I would check to see what version of steam they are using, SteamVR or SteamVR Beta. might help if you are on the same page.

@spamenigma A request please. Can you post how games are looking and playing with the small FOV. Also how comparable the image and play is compared to any other headsets you might be used to. Many thanks.

Hey, those hinges where the sides connect to look curiously slightly different (inside the headset, instead of protuding out) from how it was in @SweViver and @mixedrealityTV shots, could you take a close up on them? Would help tons with the DAS-Pimax adapter project.

Will do, I’ll finish up this post shortly to conclude it as a first impression experience. And I can move on to more in-depth testing and playing. I’ve quickly run through a few games just to get a first impression and will mention that. But obviously anything I’m doing at this stage is quick look with mostly unaltered settings… (HINT: :slight_smile: )

Pimax have said is should be good for most people, slim chance it happens to the odd one depending on where they are and if so for them to get in touch with Pimax.

Done final update to my post (above) for my initial experience. Slight wall of text at the end but hope it reads ok?

Happy to answer any questions and try things out, got a lot of VR playing ahead of me now :slight_smile:

Have you tried an Oculus Go? If so, how would you compare the SDE and overall image quality to it? Or any other HMDs for that matter.

No I haven’t had the chance, I’d got my samsung s9+ (with a cracking new feature on the back) and bought the gearvr not long before the Oculus Go came out. Since I was aware of santa cruz rather than get one anyway I decided to hang on for what we now know as Quest.

I’d not tried the Pimax before, no love for the UK yet showing it off :cry: :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I found the FOV to be on another level but something I very quickly took for granted. I guess its hard to make an observation on just being able to see. I’m sure it will be more noticeable going back to another HMD. So I guess the main thing is its a problem that is a good way towards being removed!

I was initially used to the Vive/Rift. I accepted the tech limitations and FOV didn’t really bother me (nowhere near as much as SDE and clarity did). I’m going to be doing some swapping between my rift/vive/5k+ at some point this weekend and get a better feel for it, I’m sure at that point I will notice!

Hmm… That doesn’t sound too good. I mean that sounds like it’s not really a whole other experience, or am I misinterpreting your words? If the extra FoV would add much to the feeling of presence, then I guess you’d not take it so quickly for granted? Can you elaborate on that and on if the extra FoV adds to the feeling of presence and the whole experience?

When I stood on The Lab : Vesper Peak, it looked fantastic, I would certainly say I got a great feeling of presence as I was taking in the view… but that’s the point here. Being asked how was the FOV is now like being asked how is it being able to see… err I can see fine… :slight_smile: its a problem further removed.

Its hard to describe not having an issue :slight_smile:

I’ve just sat in big screen for 10mins watching a film, and that was night and day! For Rift/Vive I would kind of line up the edge of the screen to the edges of the FOV. Now I’m seeing far beyond that, but again I can’t describe the feeling… just its a problem removed.

Does toggling the PiTool option “Compatible with parallel projections” fix this for you?
