Would love that firmware too, to have the best chance when trying with Studio drivers
Did they finally release the closed beta Firmware for the 8kX?
Really made no sense not releasing this beta firmware after we have tested so many. And the fact people are more than willing to test it.
afaik no, they didnt
Agreed too, I asked to @PimaxUSA to share the firmware to test it but I did not received any answer.
@PimaxQuorra @PimaxUSA can you hook Teigue up with the beta 8kX 90hz firmware please.
That’s terrible since he said he would provide it for those whom wanted to test it out.
Honestly no reason to hold back these test firmwares as long as there labeled as test releases.
They could even as suggested have an Opt In option in pitool and simply make Even Firmware releases Stable and Odd numbers betas.
Then notify ppl when a a firmware is available with appropriate label. Add a Roll back option and be done.
Maybe they prefer testers from china to make the replacement easier in the event of a hardware defect.
Anything is possible with alpha test firmware.
Firmware bricking on pimax hasn’t happened yet on a bad flash.
If it was a concern they wouldn’t have sent so many ppl the firmware and offered it to folks by request. Majority of software releases from pimax has been beta. So no not an issue with perma bricking from a flash.
Just inconsistent releases strategies.
It’s not about bricking. With Alphas it can happen, for example, that displays are run over and become defective if the tester does not know what he is doing. As I understood Kevin, the internal alpha intervenes in more parameters than usual.
it is not certain that said alpha is the version already shipped, is it?
I can tell You for sure that there are testers of various Pimax *ware outside of China…
I hope nobody does that as being part of a closed beta group kinda implies not to share that beta or information about it openly IMO.
It’s just a thought. Often some people here call for every internal version who have no idea of the matter. Then the whining starts again when something goes wrong. In this respect, I don’t see a problem in there if not everyone gets everything.
Exactly…
If You want to test beta firmware (or whatever) let @PimaxUSA know and he might loop You in but keep in mind that there’s a reason for it being beta (or alpha for that matter)…
Except it is not really a closed beta. As they have given it to a very wide variety of folks and even said if you want to test it; we’ll give it to you.
So not really closed at all.
Engineers wanted me to limit the testers this time around to a small number.
I’ve pushed the limits of that considerably and added 15 testers from openmr with only 1 of them is located in china. The team had an existing subset of testers located in china already.
Sorry, but no more test openings at the moment for this firmware round.
To have a good chance at testing you would need to respond very quickly, have the appropriate hardware and be willing to provide detailed reports on your experience.
Except it is simply a beta. Kevin said himself it was to be released along with 271. But the engineers held it back and then gave it out to just about anyone whom asked.
Generally just about all pimax’s releases have been betas. With a few internal builds released that could be called a pre public beta that was released publicly.
No pimax headset to date has had any real issues with firmware flashing. If you recall some had weird flashes that labeled a 5k+ as an 8k. And a user deliberately flashed an Artisan with a 5k+ firmware unlocking the rest of the unused Qhd panel’s FoV. But was unstable due to not matching a legit 5k’s display panel. So he reflashed it with an Artisan Firmware.
This is where pimax really shines is there firmware system vs companies like Nvidia and Amd whom can brick a gpu for looking at it funny.
(Odd have heard personally of 5 recent ppl getting the firmware from pimax)
Unless it’s open, it’s closed…
EDIT: I agree about it generally not causing problems but it’s their call.
then gave it out to just about anyone whom asked.
Not in this case. Only a couple of people here received it in advance and were asked to test very specific issues. I suggested to our firmware team we needed more feedback and since these are internal builds (not betas) were very wary of expanding the pool too much.
The tester base here on openmr here have expanded but limited to a small group with the right hardware and who are willing to provide detailed feedback.
So you are aware Quorra was also giving this firmware link to folks and that several folks on Reddit were also given this firmware from support prior to your post and Quorra’s about being able to test this firmware and no one mentioned a limited number of spots for testing.
But let’s not continue this as it will lead nowhere save to show numbers are off.
So you are aware Quorra
Indeed, I have the list and have been gathering the various feedback.
The person on reddit (who is also here) was asked by the team to remove the link to it and kill the thread - which he did for the very reasons I described. These are internal builds not betas.
