I’ve been following SIB for long enough to see that criticisms are generally leaning negative, sure, but rarely not without basis. You never see SIB say something without a qualifier.
Also it literally in his name/title, do you think “YippeeItsSkippy” would be a better handle?
SIB is a wonderful counterweight to the nature of VR optimism - my own included.
Furthermore, I find that some of the technical aspects are deeply questioned and understood, which brings a certain rigor that VR really needs when the demands of our senses are not easily met. Immersion is difficult. Many attempts are hacky. We shouldn’t be forgiving of those things when our senses are not easily fooled.
Well it could be equally said it was funny(well more sad) how our backer community reacted to structured professional reviews when they were accurate out of the box review. Vs the bubblegum reviews that the 3 Musketeers whom had complete free reign to use tweaks and custom settings for there respected channels.
When you have no editors to answer to you can review something however you choose.
That was a terrible time in this community even though professional reviewers had even disclosed that while the Hardware was final pimax had stated the software still needed a lot of work and as we know while it is much better than those very early days it still not quite there for ease of use that some would prefer.
I recall being accused of being a close personal friend of at least 1 of those reviewers whom was an m1 tester whom his unit fried early during the closed beta.
Yes it was my first video of SIB and was quite shocking for me with his vulgar theatrics. As I even stated he had some valid points that could have been received better with keeping things cleaner. MrTV is often quite critical when needed but it is still respectful even though at times some might think otherwise.
That being said I was not part of the angry mob that likely went bananas on SiB; I only left my respectful comments on his 2nd video which did not dwell on his puberty obsession rant re: swappable lense.
MRTV is proving much more fair minded than I once thought. He doesn’t hesitate to ask tough questions or point out uncomfortable facts, but he does so in a professional way. His criticisms never seem like some kind of diatribe.
Bradley comes across as a bit juvenile and mean spirited.
That doesn’t mean he makes no good points. I think his second video was pretty spot on. It sure came across as a grudging admission though.
I’m ok with MRTV except on multiple occasions and multiple interviews, I’ve found he has a tendency to interrupt who he’s speaking with… To me that’s annoying.
If Bradley was upset by the negative reaction to his video maybe he should reconsider how he comes off as a reviewer. He is a public personality and his antics can and did garner criticism. Blowing it off as a bunch of “pimaxians” is childish. Apparently you have to “get” Bradley, Ok, well don’t be mad at the people who don’t. I cannot see him as anything other than a biased source regardless of the points he brought up and will no longer give his channel views.
Bradley can say what he likes imo. In the same way Pimax can say what they want at their roadshows. The truth is what I’m interested not comical or inappropriate comments.
A good product will sell itself. HTC has taken the flack for years for its last 3 HMDs, but now people are praising HTC for the Elite.
I’m sure if Crystal works out the kinks Pimax will become more respected in the VR space. But it’s ultimately down to Pimax to deliver.
VR is such a volatile technology it’s a bit like watching dinosaurs savage each other while evolution takes its course.
Moral of this story if there is any. Don’t be the savage. Be part of the evolution.
Note to self: Better carry some smelling salts with me, in case I come across some 18’th century ladies, or priests, who happen to hear something that might be construed as a mildly naughty word… EDIT: There seem to be a lot of these around, lately.
Welcome to the world of social media. If this had been a journalist of a „serious“ website, I would have agreed. But if I may suggest, take a look at youtubers in general: they often have a persona, a shtick, some kind of trademark behaviour, or as you call it „antics“. This is not a TV channel, and it doesn‘t work the way we older users may be familiar with. I know it takes getting used to such differences. But in this new world, before complaining about somebody who issues a review it unfortunately is necessary to perhaps check the general nature of the reviewers channel.
The users of Pimax headsets probably are in average rather older, hence they (we) responded to his review rather differently than users of other VR hardware he covers, apparently. Perhaps it would be wise for him though to not cover Pimax too much in future, perhaps somebody should suggest that in the comments section to his clips.
By the way, MRTV has featured him on his channel a couple of times as he is a good source of news about leaks on e.g. Meta‘s new headsets.
