Based on all the user reviews you guys have read so far, are you excited for the 8KX? Do you think they are on schedule to fulfill pre-orders by August/September?
Yes, I am. I think they are, as long as there are no new delays.
I am excited to receive the 8KX the reviews so far have been 90% positive and I also feel much will improve such as the colours via future software updates. The original og Vive or rift wow factor is harder to replicate as headset in general have got better. I am also confident they will soon get through the backers and upgrades as the numbers are really not that high. 380 backers and 500 to 1000 upgrades. Pimax stated they should hit 600 per month by the end of the month and this would scale up. Fingers crossed they do.
I’m betting on them having done better testing this time around. Had to swap my 5K+ for a new one and got the better model which was produced later.
So I’m hoping the X is good from the beginning but there is a bit of fear for sure.
As for schedules… I don’t really see why there is a problem now but I am still expecting unforseen delays
I think the headset is going to have the same problem as the previous headsets, because they use the same lenses. The VR view will not feel natural like it does on other headsets. Each person will be different, but one feeling is a sort of fishbowl effect. It ruins the whole experience, because it immediately takes you out of feeling like you are in VR. MRTV described it a different way in his question and answer for the G2 (like you are wearing someone elses glasses), but basically the same conclusion. I don’t wear glasses, so I am not sure what he was describing though. But, that the VR view is off, in general. That, and many other issues with Pimax, will keep the headset from becoming mainstream.
I am excited for sure (to receive 8KX+HT+ET)…!
Not using my 5K+ much any longer as I’ve kinda started “saving” nice games for the X (I did the same thing after pre-ordering the 5K+ - stopped playing all the big/good games on the Vive).
I think they’ll make it this time but if not, I’ll wait longer…
I’m excited for more reviews. After receiving the stretch goals I may order an X. The reviews and quality of stretch goals will be a major decision maker. If they fail to impress then this may as far as it goes for me. If impressed I may go all in and purchase alot of pimax hardware.
I think we are going to have those whom have no issues, Some issues and those whom find the headset not suitable for them.
No perfect headset for all will continue to be the case.
I’m not sure the lenses are the real problem, unless you hate Fresnel lenses on general principle. Imo, the slight godrays I see on occasion aren’t a big deal for me.
I think the “fishbowl effect” might be due more to the inability to move the lenses closer or further from your face (and maybe even closer together). What I do know is that personally, I see almost no distortion. I have to really look for it or I have to use Wide FOV instead of Normal. There’s only a small difference in FOV size, but a huge framerate (performance) cost, so have no desire to use Large FOV anyway.
Yeah, every body who’s gotten them have had nothing but good things to say. At the moment it seems that it might finally be time for TESTED to do that long awaited review.
I felt that way at CES (like I was wearing someone else’s glasses) when trying the Xtal, but the 8kx was perfect.
I am hoping that the thin foam included in 8KX package is much thinner than original comfort kit foam.
With standard comfort kit on my 8K+, I experienced serious ditortion over about 30 degrees horizontal unless I push my face forward really hard.
Also MURA and removed upper USB are my main concerns.
It is indeed much thinner.
Thank you for the confirmation. Could you tell us exactly how much thinner is it? 1.5mm? 2mm?
@PimaxUSA: how many 8KX have shipped so far to the backers, and is Pimax still on track to ship to all (original 8KX) backers this month ?
I’ll have to check again but I think the number of units produced is already greater than the number of X backers. The production is definitely outrunning shipping.
That’s great news thank you for the update. Now upgrades and preorders.
After almost three years of waiting, some experience with a loaner unit, reading this and the former forum: not that excited. Have not unpacked it since arrival on Friday.
