SadlyItsBradley's impression video

For the sake of clarity: I was not making any judgement on any one way being more or less wrong than any other. :7

…although ideally any headset should be adjustable for any head, but those come in so many more shapes and sizes than one might think (mine seems to comprise some particularly troublesome terrain, with lots of extremes and asymmetries, and I’ve had to modify all headsets I’ve had, just to get decent lens alignment), that I can’t think of any solution that is simultaneously universal, and user-friendly. :7

EDIT: For a brief while, there was a guy who made 3D-printed user-tailored gaskets for the Index. There was a 3D facial capture app for the iPhone, which customers would use, to send him captures of their faces. He then shaped a custom version of the gasket, which aligned the lenses with the user’s eyes, taking asymmetries and all into account, and put the cushion where it would offer best support and comfort. Alas, that ended when the capture app was for some reason discontinued.

Don’t see an issue with his video. This “launch” is half assed like most of the products with lots of promises on paper that either don’t exist or work sub par.

In the video and in comments he repeatedly states it’ll be the go to for sim audience which is the same as before.

Normal people for varied VR uses cases aren’t going to put on something this big, bulky and janky (tracking etc) and claim some euphoria.

Until I can get a hmd only variant off Amazon so I never have to deal with pimax directly, I’ll sit on the sidelines and thank all the beta testers on here for their upcoming hard work.

Good morning all

As I have already written here, I have been doing a lot of simulation every day since the beginning of VR in 2012 and especially since 2016 when dcs world / Il2 Bob / asseto corsa / Iracing went into VR.
Then this video of Mr. Bradley:

-1st:

He never says for a second that the Crystal is still in development when you listen to it you would think it came out of the pimax stand at CES 2023 with finalized VR helmets??

–2nd:

His bogus story about dust from interchangeable lenses?
He must not often play in vr?
Before and after each driving session on my simulators I take a cloth for glasses, I clean my lenses, I leave the cloth on my lenses.
Never and never do I find dust afterwards, or cobwebs or mold as I read on comments here lol?
Why not find a tarantula also behind the lenses lol
You have to be really filthy to have your helmet collect dust.

3rd:

Then its Blaaaaa Blaaaaaa it’s anti pimax bashing which has nothing objective at all as a VR enthusiast even if you don’t like pimax.

This Wednesday, December 7, I’m going to the #roadshow in Paris to test the Pimax crystal essentially as I’m passionate about #harcore simulation.

I will tell you if this crystal is worth its 1800€ or not

That’s not true is it? Crystal has a barrier. What happens when bugs get behind that barrier like your other HMD? You’re still in the same position as your other headset.

Yes it’s handy to have swappable lenses but I don’t think stopping dust or bugs is a reason for having them.

My DK2 has removable lenses and access to the panels. That headset was a nightmare for dust. Never had a problem with dust on my sealed Index.

As long as any headset is sealed 100% then dust never needs come into the equation.

Given the option I’d take Crystals swappable lens system but I doubt I’d ever take the large FOV lenses off.

Agan, this is all due to Pimax announcing the headset would ship in Q3 and then, mind you only in the last minute of their shipping window, letting us know that it will begin to ship mid October in China and in November elsewhere.

That is not Bradley effectively claming the demoed Crystal is ready for delivery and a production version, not a mere prototype, it is Pimax themselves! Don‘t try to shoot the messenger.

Unless of course you are assuming that everybody should know that Pimax marketing are talking bs anyhow. Which in my view unfortunately is true more often than is any good for them but doesn‘t justify to attack those who hold them to their own words rather than those who speak these words…

sorry but what you say is half wrong.

Already those who register for a roadshow and it is not to defend pimax, know at least pimax at the moment, its news and its new products.
So we all know that the promised release in June 2022 for q3 / 2022 has not been done.
I am the first to not be happy that the crystal will not come out in September 2022 but I prefer a postponed product for its marketing date.
My pimax 5k+ received as a backer years ago had exterior shell/cable/dots problems and frankly I would have preferred a postponement of the pimax date.
For deliveries, like all of us, I followed the postponement explanations:
-Pre-production of 20 crystals on the production lines to test them.
-Small quantity sale in China/late 2022.
-Sale after Ces 2023 and later on amazon.

After #Bradley’s test, he doesn’t talk about his gamer experience on #roomscale or simulation games.

What I’ve noticed since 2012 is that a lot of youtubers who test headsets don’t know anything about games, simulators and tell a lot of nonsense due to ignorance of hardcore VR games.
I have a #Team of pilots on iracing and the vr / helmets we know it on the fingertips without any pretension.
So these so-called specialist / youtuber videos make me and us laugh a lot without pretension, just an observation

Isn’t that the extreme end of a niche market. If doubt Pimax could survive selling to a few hundred or thousand ultra elite.

Crystal could be great. If it’s finished before other companies like Valve bring out their own high resolution solution.

When you have a product with no competition like it was back in 2016 you could take your time and be fine with even a 12 month delay. These days with higher resolution entry HMDs line Pico4 people are spoilt for choice almost. We get HP seemingly drop out. Only the strongest will survive so Pimax needs to hurry up or get left behind.

OK… and what about AMD GPU compatibility for the Crystal?

I mean, I’m sure there’s plenty of AMD GPU 6000 series owners as well as prospective buyers of the 7000 series who would like an explicit and definitive response from PIMAX. At minimum an official announcement for a planned point in time when PIMAX will make comment on it…

Pimax has told us that they are having a bit of trouble getting cooperation from AMD. I don’t understand exactly what that means, but in comparison, Nvidia has been actively collaborating with Pimax.
Given that I think the next AMD GPU looks darn good, I’d love to see this change

Except pubic hairs, Lack of effort trying things and has no understanding of the value if easy to swap optics. I would rather get a seet of lenses shipped to me or have a spare on hand should they be flawed or damaged.

Points on it not bring ready for sake after Sept’s announcement stating it was. Is all fair points.

Unfortunately no. Had Pimax not announced in Sept the Crystal is finalized and shipping in Oct then opening worldwide shipping starting November.

Pimax did indeed create the messy opportunity for a childish youtuber who ls obsessed with pubic hair he sees it everywhere.

Sept’s announcement should have been to announce delays not create the false premise it was ready to ship.

Having removed and cleaned my 5K+ lenses a couple of times, finding a hair had gotten under a removable lens at a roadshow wouldn’t surprise me. His assumption as to it’s origin did. Crass and unprofessional.

Err…. no.

I studied the information given by Pimax and I went to the roadshow. According to the Pimax information it was a demonstration of the production version being already shipped in China.

You must have had special information then. Or you automatically assume Pimax are telling bs and one has to read between the lines - which for us with lots of experience with Pimax probably is correct, but it is absurd to say that you can‘t criticize a company because you have to base your review on knowing that they‘re going to tell you crap anyhow!?

So no, I disagree.

And I don‘t believe that hardcore VR gamer equals sitting VR sim gamer. That just happens to be the niche you are in, but that‘s not valid to all of us. Otherwise nobody would have cared about the Vive having VR controllers in Spring 2016 while the Rift didn‘t - but guess what, it was huge deal at the time,

I am not a VR gamer nor a Simmer, but I’d like a high end headset with the best picture quality, and Pimax Crystal actually fits all the bills.
I don’t know how many people are just like me, who mostly consume just VR pictures and videos.
The Crystal’s Grand Canyon App is probably targeting people like us. We just want the best quality of pictures, so we can actually feel like being there personally. I don’t need to smash anything or blow anything up, I just like to stand at the edge of the canyon and soak in the beauty of the nature.
So out of the whole review, I just care about one sentence, that “the picture quality is good, no distortion”.
Well, thank you Bradley! That’s all I need to know before buying Crystal.

Unfortunately all too true. Pimax could have prevented a lot of ill will by announcing well before launch that due to circumstances- like the continuing Covid lockdowns in China, they have fallen behind and the crystal and 12k will be delayed. Then when they posted that they had a near completed crystal and an entirely new game console to demo for the sake of constructive feedback moving forward, I think the reaction of all of us, critics, fans, and reviewers alike, would have been more positive.
The roadtrips are actually a great way to field test a late prototype and discover issues to be fixed. That’s how they might be better sold as events too.
Cheers.

I said it before and I’ll say it again, Pimax scheduling their “anniversary event” the exact same week as the supposed launch of the Crystal and then proceeding to not even mention the Crystal basically at all during it, when we obviously would assume this event was supposed to be hyping up their new product, but saying nothing about its release until literally the LAST day of quarter 3 with another bogus date(that they have delayed yet again) was one of the most ridiculous things Pimax has done in a while. They cannot help themselves with bogus release dates that they proceed to break constantly. This is my biggest problem with Pimax as a company. Not their hardware, but the apparent unprofessionalism they have when it comes to their deadlines. Delays happen, and in this case it seems to be all for the better as they can refine the obvious problems the Crystal has before release that they otherwise could not have done without people getting a first hand look at it. But them marketing this roadshow as a complete retail ready unit when it obviously is not is why we have reviews like this. I think if Pimax was HONEST about their issues with getting this to market and advertised these roadshows as PROTOTYPES and that there is still refining needed to be done then they would have gotten alot less flak from people looking to dismiss the entire company.

I don’t agree with the extremely negative tone and childishness of this reviewer, but I do agree Pimax does bring this type of thing onto themselves more often than not.

It is too bad he neglected to try the 42ppd lenses as I am fairly certain especially in your case the closer to human vision clarity would definitely be a boon.

Might not be the first time I pointed here but it was a long time ago. AUTOMATION the car company tycoon game started off with a kickstarter about 10 years ago and STILL doesn’t have a proper campaign, yet I hold no ill will to that company despite backing it, because they have always given frequent updates, reasoning, and just the truth to the people interested - about the problems they’ve faced and the goals they’d like to meet. I will admit, I dunno if they’ll ever finish it if they keep moving the goalposts… But still this is a perfect example of how to keep your customers happy while underdelivering… Pimax should take note. You don’t have to watch this vid link but it might help understand if you can’t, why some people are so sour on pimax assume the worst and have a bunch of patience for other ventures taking a whole lot longer than they were supposed to.

Bradley may have bias but remember, it came from somewhere I wonder where, and still praised the good he saw.

I like to fly through that canyon.
I use VR for many non-destructive things like golf, skiing. hang-gliding, racing, flying, kayaking, bowling, billiards, etc. This is not to say I’m adverse to blowing something up but it should require a challenge. :grinning:

AMD and VR??
Extensive debate!!!
It’s not up to pimax to have a strategy for amd in vr.
Pimax doesn’t make GPUs that I know of?
Amd’s latest conference doesn’t talk about VR for a second, so working with pimax / meta / hp is an area where Amd doesn’t communicate and doesn’t care.
Microsoft is in the same line, the #Wmr / Vr they take care of it more in development!
In 2016 nvidia communicated on the vr in 2016 for the release of the gtx 1000, vr at 100% with dedicated graphics drivers.
Since then, nvidia has been working on pa vr with vr headset manufacturers.
Amd nothing :face_with_spiral_eyes::face_with_spiral_eyes:!!!??
