I am using the same mods except for the counterweight. I should add that!
Good tips thanks. My current fix is too crude. I’ve wrapped a couple of small rechargeable battery packs in a soft cloth bag and attached it with straps to the back. Too much wiggle room if I suddenly turn
I’d definitely recommend trying something - for me, even with my poor DIY solution, it takes a lot of pressure off my nose and cheeks and makes it much more comfortable I just need something that is fixed in place more professionally
I resisted going counterweight route, but now that I tried it I like it, just hoping it won’t add much neck stress. I ended up replacing batteries with 7 big bolts, so now my “design” is safer (no acid involved).
Could use a Battery Bank or 2 for controllers.
I use one of these bad boys. 1lb but I don’t feel like it is too much. It is the same as what I used to use on my Vive. I just zip tied it to the back of the DAS.
Actually, it should reduce the stress. The weight is bearing straight down, so your vertebrae are supporting the weight, rather than the muscles on the back of your neck.
thanks, that’s comforting to know Neal.
Here is a slightly cheaper version of the 1lb weights if you don’t mind pink fabric
Just thought I’d share something for people with motion systems.
While Neal is right, counterweight makes more balanced pressure downwards, in my experience with motion added weight is felt, because it acts a bit like leverage. So I wanted to find smallest weight that’d do the job.
What I found that 210g counterweight is enough to keep HMD off my nose. In fact, at least with my shape of head, perfect balance is somewhere between 180g and 210g, because with 210g HMD tends to slide up my face. Note: I do not use Apache comfort mod, as it does not work well for me.
In any case, thanks for coming up with this improvement, counterweight made 5K+ just great for me, and nose discomfort is gone completely!
I’m glad I was able to help.
You might want to tweak the vertical offsets in PiTool, if your headset is now tilting upwards. I found +5.5 (left eye) and +8.0 (right) to be ideal for my face shape. I think it needs to be increased to counteract the shift in headset position. I found I was able to improve the 3D effect noticeably by adjusting each eye separately.
I recommend starting the settings out with the same values, then closing one eye and then the other, to find the best setting for you.
Caution: I discovered that, in real life, my vision doesn’t quite line up, which I do occasionally notice. On the other hand, in VR the 3D effect is better than in RL.
@Heliosurge Can we please get a link tothis topic under the heading comfort mods in the pinned banner topic? Cheers
