Once software and features work - so you’re talking 2024. Hopefully they’ll have sorted it out till then.
I fear the form factor is the one thing Pimax isn’t likely to change: the COO told me during the road show stop at MRTV’s headquarter that they were going to look at spin-offs with less than the full feature set for a cheaper price, but that would effectively be an approach of just leaving components out - that means no redesign of other components and housing is needed, which keeps the R&D cost down. An overhaul of the housing would cause a lot of work possibly affecting other components which are supposed to remain. Not going to happen; look at Pimax’ history with the Vision series, they created a range of spin-offs all sharing the same housing.
If they change the form factor, it is because they are going pancake & smaller displays.
They need a competent SoC for signal processing, which is why they are using the XR2 in tethered mode too, which causes the battery drainage while tethered.
The COO explicitly called out my assumption that they could get rid of it stating that if they would remove the XR2, they‘d need to replace it with another SoC. So it comes down to the balance of reduced cost of SoC unit vs. extra R&D effort.
As far as I know, the 8KX offers only Foveated Rendering. I’ve never used it. There is no dynamic foveated rendering to my knowledge. Did you use an add-on piece of software/hardware? Interesting.
For me, if seems that the polling frequency and updates of eye moment needs to be sped up and there needs to be some finer adjustment the user can make regarding how big the focal circle is, and the level of focal diffusion the further away from the outer edge of the circle.
Not sure Tobii and ET for PIMAX has this ability or not.
No, since my first 8k (jan2019) nothing less than 125h has been an option for me. I’m only following the Crystal because it’s the test kit for the 12k.
Well it sounds like there getting things in order. Moving forward pimax has said deliveries will ship out with the glass 35ppd lenses and not the temporary poly ones. Along with pre orders will get the fiber cable.
ET looks like it will likely be enabled before end of June. Now will have to see what all ET features ready, but looks like dfr might be in that mix.
Standalone is as far as I have seen should be ready end of june.
Which primarily just leaves wifi 6e.
But yes a big decision as still waiting on progress in 42ppd lenses.
They already stated that is what is happening and they are verifying stock to ensure that is what is sent. So aside from the update posted it would be considered “verified”.
However if they happen to have a plastic set sent you will receive the glass ones without extra cost. One mild benefit is if you damage your glass lenses you have a temp option while waiting for new ones
Vrflightsim Guy recomments getting a set of lenses from VR Rock. Even if do not wear glasses as it will protect your expensive glass lenses.
Helio has some kind of problem with me and seems to like “editorializing” my video titles lately, as well as subtle attacks of a more specific-to-me nature, as seen below.
