Pimax is officially the most expensive VR Headset. Congrats?!

And serious simracing…where dynamic 3-4 DOF platforms costs many thousands of dollars/euro , but even so, some people make investments and purchase these.

Will you paste some through the lense photos for us Today ?
Thank you

I think Sweviver replied already. He’s in Florida at Pimax, it’s going to take a while but he’ll do it.

Are we going to see an improvement in glare, and the reflection of the fresnel rings?

This part is very important if they manage to improve it, in HP you don’t appreciate the hoops and in the multimedia content there is no glare rings contamination, this can be a decisive improvement for me if you can improve it…

For 8K-X do we need even higher end pcs to run it or will it run same as 5k+ 8k ?

It’s in his Tag. Lol

No trade in program exists for older headsets as their parts are reuseable, while 5k & 8k parts are not usable. PimaxUSA ™

Xtal is let’s not forget that. & had released Hero 1 & 2 prior at high pricepoints.

Acer still hints may release StarVR One :joy:

Samsung should come up with something in 2-3 weeks… My hopes are with them

I will always be grateful they took on full fov. This really hit home for me. No other company wanted to give this to consumers. And it’s exactly what I would of done too. Now we just need to solve the bandwidth issue to get full fov 120hz/120fps on 5k+. Maybe a special cable plus a few tricks to shave off bandwidth data? @PimaxUSA

Dont forget solving the lack of GPU power at that FPS.

Displayport 1.4 with DSC is already capable of 5K @120 Hz and up to 8K , not sure if they plan to use it or already made it compatible, and these cables are very expensive in any case, as the new 10 meter cable price clearly shows.

I think the best way to go is going straight to the road to optical Thunderbolt-3/USB combo using some type of external hub, like the solution adopted by Varjo for their VR-1 , but such a solution could require no small investments and final price of the headset could be heavily affected.

You make it seem like XTAL or StarVR don’t exist (well VodooDE says StarVR does exist).

Hehe… Agreed but only technically does og StarVR exist as One is hiatus on whether going to be released. And as we know StarVR One drop Res considerably to hit 90hz & suposedly spread such a low res even Wider than pimax.

The 5k+ still exists. Pointing to the highest end product and saying that it refects on the entire Pimax business plan is narrow sighted (no intended pun on ither headsets). Plus there may still be headsets aimed at the lower end market that Pimax is considering.

Pavlov will run so this would be ideal to have without losing the fov which is good for shooters

For me the problem isn’t the price. Any company can choose to set their prices based on their internal metrics and business models. That’s their choice.

As a consumer and current customer, my concerns with Pimax are 3 fold:

  • Build quality. I’m still hesitant to RMA my 5k+ because I can’t get a clear indication if it’ll come back with revisions they’ve made or more of the same. There hasn’t been enough time for Pimax to put their build quality concerns into the past which would give consumers confidence

  • Customer service. It’s a wildcard to say the least. Communications are all over the place and the way they handled the latest issue with the weather delays tells me there is a long way to go. As a customer, I don’t even have an email from Pimax informing me that there was going to be A: an event and B: if I missed the event, here is a recap and roadmap.

  • Refined software. New PiTools versions are generally a trade off. Here’s something new but this might no longer work as it used to. This again deteriorates confidence for the consumer. Consumers don’t care if the software is closed or open source. They care that it works as intended and if issues arise with an update, they’re addressed in a timely manner

The enthusiast in me is very excited and cheers Pimax for moving the ball forward in a significant way. As a customer, most of that enthusiasm is dampened by the points above.

I’d love nothing more than to make a post on here in a few months that:

  • My RMA process was smooth and my new unit works great with the improved updates
  • The next version of PiTools seem well refined and consistent across many use cases
  • I was kept informed on Pimax happenings without needing to dig through posts and tribal knowledge

I hope that happens. I really do.

@PimaxUSA I hope that gives some perspective on how a current customer views Pimax at the time of this writing.

On pricing as an example when you walk into Walmart and look at pretty much any item for sale they have low, medium and high options. Sometimes they have even more tiers than the primary 3.

But pencils as an item you might see one there for .35cents, a much nicer one for $1 and an awesome mechanical one for $5.

For the “Prosumer” market we would fall into the mid range, high range and the business use range.

I’m sure it’s not fair to characterize a company based on a single range of offerings. I’ve often felt that the offering model used by intel years ago was a wise one. They would push on the high end and slide the sku’s down creating lower price points over time.

@PimaxUSA Are we still looking at just DP+usb A?

Is a single usbC connector or adapter something we might see?
