Pimax Sept 16 News Update Speculation

@Sjef I’m curious what information did you reconcile to reach that conclusion? Fingers crossed you’re right that would be great news

Reduced Distortions. But this could also simply mean better lens placement making distortion profiling work better on existing lens design. Or new lenses. If new lenses & frame not changed for placement; than lens upgrade is possible.

As a member has already replaced a Display panel he purchased from pimax (after breaking his) in a diy deal. We may also see option to diy upgrade panel upgrade purchase option & for the squeamish a send in purchasable upgrade.

DIY upgrade paths would be great when the Pimax 8KX+ XR (RGB OLED @ 3840x2160 Native) inevitably comes out in a couple years, but I still think Pimax should sell replacement lenses for people who have scratched their lenses with glasses (or even with eyelashes, not that hard to do very hard to fix).

It could cause a lot of RMA problems with people who try and fail to modify though.
Would attempting a diy upgrade/replacement part void your warranty? Depends where you live and whether right to repair laws fly in your country or not I’d assume.

What’s Pimax policy on attempting repairs and warranty? does it void warranty if the product would otherwise be in warranty, and a repair is attempted?

I wonder where Septembers PiTool update is. I wonder if this announcement will coincide with that.

I am desperately hoping for a massive improvement in the software.

well i paid an extra $100 for the kickstarter and they owe me $100 for switching to 8K, so if this is the news there better be a reasonable upgrade path for us.

Difficult to say on Warranty with different places having different requirements. Plus what affects is how you buy a product? Is it say sold in Canada or a person buying off a foreign site & importing it.

Now pimax has sent users replacement lenses. So as a guess by what is known at least minor changes like diy changing one’s own lenses appears to be “ok” atm. But this may change & more risky swap outs might not get coverage if you botch the repair on a diy.

In the past with their original p4k model they have been extra odinary at times with helping customers with replacement parts for Diy fixes.

Here’s my I hope I’m wrong but I know Pimax too well Speculation.

We will only have news about the 16th on the 20th or later.

I can’t wait for an announcement on accessories delivery schedule
If a new Pimax headset would get announced that would make the 5K+ obsolete, I really hope we can trade it in for nearly no cost and get the new device…

Well there was an announcement that there will be an announcement of a possible delivery schedule announcement later on

Don’t be so cynical guys we all know it’s pure coincidence and these delays are out of Pimaxes control. Wether it’s third party delays, Chinese New Year, or your annual F5 Hurricane it’s not their fault.

Who am I kidding Pimax still has Alien invasion, Asteroid annihilation or Brexit in the tank.

Indeed Natural Disasters are understandable. 3rdparty mishaps due to poorly laid out contracts is 50/50 and while unfortunate a good lesson to learn – Don’t use good faith in Business deals.

But it happens more often than most are aware of. One company I worked for; a manager made the mistake of saying lowering peice work was ok as they needed to save money somewhere. Where it was poorly laid contracting; they didn’t have it in place to lower costs of Raw materials & supplier upped the cost. Where norm is lowered cost on next contracted batch. No wonder he was later demoted from Op manager to plant manager.

Festivals are more something that can be controlled but target dates can still be missed. Festivals though in que; target dates should be given wider estimates to allow better potential to meet or possibly deliver early.

But I think if the Vulcans arrive it will help tech advance unless there as snooty as Star Trek ones. :beers::sunglasses::+1::sparkles:

In order not to deflate the “hype” of the ever-fluctuating “pimax day festivities” they don’t want to publish here on the 16th in simple bullet points the various (already set) “reveals” …just suffice to say that those announcements have been delayed by the hurricane? Not sure if I’m being clear, just trying to understand the logic of it all.

Good idea, release basic bullet points on the 16th and do the presentation later with more detail.

Pimax NA is hosting & organizing this anouncement event; so with being on the East coast is affected by Dorian. But hopefully the delay will only be a few days(2-3).

They could likely leak some things on time but if doing live hosting & such better to wait a short delay.

Sure they could do bullet points if very clear to avoid misinterpetation of vaguely laid out info.

we know that even on “pimax day” everything will be scrutinized, reverse engineered, and the potential to be misinterpreted by some in certain nuances. No matter when or to what complexity things are announced, there wil always be wiggle room for misinterpretation but at least with bullet points we would know for example:

  • controllers/basestation will ship by X date.
