So pre-order customers are getting their 8K-X in August/September?

Hi Captain - really your take on how production works isn’t how it is at all. Blocking out inventory is not likely to effect deliveries.

Think of it this way - imagine you have a widget where you sold 100 of them and you commit to protect an additional 100 of them for some preferred customers. During the 4 week production period you plan to produce 1,000 widgets, 100 of those committed to orders and 100 protected for a class of buyers. This sort of arrangement merely prevents the sales team from invading the 2nd 100 units for other purposes.

I feel like pre-order customers got screwed over. We didn’t get a loaner headset these past 8 months. We didn’t get any discount. We were never told upon pre-order that there are hundreds of backers from 3 years ago waiting. And now after the big Pimax day, we still have to wait what feels like forever.

If Pimax is ramping up, how much time did I really save by pre-ordering in November? Do I get it like a month earlier than people who pre-order now?

That would be saying that Pimax took preorder money to finish other things like new head sets, addons and finish backer orders. Please stop taking money for preorders until shipped. So that Captain Daedalus and myself don’t feel like the next block of kick starters!!! Kick Starters should get what they were promised at the same time thank you preorder customers.!!! right? stop pet and repet!!

I’m confused did you guys really not know from the event before Pimax Now that there were Backers waiting for their headsets for 3 years? I swear they mentioned it a few times. I thought it was pretty obvious they said that those Backers will get it first.

When I first pre-ordered the 8K-X back in November, from the Pimax website, there was no mention of backers waiting. I thought pre-order meant we would be the first customers. Only when I later became active on this forum I found that backers exist.

I ignored repeated warnings from other forums about not buying Pimax products, because I really believed them when they said they would ship in Dec/Jan. Now I know why so many avoid trusting Pimax.

Yes. It shouldn’t come as a surprise for anyone following Pimax somehow (watching announcement, checking the forum and so on)… :upside_down_face:

I knew there would be excessive amounts of waiting involved (as I also pre-ordered the 5K+ and the hand-tracking module back in 2018), but I also knew that it would be worth it…

Here’s the good news. We’ll find out if this is actually worth it this week and you can choose to cancel your preorder if you want.

By the way when the 8KX was announced at the KS the date was ‘Whenever that is’ literally no one knew what it was or when it would be made even after the 5K+ and 8K started shipping

@DrWilken

Everyone here has the patience of a saint.

We all feel the same. I’m in the backer crowd and no email for tracking no. and it’s driving me up the wall. Trust me.

That’s the way you interpreted that post? wow… The post shows you are not affected by this at all in any way whatsoever. As in 0%.

What??? I have 1,500 reasons. So stop taken pre order money until shipped?? this would stop how I feel about the long time delays and the not so honest reponse. I’m still here I have a 5K+ and I don’t want Pimax to fail. but I offer up something good that could help change the way people think about Pimax even if its something small to you!!! 0% right this is why I get pissed my pre order of $1,500.00 means nothing 0%

Ok people, enough.

Personally, I don’t get into the discussions about “I got screwed over $x” mostly because I don’t have a stake. I never really needed anything other than the headset itself, and as long as it is affordable, and available sooner than competitors, I am ok. Cash burning a hole in my bank account isn’t much different than with a company with a standing offer to refund for me.

But lately, there has been this repeated retrenching of the same ‘my money went somewhere’ or ‘I didn’t get every last whatever from the Kickstarter’.

And, it seems to be coming from the same people.

Now, seriously.

During Pimax Now, and the Q&A, there were people asking to get in line for more 8kX units. Those who already backed are in line to receive within a month. At the rate production is ramping up, the remainder will get their headsets shortly after.

COVID-19 does account for a 4-6 month delay. To Pimax’s credit, they made some more refinements. If the automatic optical alignment at the factory, more robust enclosures, or the frequency response of the DAS resulted in another month on top of that - for any one of those - it would be very well worth it.

Meanwhile, the side projects seem to have had no shortage of further development. Hand controllers, wireless, all in the pipeline. Wireless in particular is held up by third party production which obviously Pimax cannot accelerate. The hand and eye tracker modules are due to ship within the month.

Repeated complaining isn’t helping. If you still haven’t received something that is already available like the base stations, then saying something might get something done. Otherwise, it will be done ASAP.

C19 was still 4 month away when I preordered.

I see it the same way as you described @mirage335.

I am happy it’s coming with Eyetracking and if the rumor about the GPUs is right and the new GPUs will be beefy we can get 30% boost from DFR and 45% from the GPU - even the devs at DCS then need to try harder to keep us from rolling at 75FPS or 90 FPS!!

And I think many people expected shipping around or a little before February. I did. Guess what happened around then.

Lately, I have been going through my own BOM files for old electronics files, looking them up on Mouser. Every time I do, I experience the dreaded feeling.

Am I going to have to redesign this whole thing because this part is backordered nine weeks just because someone wanted to make as many as possible of their thing and didn’t leave two items for anyone else?

COVID-19 disruption to both manufacturing and logistics is real. Pimax is in a much tougher position, with many more new or unusual components. And the only thing a reasonable hardware company can do is make little improvements with every redesign they have to go through.

@MReis I really wouldn’t count on the new GPUs. Best hope is for Eagle Dynamics to not ruin our framerates.

I know… It just my hope and sarcasm mixing up.
But I do belive we will get some more FPS out of the GPU this time around - but only if the game engines are up to using that power.
For DCS, it would be a dream to have them truly pimp there engine. I PLAYED SOME FS 2020 damn its so beautiful and you can flip every f nk switch - was near crying that it’s not the new dcs engine

I bought a couch back in December, it was a customized couch, I payed it on December and it was supposed to arrive in February, it arrived yesterday. And many other things that I bought that wasn’t already fabricated, like the Woojer Vest among others.
I’ve been waiting all these months for many products, 8KX included, it has been a bad situation full of delays, not only with Pimax though
