In fact, on most 4 RAM slot mobos, if you only use 2 sticks, the manufacturer recommends to use slot 2 and 4 and not 1 and 3 because some reason I never understood. Always been using slot 2 and 4. In my current Z370 Taichi I use 2x16Gb, in slot 2 and 4 as recommended

But ram speed quite different 1333 vs 1866. But I do recall an Article explaining higher hz doesn’t necessarily mean faster depending on application. Latency if mem serves was lower on the 1333 G skill.

A good way to compare effective RAM speed is frequency divided by latency.

For example:
F: 1333
L: 14
F/L = 95

F: 1866
L: 19
F/L = 98

So the 1866 RAM would be slightly faster in this case.
