People have talked about seeing a ripple effect at the present time. After many comparisons of PiTool 1.95 with 1.91 I am pretty sure that this effect is worse in Pitool 1.95.
I just compared Hellblade and in Pitool 1.91 I hardly see any effect at all but in 1.95 it is clearly present.
I would like to know if more people feel this way.
I posted earlier in another post on the pimax forums about a screen tear that’s there for a second and goes away. It splits the lenses with a line from top to bottom. But it’s only there for a second
I see it occasionally in loading areas. It seems performance based, as I’ve only seen while a game is loading or a save game is loading, for a second or two while the PC is chugging away at the hard drive. Perhaps its a slight sync issue between the two screens and we can see the difference on the edge of the overlap. I cannot compare to previous versions… Recently got my 5k+ and software is all current
It will be great if you make the public info of develop list to check that you already know the issue and what list are you doing, so we don’t have to report a lot of time and decrease your support in feedback system, some problem is not personal issue because a lot of one found same issue and should get the official announcement.
Im randomly getting the ripple effect(like water running down the middle of screens seems to be happening a lot with onward on 5kplus with latest pitool
Hi all, I received my 5K Plus a couple of days ago and I notice a ripple or tearing effect every few seconds, especially when moving my head from side to side (if you stay still it’s also there but it’s really difficult to notice). It’s a full vertical ripple on both eyes. I sent a video I captured on my phone to Pimax support team, but I would like to know if people on this thread are having the same effect, so please download the video and check it out.
I’ve included a JPG file highlighting the zone where the problem appears, so you know where to look when you see the video (it happens at second 3 approximately). It’s captured with my phone at 60 fps, I did my best but I think it’s not hard to see if you look carefully.
When I installed PiTool and connected the headset for the first time, it upgraded the app to a newer version (1.0.1.95) and it also flashed the HMD firmware (2.1.255.181)
I think this effects is due to the “non-parallel projection” that cut the image of each eye in two inclined protection planes.
When the FPS is low a number, the sync between this planes is bad an creates this effect.
Try to close every program that you have in second task. Or talk about your GPU to know if this is a performance issue. Try it with less SS or Pitool Number.
In my case it appears when I left in second task other apps, like Adobe Premiere.
I have tried it with both parallel projection enabled and disabled. Graphics card is a Titan X Pascal with 12 GB, so it should not have performace problems in a simple program like Pimax Home, that’s where I recorded the video. But it also happens in all the games I’ve tried so far: SteamVR Home, Skyrim VR and Elite Dangerous from SteamVR, and Beat Saber from Oculus Home… it’s always the same effect, every few seconds.
I just updated to PiTool 103 with BrainWarp and now the ripple effect is even worse! It’s not a ripple but a stuttering effect, I would say it happens at the same time interval that the ripple. Anyone else noticed it?
As you said, as soon as I uninstalled 0.103 and went back to 0.91 the problem goes away. It’s some kind of bug that the Pimax team must fix, I should not have to stay in this old version, there are more things beyond brightness control, Brainwarp is available now with 0.103.
