe, good that it worked for you too!
Best regards
I won’t be buying a dongle to get around the issue, so I sure as hell just won’t be buying another Pimax headset if this isn’t fixed, unfortunately. I really wanted an 8KX too.
I agree. Pitool .262 has a release note mentioning tracking. Hopefully we see some improvement.
