So today its the pimax chrystal launch(europe time),so i am curious what we can expect at our last day from the pimax 7th Anniversary Event

similar prediction from me, Q3/Q4 2023.

I just don’t know why Pimax keep adding all this technogy when all they need to do is release is a refined 8KX. It’s like making a car that can’t break 200mph but then you announce a new car that will break 300mph! If you can’t get man to the moon FFS don’t shoot for Mars.

Did you mean bionic lenses? Don’t think there are bionic displays in the 12k.

The only thing that is different between the crystal and 12k are the lenses and displays, everything else seems to be the same. I’m guessing some parts are different like the parts that drive the displays but overall they are very similar. That said, it doesn’t mean the increased complexity of the 12k is trivial by any means. The improved lenses along with the claim of zero distortion at such a huge FOV is definitely a lot of work.

Yeah that addition so late into the development was a surprise, not sure if it’s a definite yet though.

We already know, directly from Pimax in that latest announcement, that the crystal won’t do so (seems like it will ship this quarter but without standalone at the very least) so 100% the 12K will not come in this quarter with all the boxes ticked. Overall I would assume it is coming next quarter, which is fair enough. Putting up some pre-orders or mystery boxes is not reaching that set quarter imo, which I somewhat got the impression was what they were hoping would be taken from Q3 for the crystal. Maybe I misunderstood though.

I think to do a refined one they really do need the SoC. That makes things much much easier overall, you can handle a lot of stuff within the headset and avoid a great deal of compatibility issues, even just things like audio become a lot more predictable and reliable. The standalone aspect was a bonus of going that route and I guess they see the market going towards standalone and want to get in on that although highly expensive hardware and a standalone market place are conflicting ideas for the most part. That all said, releasing it as just a PCVR headset and bringing standalone later makes total sense and should have been the intention from the get go. For all the people (not anyone here, it’s something I see on twitter) that constantly complain about headsets having an SoC I think they miss the point that the SoC will be a big part of what enables future PCVR headsets to be better, and when you have that stuff there then sure why not enable standalone functionality to watch movies, play basic games and social experiences etc. It’s another potential revenue stream and the hardware already exists.

Erm check this out.

On the panels they say this. QLED and Mini LED. Isn’t that dual panel?

They even show how the two come together.

I think it’s Pimax who needs some reality.

This!

If they produced an 8KX Mk2 with all the sh!t ironed out, with a true plug & play experience, that piece of plastic would actually have some true market appeal!

But no, instead imho chances are 95% that their new headsets will yet again prove that they release the next iteration of their interpretation of how you do good hardware: draw up all wishes you can think of, buy the parts (if possible, the cheaper alternative) which may, just may come near a spec you listed, and then just plug it in and be completely astonished that it doesn‘t perform perfectly! At that point in time they’re two months from their announced world-wide launch and try to fix what other companies call „integration activities“ with a bit of duct tape, saliva & prayers.

when u look at the specs of the 12K it makes me wonder how they are doing it all for $2.4k? the enterprise varjos have bionic displays but are much more expensive, have no audio, no standalone etc. i hope they can pull it off idc so much if they are late, rather it be a good product and be late than rubbish and rushed to release earlier.

I’m not so sure. The 12k has lip tracking, body tracking and facial expresion tracking. The only thing it doesn’t track is your dingaling. Maybe in the 16k.

I don’t think you realised I stated Q4 2023 not 2022. So 12k at least 12 months away imo.

You realize that those are all addons and that the Crystal supports them too, right? All the attachments that the 12k supports, the Crystal does as well. Also the projector/retina display is not on the 12k. It was just a little “we’re working on this tease”.

They, apparently, made prototypes with the projector, but it took x3 DP cables or something and they were just prototypes. Definitely would not expect that to hit retail with the 12k. Maybe another model waaaay in the future.

Why did Pimax announce it then in this video?

The enterprise headsets are for an entirely different market and much of the difference in cost versus consumer market is that these come with business level support. You’ll see that same kind of thing for other products and services where the business version is multiple times more expensive than the consumer version. Essentially businesses are paying for the guarantee that it will work for their mission critical applications where any significant downtime is unacceptable. That’s very different than consumer products, so you can’t really directly compare the pricing.

Wait Pimax is now trying to add interchangeable lenses into the 12k too? Where did this news come from? Why are they changing a fundamentel design characteristic at literally the last moment? This doesnt bode well for the 12k at all. Theres no way its coming out anytime soon if they aren’t even out of the design phase yet…

I’ve not seen that, unless others know different.

This was posted above-

Well things seem to change a lot when it comes to Pimax. One announcement it has Bionic displays, now apparently it only has Bionic lenses. Who knows what it will have next year. lol.
