So is the xtal still the best vr headset out there(even to expensive)?

Yeah, I meant it in Jest, but what WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA, is to have pimax contact them, and see if they would be interested in having pimax be a licensee for a consumer version of their tech

Pimax makes all their Optics in house, and clearly has ability to ship headsets in volume, so what would be cool is if Pimax could partener with them, to help them do what is unfeasible for them as a business at the present moment, ie consumer product.

Maybe Pimax can have them help write software for the 8K, where the relationship between Pimax and VRengineers would be like the Samsung Oculus relationship. What do you think @PimaxUSA

Maybe Zeiss could do a hot job on that they are at least peaking into the matter…

I’ve been saying VR companies need to involve lens companies from the beginning.
Many people crap on about real lenses would cost too much and assume toy lenses from cut up overhead projectors are all they can afford. And here we have the entire device for $60 including 2 Zeiss lenses…just what I’ve been saying, lenses are cheap. They’re expensive when foolish companies like pimax keep paying to cut up more overhead projectors to get toy lenses. VR seriously needs lens companies on board.
Thanks for posting the link.

I have a Zeiss One Plus and the lens are really clear, but I also think there could be even better lens made today, and the Zeiss lens used in the One Plus are very small, really too small for any VR headset of today.

@PimaxUSA take a look at this new panel from INT Tech, looks like a very promising OLED one for a future 8K XR , 2,17 inch 2228 ppi specifically for VR with integrated light field tech, site says “By further integrating UHPD™ with light field technology, INT develops UHPD ™ (Ultra High Pixel Density), which creates stunning and near-real viewing experience with multi-focal planes, and greatly reduces visual fatigue from vergence-accommodation conflict (VAC).” , plus is a cost effective solution , they say.

Thanks to Virtualmisterl for pointing to the webpage.

that looks realy good, maybe pimax must contact them…

Looks good - that would be quit cool for an 8kxr!

Using Theses panels would require major changes to the current pimax 8kx design. Also the version showed is 1:1 ratio not very usefull for large FOV VR. Plus procuring a special batch you means even higher cost…

Just saying…

Best vr headset is Varjo vr-1, I personally consider it gen 3 dk1 hmd. With 60 ppd at center is equal to 8k per eye non foveated. To skip waiting 5-10 years before Oculus, Samsung,Valve release their gen 3 pcvr price is 6500e. I expect us to see gen 3 with waveguide displays made for ar/vr to be solution to lens distorsions, VAC hdr. Check out what Kura lists in its specs. Apple hinted 8k ar in 2020. Ready Player One visioned hmd is near future. My 2c on this topic.

You mean like 10 years at least…

Yep, but it doesn’t mean they could make a 3:2 version , if the VR market ask for it.

Unfortunately the Varjo is very narrow FOV , not much to wish for people who already experienced 170’ degree VR , except extremely HD resolutions, especially Pimax users.

It may take 10 years for 8k per eye hmd to cost sub 500usd and to be able to game at such res with 1000usd pc. I predict less than 5 years for sub 1k usd hmd. Ar will bootstrap vr, becase ar is what business wants to boost productivity. Market for ar is huge comparing to vr atm - pcmasterrace gamers. And cost is not as big factor for b2b. Pimax is on good path with 8k x re be . But for design i think varjo vr1 still has the edge. For gaming use case we are not hmd limited, tech is there for 4k+4k at 75hz, issue is gpus are not fast enough to utilize full potential, upscaling from 1440pish per eye is wastefull, that is why Valve chose 1440x1600@144 as for visual comfort in games with higher rez you want higher hz too. At 4k per eye Palmer said 120 is minimum. Gpu for that is 3-5years in future 4080ti .

From what I understand talking with Xtal, yes I ALMOST bought one… The acheive less SDE by not using a lens that magnify quite so much and use a larger screen etc… The SDE is still there, just not as magnified, so not quite as noticable. Larger screens seem like a logical way to go, if we can get large curved screens could make for some interesting headsets …

Lower magnification would go a long way to solving some of the Pimax distortion issues, and would give a bump in PPD.

Pretty sure Pimax is using “large” screens/panels in comparison to most other headsets.

It’s 5.5":

Also, the size of the headset is a factor…

Note that 5.5/5=1.1 10% panel utilization improvement
