Prescription glasses?

As you said, it doesnt have any arm AND ipd can be adjusted manually, QED.
After all it’s your money, not mine (I won’t throw it for nothing). Do what you want.

YOUR ipd doesnt change, the lens adaptors wont move with the main lenses so as long as the prescription lenses are made to YOUR ipd then thats not an issue.

I’m not going to be using the lens insert because I have no issues using glasses. I’m just pointing out that all of these imaginary issues you are trying to create don’t exist - just take the insert to your opticians and talk it through with them. I’ve already contacted a couple of online places and they were happy to do it if I supply them the insert and give them my prescription details and IPD (which again you can get from your local optician)

There’s no way pimax are going to be able to manage doing bespoke lenses and sending them out in any sort of acceptable time frame given everything else they’ve managed to mess up so its completely pointless trying to involve them in this process.

These “imaginary” issues exist and I know them too well.
I was one of the first vrlenslab customer and I had to send back their lenses twice because of fisheye distortion. The only difference between their lenses and regular lenses is reverse curve (needed if you don’t want to scratch).
I don’t want to be a beta tester for this kind of product.

I know what Pimax is capable of, that’s why I said the best solution is a third party company.

AFIK VR Optician said they would not produce frames for Pimax because Pimax will be producing their own frames, but they would produce lenses for Pimax when the frames become available. Well now the frames are available.

I agree with you that the lenses are fitted according to the IPD. But the optician needs to know the correct vertical placement which may not be obvious from the frame and difficult to measure (guess). So some input from Pimax is needed.

The other issue can be if the holes in the frame insert are too big there won’t be big enough prescription lenses available. So there are potential issues and taking the Pimax response so far, I am not sure they are aware of them.

Perhaps a simpler way to explain the issue with taking the lense adapters to an optician is that normally they fit the position of the lenses to your face because you are wearing the frames and lenses. However, in this case the Pimax headset is actually “wearing” the frames and lenses. Because of this the prescription lenses have to be fitted to the headset. Sure they still need to match the strength you need for your eyes, but the position has to fit the Pimax lenses.

Nope, they need to be fitted to your IPD, if they fit them to the headset then they won’t match your ipd.

@Ortac Yes, that’s what they told me a few months ago when I studied this problem for the Pimax contest.

@nphage Right! In the case of the Pimax lens adapter, prescription lenses must NOT be made to be fitted to your IPD but to be fitted to the sweetspot. The reason is simple: you move the lenses to fit to your IPD.

Are you aware that the lense frames for the Pimax are separate pieces? One for each eye. They can’t really be fitted for your IPD. As Korgen has been arguing the lenses need to match the sweet spot of the Pimax. When you adjust the IPD of the Pimax to your IPD the prescription lenses should also match you IPD.

Ok, thats messed up, all the images I’d seen show it as one piece, like a pair of glasses.

It should still just be a case of providing ipd though and measuring the distance between the adaptors when the headset is set to your ipd. If you don’t feel confident doing this yourself then again your opticians should have a set of digital calipers, its not rocket science.

They do still need to be matched to your IPD though, trying to match them to what you think the sweet spot of the headset is will lead to more distortion and blur than we are already getting.

Pimax needs to coordinate with 1 or more prescription VR lens vendors and provide whatever details are needed (like focal distance to lenses, IPD alignment details, etc.) to ensure a proper result. Prescription lenses which aren’t installed correctly would be an expensive mistake.

@SweViver @PimaxUSA @Matthew.Xu @PimaxVR: Will someone please get the process started? Thanks!

Can’t agree more.

I think I know what you mean, you think everyone can watch anywhere through prescription lenses, right? It highly depends on prescriptions and vision disorders.

maybe you could try this method that I use for my reading lens ,
I removed the arms from a rimless pair of glasses , turned them round so that the concave was towards the pimax lens , and bent the bridge out slightly to match the cantor of the pimax.
some slithers of slightly rolled double sided tape hold them firmly in place.
You can hardly notice the tape when wearing the headset
The effect is like a large clear focused area covering about 80% of the view only a bit at the top and bottom are still blurry like very good ffr .
works well for reading glasses

Hi, is there any update on this? Has anyone tried printing the prescription lens adapter and having custom lenses made for it? When Oculus released the Go they partnered with a VR lens manufacturer so that they would have lenses available for sale on day 1. Printable lens holders for earlier headsets were designed to match specific glasses already sold in online stores, so you could order those glasses and swap out the lenses, but of course that’s not the case with the huge Pimax lenses.

The source of lenses wasn’t mentioned in Pimax Day 1 or 2, just the frame.

I was going to start a thread for this. Thanks for doing this. @PimaxUSA please provide a link to what lenses i need to fit this. Hopefully zenni.com — I already have my script on file with them after ordering glass for a 3D printed rift adapter. Thanks!

Im aslo waiting for this.

I guess the more important question is…when will the prescription lens adapter be uploaded to Thingiverse? As far as I can tell the link we were given doesn’t work.

Haha I just ordered a Prusa Mini as my first printer. I don’t think I’ll be seeing it show up for a few months! I’m going to have pimax print these and ship them. I just need to know what to do about the actual lenses!

Im sure someone from here will mod it to fit a certain type of lenses we can get from a site. Just look at this one for example. You just need to buy the lenses from vrlab.
