One of the comments on the 1st page says this below… I wondered why sometimes i found 2 steamvr.settings files and it ends up that there is one in “default” and one in “personal” i guess.
From the OP in IL-2 forum:
The text I copied comes from this default.vrsettings file. It says that any setting, not in the (personal) steamvr.vrsettings file will be taken from this default.vrsettings file.
Therefore, if you remove the max setting in your steamvr.vrsettings file it will be taken from this default.vrsettings file.
Now it is possible then it seems if your running different hmds the max value might be getting lowered and perhaps not updating to a new max value with another hmd is used. At least by the post when usung SteamVR(OpenVR) with OpenXR runtime not having this limiter?
As of FEBRUARY, the last 2 comments says this (exactly what xabbu said):
I don´t know where but I heared that the SteamVR Beta allows to override that limit. I have not tested myself.
Go to the WMR settings under SteamVR and choose “Allow resolution higher than recommended”. You must have at least version 1.3.64 of WMR for SteamVR for this option to show.
Theres a setting somewhere like that. maybe just for wmr, but ill check in the beta app when i update steamVR also.
From What O am reading it seems the mac res setting would normally be set ny the hmd manufacturer pr steamvr baded on tje native hmd res × X. As in theory anything higher is believed not to give you any further gains in fidelity so caps it out?
Which is not necessary to do. Same if you target to high a res in flat gaming it will just crash and you fix it.
I always read that fpsVR sees the actual resolution while steamVR doesnt read it right. We’d have to check there as well to see whats going on, but if its not set and we then set a value in the settings file, the resolution changes in steamVR.
All i know is that this sorcery works.
Theres more factors of course, thats why i told Jame yesterday - TRY IT first. I found 2 others yesterday that saw a difference with a crystal, while i was on an 8kx
I went back and watched MRTVs unboxing video as he said he had the final retail box and the HUB is nowhere to be seen??? In fact I’ve not seen it anywhere.
So are Pimax going to release a new package including the HUB which will fix DiscoVRs connection problems? That means these HUBs need to be manufactured in quantity and that takes time. 2 months minimum depending when manufacturing started. Who knows.
Well there you go. What I’ve been saying all along.
Lack of testing and a design issue with the hardware, software can’t fix.
Hopefully it’s just THIS (Hub Unit) and nothing wrong with the other hardware itself.
I’d certainly wish NOT to have to use this extra hardware though…
And MAYBE I won’t need to. But if they’re halting and then supplying this, it must be a wide-spread enough issue that they need to do it.
Anyways. Yeah, some more time I guess. Lots of ‘HOW TO’ videos pumping out from PIMAX on their YouTube channel, but virtually no units so far in sight, except for the testers’ and a few others here and there.
Judging by posts on Reddit that have said completed payment receiving email early this month. One member there or more has said support said another 2 to 4 weeks. So either end of May to mid June for first batch it seems.
Did you get any notification from Pimax that you are able to fully purchase the Crystal?
I have paid the pre-order, but have not heard anything after that.
Hi again,
I paid my pre-order on 04 Nov 2022, but I don’t know my number in the queue. I guess that Pimax will (hopefully) notify me when my turn comes up.
My pre-order was number 28 on 5th Nov so i might hear something within a few weeks maybe, still not sure if i’m going to pay the full price and purchase a Crystal though.
So it looks like Pimax had around 50 pre orders in the first week because a guy in the second week was no 65. That’s pretty disappointing after a massive booth at CES.
I wonder how much is down to Pimax and their reputation or the fact the delays took so long a competitor like Bigscreen Beyond has emerged from nowhere. Or are people waiting in the wings for Crystal features to be enabled?
I don’t think wireless, eye tracking or even the lighthouse FP will fix Crystals sales. MRTVs follow up reviews point out that Crystal only makes sense for Flight Simmers which is a small niche of VR.
So can Crystal save Pimax or was I right all along?
