I find videos actually really bad. It’s a meme for me. Ironically the only video I found in VR to be good was a trailer made in 2017 for a game.
The problem for me is that 360 video even at 4K and above is too ‘low res’ I prefer games.

Yea, movies need source resolution. The display won’t matter much. I’ve been inquiring about the highest possible content here on the forum before and even suggested Pimax should nudge content makers to make even higher res content for these new generation headsets. After all, VR nature videos want realism just as much as gamers do

*VRbangers used to be the highest with 6k
*Virtualtaboo started shooting in 7k a while ago
*CzechVR now shoots in 8k, that’s the highest there is right now.
So that’s some high res content just in time for the 8k-X

Quick question:
I stopped watching 180 degrees videos cause it caused me headaches. The center of the video is fine, but the corners are not aligned I would say. Like if it was mapped wrong. My eyes are trying to focus so hard.
When you guys look at the four corners, do you have the same thing. By the way, it does this with any type of 180 videos with every software.

A bit embarrassing to admit, but my decision to upgrade from the 8k to the 8k-X right now really comes down to how much better these videos look in the X. If there is not a big improvement I will just wait until the 3080Ti is out before I make a purchase.

Without looking at your video, I can tell you that the 8k + looks twice as good as the older 8k.
the 8k + has the same LCDs as the x, and displays the video material identically. You make no mistake.
But if you will only see videos and not gaming, the 8k+ (with the better Headstrap) Is your choice.

What video vr player supports hevc codec ?
Could you please elaborate on what makes it look twice as good? This video already almost looks like real life in the old 8k.
Also with 7680×3840 resolution I would think it would look a lot sharper using native resolution in the 8k-X compared to the upscaled 8k+. With studios aggressively pushing higher resolutions it would suck being left with a headset that is not fully able to take advantage of it.
DeoVR supports playback of this video. Make sure to install hevc through the Windows store, and try with directshow off in settings. (You need a Nvidia 1060 or better videocard also I believe.)
the high resolution of the video refers to the entire area. because you only see a small area in the glasses, the native potential of the X is not exhausted
Compared to the 8k, the missing SDE has a positive impact. The picture looks more natural.
yes, the 8k was good for videos, but the plus is better.
This used to be true with the old headsets, but with the wide FOV Pimaxes you actually see almost the entire 180 degree field of the video so you now want a headset with resolution that is close to the video resolution.
Actually every player. You need to have to have the codec installed. 1$ at MS store or other sources.
