SkyrimVR - TAA, Parallel Projections and ENB workaround

I find this to be very odd and annoying. No matter what version of SkyrimVR i use with the Pimax, Vanilla or ultra modded, The grass and the water in a distance of ~10-20m is smearing in the right panel, when panning the head. Its just the right panel and it goes away with parallel projection offcourse, but without parallel projections you gain ~15fps and the game is much sharper. And why is it just in the right panel?
I have found this issue with no other content so far.
Any ideas? or is nobody else having this issue?

Thx for sharing.
Its weird that i read so little … next to nothing about it. Everybody plays SkyrimVR and i assume everybody does so without PP, and nobody seems to be annoyed by this.
But meanwhile i find it to be only playable with PP on, since i used that for quite some time now. I dial down the vertical res to ~2880 / ingame SS to 1.5 and then its pretty great. But i don’t get it… just the grass and water? why’s that!?

Do you have TAA on? If so try turning it off, it makes game terribly blurry anyway. I see some smearing on water but not on grass.

unfortunately it has nothing to do with TAA. I use:

without adaptive res and with ingame SS and its super sharp and beautiful without any blur and most importantly without any shimmering.
But still the gras and the water are smearing when panning the hmd. It has sth to do with animated textures. Grass and water won’t move consistently, but twist and turn and smear. Try any area with lots of grass (grass mod? e.g. Veydosebrom etc. with dense grass, strengthens the effect) and lots of water (Realistic Water 2) and you will see.

edit: PP on and its gone. But you have to compensate in steamvr the recommended resolution bump PP suggests, and go back to vertical res ~2880. Then PP won’t cost FPS.

I don’t see it on grass at all if TAA is off but do see it if it is on. I’m using default grass btw. I see it on water with both TAA on and off.
I guess many people use same combination so it doesn’t bother them. I’m only annoyed by objects popping on edges in some interior cells but not enough to warrant a loss of performance or SS with PP on (normal FOV, 2080 with lots of mods).

You were right. TAA is causing this.
Therefore use:
bTAAWater 1
and the water won’t smear again. Since this is telling the Water, to use TAA global settings. So if you turn TAA off “bTAAWater 1” will turn it off for water too.

for me Enhanced Landscapes: Grass Overhaul
seems to fixate the grasses. But i’m not sure. Since i’d still like to use TAA and PP, cause i cant stand the whole world shimmering like hell, i try that again with Veydosebrom. Its the most fidelity. Sharp but not shimmering and as a positive side effect, i won’t start feeling eye cancered when entering loading screen too.

wow, I found out I have the same problem. Something was always bothering me. Now I know. Turning off TAA helps but the flicker is driving me crazy. Does it work with the Grass Overhaul?

There is a texture replacer for pine trees that has minimal aliasing. I settled for vanilla grass: good performance, doesn’t shimmer much for me and is not ‘out of place’ like most grass mods. Other than that if aliasing still bothers you go with TAA+PP.

I have tried the mod, but for me it still shimmers too much without anti aliasing. But thanks for the tipp.

I’m pretty much torn between the decision, going with TAA and PP, or without both, because of the shimmering. And i am swapping things in these categories: Grasses, Trees and ENB-Settings sharpness and blurring. I also play around with the ingame SS while maintaining 2880 vertical resolution with SteamVR.
Right now, what looks best for me is Veydosebrom with not so dense Settings (i think its default in the FOMOD) and i use this tree setup. It’s a well balanced and little handycrafted Tree-Mod-mix, which can be greatly fine tuned for darkness and overall looks of trees and also works great with DynDOLOD which is the better performing LOD option for me compared to SSELODGen. I overwrite that with a 3DTrees setup, i made myself (mainly for maintaining the awesome looking dead trees and wood, lying around, and also the plants. (I hide a lot in MO2) But 3DTrees can be a major shimmerer, so you could leave that out.
And last but not least i tweak the ENB. Right now i’m using Obsidian Weathers with NVT, which looks great in VR (5K+ Colours) I use

these are for NVT, but you could just paste them in your inis and ingame hit shift+enter and try FXAA settings with sharpness off and you could also tweak the blurring.
This way i get a very well balanced sharpness, that looks natural, not oversharp and shimmering.
With my mod setup i maintain ~40FPS with small FOV and 72HZ this already looks smooth without Smart Smoothing. Now i just have to decide which one looks better: TAA and PP or the above tweakings without it. Without TAA you can push the ingame SS a little further (at least i’m trying to convince myself that i can) and it looks a little sharper/clearer overall. But you have the well known PP-off shenanigans in SkyrimVR, like loading screen eye cancer and shimmering and popping mountain LOD, and the popping edge textures in the FOV (this is better with small FOV though).
Overall i’d still say SkyrimVR needs Parallel Projections in a way: But it doesn’t need it, if you can tolerate some discomfort.

edit: I have to correct myself 3DTrees is apparently great for antishimmering trees. You just have to use it without “ET3D Every Tree different”, which i did. This mod retextures the Trees massively and with the SE version it looks stunning in 2K or 4K. But in VR we have a different scenario. The retextures look way oversharpened.
I now use the Ultimate Trees Setup with very dark trees. Lush and big. And on top of that 3DTrees with multiple hidden meshes/textures to work with Ultimate Trees (I just want some things from 3DT).
In addition to that
“EnableFXAA” on in ENB
“Enable Sharpening” off in ENB
And i almost have no shimmering at all. At least no clipping shimmer (the one that shows white flickering)

if i switch on PP i get other strange effects e.g. at flames of torches. I will try the FXAA with ENB. Maybe the shimmering is bearable with it.

You have to turn parallel projection on.

either

Yeah, i know that one. but atm i pretty much use the whole NORDIC Guide with the exceptions for VR. Right now we can really do everything like in the SE version when it comes to modding.
Some textures are to dark and some to bright. 2K-4K can result in a lot of shimmering and ENB can’t really use AO and Skylighting and offcourse DOF.
But its hightimes for Pimax and modding SkyrimVR. Wish there could be someone posting about experiences with the 2080Titan with loads of VRam and the Pimax 5K+
It can only get better from here on. (SE looks way more pretty though with Obsidian Weathers and Pinnacle ENB :wink: )
