Is it better that Odyssey+ in terms of SDE ?

Yes, both 8K+ and 8KX. And even 8K+ is way sharper than Odyssey+. I only tested O+ twice and found it to be blurry smilar to PSVR, the lack of clarityā€¦ But hey its a 299 headset, not a bad effort after all!

Ok. Now you got my attention. Still need to wait for reviews about 3D depth and eye strain.

Check it on Hmdq. If I recall right it gives per eye FoV as well. @risa2000

Can you test the performance of Large (Full) FOV in 8K+ or Upscale mode? Iā€™m curious to know how that performs in games like Boneworks, Asgardā€™s Wrath, etc. Also I have a 2080 Ti with an i7 8700 processor. Will my CPU restrict performance on these headsets?

I can see 20 rings. I think there may be more, but the phone camera shot gets blurry before the gray fog kicks in.

Probably not, except for most of the flight simulators (which are mostly limited by single-thread performance). In Elite Dangerous, my i7-8700K is running between 7 and 15% utilization and my factory-overclocked 2080 is at 80-90% utilization.

Hey Sweviver. Bit off topic, but is there anything new in regards to Brainwarp 2.0?

Thanks for the ED info! 6144 looks pretty good. 8192 looked even better (stars were more like points of light, instead of small blobs), but that size added an additional 7 seconds per jump (over 6144). Thatā€™s a killer on a long-range expedition, so Iā€™m sticking with your suggestion. Itā€™s a good balance between quality and time-to-render.

indeed where is brainwarp 2.0?And any news on the deluxe audiostrap?

The grey fog is very thin, i would say as thin as a pinky (finger).

No news about it, the engineers seems busy with improving firmwares for 8KX and other more important things atm. I have tested maybe 10 firmwares now, some are really pushing the limits heheā€¦

Martin - Carry On, Keep Testing

My take away is the AeroFly Shots with the distant scenery. The detail looks nice with the trees on the hills. I would assume pushing 9k horizontal res would be nigh on 2.2x native given not all of the 4K res is utilised.

Should be looking good at around the 5 to 6K mark or 1.5x SS (Large FOV).

Not sure how PiTool/SteamVR Beta is calculating resolutions aside from taking into account Hz the headset is dialed in at but, if you leave Video on Auto and run the App settings at 150 or 200 one should get decent results.

The latest PiTool and SteamVR Beta seem to be giving me great reesults on stock HMD settings in PiTool (IPD/Vertical Offset) on my 8K.

Looking forward to receiving my 8K-X and hope by then FFR is stable in Il2 Great Battles. I know DCS is going to Vulcan for its Graphics Engine, not sure on time frames though. It will be nice when it arrives though.

When are Voodoo and Mrtv getting the X? Like to see some independent opinions! @Matthew.Xu @PimaxUSA

Hi @SweViver, do you know if the native mode will be allow us to switch betwen different refresh rate like in upscaling mode (ex: 64Hz, 75Hz)? I think it is best to reach refesh rate with the FPS available than using smart smoothing for speed games (The must will be to allow more refresh rate available).

I do wonder if you actually managed to catch the distortion on photo. It actually seems like it, but maybe itā€™s caused by the cam. I tried to draw red lines across the wooden panes

Where the first photo is the X. I started at the left, then made sure it was correctly lined out in the middle. And you then see it too low on the right side. While on the index itā€™s 100% correct.

I tried several times and always come to the same conclusion. But again, it might be the photos. Would be interesting though if you could catch distortion like that on photo.

Actually, it IS distortion and canā€™t even be seen much easier vertically:

Where the first one is the X and the wall bends inwards to the upside.

This is quite cool, never realized you could photograph distortion like this. I never managed to get good shots like this myself.

I find it extremely easy to see in this photo where you just look at that wall line above: https://community.openmr.ai/uploads/default/original/2X/2/28ec2a929890f38a4c03d2d030a6190a1156fd43.jpeg and then look at the X, then at the index, switch back and forth quickly and itā€™s very easy to see. The index shows everything geometrically correct, while the 8k-X shows the ā€˜fish eye/bowlā€™ effect (=distortion). From what I see it seems similar to what I experience on my 5k+

Anyway thatā€™s why I love the index so much and you can see it very well on this photo (if you switch quickly back and forth looking at that wall with the clock). The index shows everything how it should be, geometrically correct, while the 8k-X is quite distorted.

Then again, Iā€™m sure others wonā€™t mind and some donā€™t even see it. Itā€™s personal I guess. Maybe Iā€™m just sensitive to it.

I think the fishbowl effect is not too much of a problem. My biggest problem is the warping when i move my head which I could no eliminate and once I see it it distracts me a lotā€¦
For racing and cockpit games its not a problem, but for all other gamesā€¦

So what is ā€˜warpingā€™ then? I always figured that when people talked about warping they were talking about distortion. Or do you simply mean that objects seem to ā€˜bendā€™ (like rubber) when moved? Which of course is the fish bowl effect (distortion) but in movement.

Heh. Let me tell you one thing. Whatever you see on these images, the Index DOES NOT have have a bigger sweet spot than ANY of the Pimax headsets. I dont even understand why someone would even discuss this. Anyone, simply anyone, who has tested the Index and Pimax, knows this.

Sorry Sweviver, Iā€™m not sure if youā€™re replying to me? Iā€™m not talking about sweetspots. The index has 0 distortion over the whole lense area. Itā€™s geometrically stable over the whole area. While the pimax images always bend near the edges (very well demonstrated in the photos above)
