Well, that’s disappointing, as is the mura.
also has distortions too,the world moves at the edges wich is a impressive problem to have for just 100fov fresnel lenses, gotta give some props to pimax cause optically the 8kx is impecable in comparision.
That bad huh?
yeah im kinda regretting it,for that cash i could have ordered that bigscreen micro oled instead
its not all bad, the headseat rumble adds immersion, the eyetracking is perfect the colors and blacks are great… the tracking better then i expected…And plug and play…
But the mura and a little bluriness is a big let down for me…
It would be great to hear @Djonko 's impressions as well. How are the controllers with the new type of feedback? or have not many games yet taken advantage of it yet?
The feedback on the controllers i realy love and also the rumble on the headset is realy nice.
That is great to hear we have sime real innovation happening. Perhaps once games are untethered from Valve’s OpenVR we might see some innovation hit pcvr instead of being half works due to Valve’s control of things.
Though for pimax to be apary of that like @mbucchia has stated pimax needs to stop dragging there heels and work on making there OpenXR driver to do away with needing things like Opencompensite as a workaround extra layer etc…
Were fortunate to have someone like him trying to help pimax. Though like @arminelec they might not be giving the proper level of appreciation and support deserved.
Honestly this is a big concern if Pimax doesn’t get ahead of this and waits til everyone is on board with OpenXR. It will hinder there growth save in Standalone Android mode.
To be very clear here, OpenComposite isn’t trying to solve a problem that is Pimax’s fault. It is the responsibility of applications developers to move away from OpenVR and start using OpenXR (which is what you were saying in the first part of your message). We saw good momentum in 2022 with apps like iRacing, Bonelab, Hubris and more recently DCS going OpenXR. Hopefully this continues. X-Plane announced they are boarding the train too, and I know more behind the scenes as well.
So again: even with Pimax writing their own native (non-SteamVR) OpenXR runtime (which is what PimaxXR is), that won’t change that popular games like Assetto Corsa, Automobilista, etc will still use SteamVR because these applications speak OpenVR only. Even with a Pimax OpenXR runtime, you still need to use OpenComposite for these applications if you wanted to remove SteamVR. Unless the developers of these popular apps are going to patch them (unlikely?), I don’t think you will see OpenComposite disappear soon.
I’m sure not – I recall how annoying that static dense “starfield” of pinpricks of light was in the HTC Vive and Rift CV1, but that does not diminish my missing the brightness (EDIT: …and darkness), and colours of the Vive. :7
its not all bad the games are great ignoring the ghosting, for eg re8 is an amazing port from a flat game and gt7 is also good albeit alot of grinding on the same exact track for 1 single cool car.
Seems like it varies pretty wildly between units.
Funny Sebastian mocks users complaining about mura when Thrillseeker claims its a major problem
It’s all just opinions. Hype takes over for some reviewers
Just received my unit so will report back ASAP. No B/S
Welk it seems the quality between units can vary by quite a bit it seems. So it is possible Seb’s unit’s mura might not be as severe as Thrillseeker’s. Or simply subjectively one is bothered by it more than the other. Too many factors to know for sure.
Plus as another member here mentions they ordered a 2nd unit as the first was fairly bothersome but found after having the first one for awhile that the mura was not bothering him as it was when he first got it. He is adapting to seeing it less much like how vr sickness for many became less after getting one’s legs.
I don’t doubt the reports but there is evidence thay suggests the level of mura varies between units. Which suggests poor quality control.
Okay just read @acegamer it maybe more a sensitivity to the effect vs qa variance.
Okay tried out the new headset and the mura is basically the same. If there is any difference it is so minor that I couldn’t tell. As I noted in my earlier post the mura isn’t bothering me anymore so I’m ok with it being the same. I checked out Horizon and RE8 and couldn’t tell any noticeable difference. I think I’ve grown accustomed to it because I couldn’t see it as easily on either headset as I recall seeing it on my first day using it. Of course this is only a comparison between two units so it’s still not impossible for there to be differences in units but I suspect that the difference would be really minor if there at all. I don’t think it would be worth returning it for a different headset if you are really bothered by it to the point that you don’t find the headset enjoyable. I would just give it the 30 days that you have for a return window and see if you can adjust to it
Turns out PSVR2 is pentile btw, that was very surprising. Kinda weird to go from RGB strip and aspheric to Fresnel and pentile. Seems like most are totally happy with it though, I guess it explains the need for that diffusion layer to hide the SDE.
Personally, I think at that resolution you’d get away without the diffusion layer and be better with a sharper image but I do think sony are pretty smart overall in their hardware design so I’d assume they know better.
Definitely. I wonder if ppl will start saying that the resolution is not as advertised being pentile as has happened in the past with Pentile and when LG had was it RGBW panels in some 4k TVs that were called “fake 4k”.
Ever Display in iirc 2015 demoed a 4k pentile 6" panel that was promising but never went beyond the ces? demo.
