Pimp-My-Pimax - The most comfortable headset in the world

Velcro, as in pictures

I used the Velcro loop that Pimax included, to keep the cable coiled for shipment to hold my DIY counterbalance in place. (I just taped 2 smallish steel wrenches together, of about half the weight of the headset itself - 11.1 oz. / 312 g.).

I just filled a large pill container with about 6oz of screws and nuts, stuck it in a felt bag and Velcro tied it to the back strap for a counter weight.

The facepad is listed as 12mm, but you state 18mm?

Hi Morselli. Could you update the direct link for our DAS comfort strap. Discount with coupon PIMAXPROMO https://www.studioformcreative.com/product-page/apache-das-strap

Pro tip. The Apache DAS strap also works with the Valve Index https://www.reddit.com/r/ValveIndex/comments/cwch52/review_apache_das_strap_a_comfort_mod_for_the/

Pimax shipped 3 different facepad thicknesses. Mine is 14mm, which I thickened along the top edge (only) by inserting a piece of double-sided Velcro between the facepad and the housing.

Bumped your user level up to Regular.

If your unable to edit post still might be too old to edit.

If so poke me with link to post & what needs to be edited. Anyone with Leader Level should be able to edit post.

Ah just read @neal_white_iii updated links. Still give it a check.

Hi, thanks for sharing this.
Mengs Set is out of stock on amazon, could you confirm that this is same set?

One thing I am confuseds is your scale shows 364g, but website specifies 250g. Cheers!
PS: if anyone has any similar suggestions, please share your links

yes, is the same, but I combined the pieces of two sets to gain more weight

Looks like two D size batteries roughly do the trick. This starts to remind wearing a cevlar helmet, man where is this hobby taking me.

These might leak out acid one day…so watch out…

Thank you that slipped my mind, back to searching for a solution.

How much weight does everyone use for counterweights? I see @mmorselli uses 364g, but I guess the DAS and other parts make it heavier?

As the original Amazon UK counterweights listed above are not available, I guess a combination of these will work, depending on weight requirements:

200g + 100g: https://www.amazon.co.uk/SMALLRIG-Removable-Counterweight-Compatible-Zhiyun/dp/B07PLXXG59/ref=sr_1_2

60g counterweight: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Universal-Removable-Counterweight-Anamorphic-Stabilizer/dp/B07GGQB4HY/ref=sr_1_11

I need a better cw solution than I have, and I don’t think Pimax will release one. And even if they announced that they would, it would take 5 years before we see anything released :grinning:

And as it seems the original foam handlebar grips have gone up 6x in price, here’s another set that can be cut down to size. I would hope, being foam, that it is flexible enough to accommodate different counterweights:

“Dimensions: Outer diameter:33mm//Inner diameter:21mm//Length:500mm//Thickness:6mm;allowed 0.1-1mm error”

My DIY (ugly) counterweight seems about right at 312 g (11.1 oz). That’s about half the weight of the headset itself. It’s a good solution; it keeps the weight off of my nose and cheeks.

Thanks Neal, good to know. As I have the cloth headstrap I guess I need about the same, but I’d like to keep some extra weight handy in case of heavier new accessories :+1:

I am also using the cloth headstrap. It works fine with a counterweight, but make sure you attach it using a fairly wide strap (or 2 which could be more narrow). If you just use a cord, it will cause the back strap to curl up (and you want to keep it flat, for comfort). I used the Velcro strap that held the Pimax cable in a coil for shipping.
