Pimax makes Beat Saber more fun to play

In some way, yes, but I’d put it in another way:

Sharper means we have more effective information. In some games we need the extra information for judgement: dials, targets, traffic signs, and 5K+ wins.

Yet in other cases we don’t rely that much on those extreme details. Manga and Anime are typical examples. The overal feel, layout, and coherence are of more importance, and 8K wins.

Porns for example. One sharp but blocky image, one softer but smoother image, what will you choose?

4k at 60hz native might not be possible due to the bridgechip; but the bridgechip info is kinda basic. Ie 4k at 90hz (1 screen) 1440px2 at 90hz (2 screen)

Analogix doesn’t go into further specs at least not in the open.

Agreed folks often really don’t understand pimax’s size. With this project will be a game changer for them as well & they will gain the resources needed to improve other areas of the company.

But this requires time & understanding. @yanfeng while I can understand these things. It might be an idea to help folks understand the team’s size in numbers, empathizing Team does not include the manufacturing firm commissioned to manufacture the headsets.

Would you say the 8K looks sharp? (Not compared to the 5K but as a standalone if you hadn’t seen anything else?)

I work with video a lot and I hate working with upscaled footage even though I know the average person would never notice anything was wrong. I’m a bit of a pixel peeper.

Or neither. I found with testing Ghosting on the p4k (yes it’s bad compared to most) that at times I started to exaggerate nature head movements making it of course more pronounced.

Testing often makes you look harder.

If I can still play games and enjoy them very much despite the slight smoothness of the 8K, then I will go for the 8K, because I will not use it only for gaming and I hate SDE.

But if the world moves with my head movements like @mixedrealityTV described the 8K then I will go with 5K+. Strangely he’s the only one reporting this, but he is very strong on his position about it and this worries me.

I am too; that’s my main reason for getting a 5/8K. @SweViver said that ED looks good on an 8K (even the small text). The orange text is actually better on the 8K. The black levels are fairly similar, but slightly better on a 8K.

Since both @yanfeng & @knob2001 both have just 1080 it might be an idea to compare nvidia panel settings with pitool & steam for better optimization

@mixedrealityTV means well. But imho at times too pushy with his viewpoints.

He was impressed by StarVR One, saying there is no distortion whatsoever, and roadtovr said the same thing. He also says the 5K+ does not move the world like he’s 8K does.

Yes 8K is sharp if I havn’t seen any other headsets. If you want a reference, it is noticeably sharper than Rift and Vive. That’s for sure, and it has to, otherwise there is no sense for its existence.

Thanks for this! (Although it’s made my decision harder!) Since all the talk of how sharp the 5K is over the last few weeks I’ve slowly developed a mental image of the 8K being slightly blurry whenever I think about it. I’m really happy to heard it’s sharper than Rift and Vive.

Its sharper than lenovo explorer? i have one and i hope pimax 8k its the next step even with the distortions. i hope to that the sweet spot its bigger because in the lenovo its horrible, even smaller than gear vr…

I have spoken to all the people who have been testing Oscar’s Pimax 5K+ and no one agrees that the deformations, especially those of the “world movement” effect, were tolerable.
Are you using the latest version, 76? Could it happen that when using a nVidia 1080 Pitools didn’t have time to end all the corrections through software, @Sean.Huang?

You could run a test on that by lowering the SS demand to silly levels and see if the issue is still there?

I don’t have Lenovo but I have an Odyssey. 8K is sharper than Odyssey, but only by a small margin. It’s SDE is much smaller than Odyssey.

The “moving with the world” effect used to be intolerable on M1, but M2 has improved on that greatly. It’s tolerable for me now.

I don’t know if they have tried it, it’s a good idea if they have not done it yet. But they’ve had problems installing the 74C version of Berlin, to see if it worked better, and now are talking to Pimax to correct them.

Thanks for this yanfeng. This one post has confirmed all I need to know because I have an Odyssey and I now expect either the 5K+ or the 8K are an improvement in clarity.

For comparison would you say the SDE of the 5K+ is better than that of the Odyssey.? Your answer would help me greatly in deciding if I go for the 8K or the 5K+.

I would also like to know how the 5K+ compares with the Odyssey. I find the SDE on the Odyssey is still distracting in most content, is the 5K+ still noticeable like that?
