Even so, VR is cheaper than a lot of hobbies. Boating, golf, skiing, scuba, etc. can be a lot more expensive. I spent more just on my HOTAS setup, than I did on my 8K (as a backer) and I spent twice that on my bicycle. Not bragging; just trying to put things into perspective.
@generic Its simply not just another VR headset. Hence the price. Its an 8KX. If you ever tried it you would have understood. I hope u will get a chance to do so at VR Days for example. Until then, there’s no point arguing about it.
Like I said Im not knocking it. I am an 8KX backer and I want nothing more than to try it and be mindblown. Just looking at it from the usual casual consumer POV.
Well thing is, its an enthusiast product of course. People play Rift S and enjoy it. Thats the regular consumer. The ones who want a higher fidelity, like u and me, simply saves up more money and goes the more expensive path
Luckily its not a Bentley after all. The one no one can afford…
Looking forward to your comparisons of new pimax vs old. Especially sharpness and clarity. This for me will be the deciding factor to upgrade or not.
Also given the high(er) price of the eye tracker and hand tracker, what are the practical implementations for these two gadgets. What can we use it on? Is there any software that is already utilizing these in the works or those going to be remain a niche for quite some time.
Yes! Here’s the trade in program. https://pimaxvr.com/pages/tradeup The coupons only last 3 months after you trade in, so make sure that you trade them in later once the 8k X is available for purchase.
Honestly I got impression that consumers are not their target anymore, 2000-3000 price range is really too much. From the presentation it seems they have contracts with military, business/VR parks, in future I think schools/education will be added. They realised they can’t compete on consumer market and switched to business, which some people guessed Q4 last year already, now it is more or less official.
If one spends 2000+ for consumer product like this one would at the very least expect for it to work out of the box. Which I don’t think will be possible with Pimax (due canted displays - parallel projections, bypassing steam drivers etc.).
On their part it is smart move and ensures their survival. But for us it is not great news as it is no real pressure on Vive/Rift/WMR headsets and most of us would not be willing to spend so much on just VR kit (even if we can afford it).
Nobody has high FOV, native 4k, variable FOV, or variable refresh rate, (other than Index.) Its awesome that this company has pushed VR forward like this.
