Awesome review, thanks! Man I just find it mind boggling how a big and serious company like Samsung hasn’t been able to get the comfort right. I mean it sounds even (way) worse than the Pimax 5k+. Samsung really messed up there, I think pretty much everybody reported that the comfort is horrible
Its even more of a shame because the original Odyssey that I have has some of the same comfort issues. They had a great chance to address this with the plus and have apparently failed at it again. sounds like a nice improvement other than that though. I personally won’t be upgrading to it though because I have the 5k+ on the way, but also because the OG Odyssey already was good enough for me from an SDE perspective. I have spent many hours watching full length movies on it with great results and never once thought that SDE was an issue. I’m just really looking to get past the binocular effect so the Odyssey+ doesn’t appeal to me from an upgrade perspective.
I was thinking about trying that, but wouldn’t that significantly lessen the FoV?
It did lessen it a little but it’s still no worse than the rift, if not still a little better. I think the key is finding the absolute minimum thickness needed to get the nose off without reducing the fov much. Before I did this my eyes were too close to the lenses, my eye sockets were basically resting on the lenses themselves. Pulling them away a bit has also helped with the sweet spot…it’s much easier to find and stay in it.
Not sure if this was already discussed elsewhere, but I read in another forum that the Odyssey Plus shows some kind of weird smearing in the black areas, when you move your head left or right. Anybody notice that ?
Evertec do you see any issue with this concept? Is it easy enough to select headphones over Odyssey audio? Thanks
Yes the sharpness and the clarity OK but it’s just a photo… Where I’m surprise is the color of the monster… Vive and Samsung is green and pimax 5k+ and 8k is blue Grey… WHAT ‘S THE REALLY COLOR OF THE MONSTER? I HOPE I’ M NO DALTONIAN
Not sure what you mean. What concept? It’s easy to switch the audio in windows.
I have been a big fan of the Samsung Odyssey original and I’ve posted many positive things about it over the year here in this forum. And even though I’m expecting my 5K+ soon… i did go ahead and purchased the Odyssey+ and while I have no regrets about it and I’m VERY HAPPY with it… to me, objects that I see in the distance is more blurry than the original. But overall, I’m really liking the PLUS and will keep it and retire the original.
I don’t understand why anyone would need 6 headsets. I don’t care how much it costs, I only have one set of eyes, so I only need the best one.
I haven’t noticed anything like that. Prior to purchasing the Plus… i saw some through the lens photo comparison with the original and it looked to me like the blacks weren’t as black as the original… that is not the case at all. I see no differences in the blacks between the original and the Plus or any kind of smearing with the blacks.
Well honestly Seb or anyone shouldn’t debunk subjective perception. As I recall Seb doesn’t wear his glasses in VR so it might not be as blurry to him compared to others.
Comparisons & vr party. Some folks just collect things. How many headsets do you think Lucky has?
How did you manage to combine the two? It never occurred to me to use the original face pad… I have VR-Cover face-pad for my Original Odyssey and it was an improvement on the Original Odyssey but when I placed it on my Plus… the light leak on the sides was just way too much. I’ll have to try the original. But I would really like to know how you combined the two and if possible… maybe a picture??? When I tried the 5K+ at the backer meetup I found the 5K+ to be uncomfortable on my nose… if only it had a little more cushion. I showed my problem to Robin Weng and he told me that he would look into making the cushion thicker but I’m not certain that will happen… this combining face-pads has me intrigued… thanks
I can’t understand it too. I have five, and this is my limit. I will sell one.
VR party is a good reason
I put the original odyssey pad on the existing velcro then added strips of velcro with a sticker on the back on top, then stuck the cheap pad on top of that. I can take a picture when I get home but it fixed both the comfort and the light leak problem for me
Thank you for that… I thought about doing the same with Velcro but worried it would create light leaks…
I definitely notice the black smearing. Worse in some situations then others. It’s that not a problem with OLED in general?
Interesting… today is the first time I’m hearing about it… I’ll certainly look for it now though… don’t think I’ll have any choice now that its been brought to my attention… thanks I guess a game like Elite Dangerous would be a good testing of this.
