Many friends who are Pimax 8K backers send me their concern about the lack of news in this blog.
I think a regular feedback bulletin is needed indicating how progress is going, since you have almost 6000 people who do not have any feedback. Its necessary to not only keep folks informed; but also serves to keeps interest alive.
Details such as what is expected to be integrated in the following prototype, current fps of the screens, if Brainwarp will be used, if the controllers are still being studied, if it has already been decided which eye tracking or wireless systems will be used, when and where will take place the next demo, etc.
What advantage would there be to taking away from development time to write and translate weekly updates? I’d rather they do what they’ve been doing, update us when they actually make progress (I mean, the last three updates were November 5, November 13, November 22…why enforce a specific date for each update, even if nothing has changed in that time?)
Any development team starts the day with a state of things meeting, which should not take more than ten minutes. That someone who is not from the team listen to the recordings and publish a short summary on the blog would reassure more than one.
If there is not a newsletter, how do I find those updates you mention?
Since there is no newsletter, I do not know if they will release one or two prototypes by then, in seven weeks; I see it a little late, considering that the shipments of the definitive version supposedly would be very few weeks later.
@Cdaked
Is this the first time you’ve ever backed a kickstarter ? Your expectations and need for constant feedback seems rather high… It all seems rather…needy information wise, all of which are symptoms of the dreaded micromanager archetype…
I have already supported a couple of things before, but as I say, there are quite a few spanish backers who know that I follow the blog and they are always asking me news from the Pimax 8K. I prefer that Pimax answer them.
It would really be great to have some information from Pimax. I posted a couple of times requesting something similar, but the Pimax staff has ignored these questions or requests. Even if they do not have news, any information or position to be disclosed to backers, would be welcome. At least I’d like to have this information.
It would not have to be weekly, but in intervals of 15 days.
It was very disappointing to know that V4 should be available in the middle of December by a post on the KS page with the campaign already closed. They should have come here and released such information.
They said they would improve communication. But it is not happening.
how much of an update to proprietary design information did HTC give before they released? Or how about Oculus? Just because this is a kickstarter does not mean it’s open source. Let them alone to do their work.
I have pledged for Kickstarters that were extremely super communicative like you want, where in their forums they post notes on their daily stand-ups, they are constantly going back and forth with their pledgers, etc. However, that is very, very rare, and in the specific case I’m thinking of (Shroud of the Avatar), you had to pledge for a pretty high level to get access to those daily updates, and they used some of that money to cover the lost productivity of the employee writing those notes and posting them online. They also didn’t need to worry about translating it into a non-native language that could lead to miscommunication (and has in the past). That game also made that a clear part of their Kickstarter, that they were doing it in part to develop the game with the community’s help, which is not something Pimax did.
Also, I get the feeling that Pimax is a very small company, far smaller than you might think. As such they may not have daily 15 minute standups, because everyone already knows what everyone else is doing.
It should not be a nuisance for them, it would be enough that someone record the comments of the morning meetings and make a small weekly summary of the advances that could be of interest in the forum.
Just five minutes a week to someone who is not even part of the team.
If they are not able to do something so simple, that they should already be doing for development control, that would be worrisome.

So you are saying they should pay a brand new employee (someone not part of the team, as you say), who is perfectly fluent in multiple languages (they would have to be to take only 5 minutes), to post updates? Who ever with those qualifications would take a job where they work for only 20 minutes a week?
I mean that the employee does not have to be a super busy figure of the team, it is enough for a secretary to listen to a recording and make a short summary.
If the team is small, it would be enough for someone to comment on the changes, easier still.
Most companies that small don’t have anyone who isn’t super busy. Definitely not a secretary or anything like that, which would be a waste of money for a small startup (particularly one fluent in multiple languages…you keep forgetting, the company is in China, they speak, write, and post in Chinese…a couple employees speak English, but the ones we’ve seen are some that would be the most busy).
I just don’t think it’s a good idea to make a tiny company on a VERY restrictive time schedule regularly do pointless updates just to make a few people feel better, when it’s obvious they have chosen to give us updates when they make notable progress.
Go to the Kickstarter page, there is an “Updates” section.
