Can you play the latest and most popular VR games on Pimax 8K and 5K+ on a GTX 1070 - even on a laptop?
Today I will give you some answers with 19 benchmarked VR games. Hope you will find it interesting guys!
And have a lovely Friday night! I will catch up all comments and messages later tonight…
I’m really thinking that the issue here is memory bandwidth. the 1070 only has 256 GB/sec memory bandwidth, where the 1080 ti has 484 almost double. I’m thinking with these really high resolutions the card simply can’t transfer the information fast enough to keep up.
This also makes me doubt going from the 1080ti to the 2080 as it i=has slightly less memory bandwidth…I just wish there were some real VR benchmarks for both the 2080 and 2080ti…
I know you’re waiting for your RTX2080-TI… but I can’t help but wonder if you go for the 5K+… would the non-TI version of the RTX be acceptable? How much more performance could one expect compared to your over-clocked GTX-1080 TI? I’m debating myself to either purchase the RTX-2080 or a used GTX-1080TI to upgrade from my standard GTX 1080
Only problem is they don’t really represent real game benchmarks. I believe the “Blue room” bench is just DX11 and not 12. which is good. As the 20 series seems to perform better in DX12 and Vulkan. So even in DX 11 it seems to be performing better than the 1080ti.
We will have to see though as I mentioned the 2080 has a slightly lower memory bandwidth than the 1080 ti. The 2080 ti should be nice and blow away the other cards.
Maybe? I don’t think it should be too bad as it is not that much lower than the 2080 ti. But there is always going to be those one off cases where the game performance just might not be there due to either bandwidth or the amount of memory.
EDIT: This sucks making 2 decisions at once 5K+ vs 8k and 2080 vs 2080 ti the decisions really depend off on another and we have nothing to base the decision off.
Im seriously concerned about gpu usage, it’s too low and can mean a lot in performance.
Im sure you checked but, it’s the laptop in maximum performance and keeping temps under control?
But Iam glad my brain obviously do not the same way as you since fps drop to 60 (omg 60?!) doesnt make me sick in VR, like at all.
So its personal, imagine you would not recommend to buy a boat because you got seasick, how about ppl that are not…?
And you says that running games with lower setting doesnt worth it? Seriously you think we can not enjoy the SDE and the FoV?
Iam not even talking about the fact that we are not really supposed to have controllers before a while so, Fallout and such wont be played yet, have time to updrade.
Just please dont say that “true VR enthousiasts doesnt play on 1070 anymore”, this is insulting and discriminate, Ive been dreaming about VR for… since at least “The Lawnmower Man” which is almost 30 year old movie and owning a 1080+8k doesnt make anyone more enthousiast that another.
To my knowledge it is exactly the other way round: the lower the gpu resolution, the more visible cpu-bottleneck becomes. Nevertheless, despite the high resolution the cpu could have a part. Or as the ram bandwidth is called.
