New Pimax 4k + nolo, no display or tracking

I bought a new Pimax 4k + nolo, trying to get it to work now.

Situation:
Using Windows 7 with GTX970
I’ve never seen any display in the headset using Pimax mode. I have seen a desktop display in video mode. The LED on the headset is usually blue.
Headset seems to have the most recent firmware.

I’ve installed Piplay from the website, so I assume its the most recent version.
I also installed Pitools from the same place, I assume its the most recent version.

Nolo parts are all paired.
On room setup, I see the 2 controllers and the device that sits on the headset as connected. The 4th one, the “lighthouse”, is not connected.

I’ve followed a lot of searched solutions, tried reinstallation, stopping & starting the PiServiceLauncher etc, nothing has changed. Yesterday, once, I saw all 4 devices as connected, so I know it can be done. I have no idea what caused that to happen though, and it didn’t last long.

So in summary I seem to have 2 problems:
No display in Pimax mode.
No tracking.

I have ~10 days to solve this before I return it under Czech consumer rights, so fingers crossed.

Kindest regards
DMarkwick

Something I forgot to add:
Another detail: I often see references to a “enable lighthouse” option in Pitools, but I never see it. Also, in my C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Pimax\runtime folder I don’t see any config folder, so no config/lighthouse files to delete, which is something I often see as part of a solution.

Have tried reconnect usb, hdmi?

Yep. Tried booting up disconnected then connect, & booting up connected.

it means we are waiting for support

I thought Pitool is for the 5k/8k and Piplay is for 4k? Are you using the correct software?

If you have installed piplay that would of been replaced when you installed pitool.

As pitool is the version made specifically for 5k+ and 8k.

That’s not saying that pitool can’t be used with the 4k but only tested the 4k with the 1st 2 versions of it. The later versions of pitool I don’t think work well or even at all with the 4k.

I have just checked my Pitool version on my test pc which has 4k (no Nolo though) and it is using Pitool V1.0.1.95 and firmware V1.0.0.265

I would uninstall your current version of Pitool and Piplay (if its still installed) and then install Pitool V1.0.1.95

Ah, sorry  I certainly didn’t mean it as any kind of “threat” just that, if all fails then I’m no worse off. I’m still hopeful though.

OK I’ll try that after work tonight. Do you know where I can get different versions of Pitool?

Thanks. Are they suitable for Pimax 4k? I’ve been told that I should uninstall Pitools and use PiPlay only.

never mind, I’ll try it anyway

You need to uninstall both the PiPlay and pitool version you have installed as yes the PiPlay was OK for the 4k (all versions of piplay were) but when you installed pitool it would of voided the PiPlay install.

Then you can install the PiTool version I mentioned above.

Thanks for the help everyone, I appreciate it. I really hope I can get this sorted.

So I uninstalled, rebooted, installed 1.0.1.91 but I still don’t see head tracking. The headset itself displays a grey blank screen which I guess is an improvement, as far as I’ve been able to find out it’s because the headset is not tracked.

I still get “ready” for 3 of the 4 components in Pitools, with the base station not connecting. I think this is the main issue now, getting the base station to connect and the lighthouse working.

I still see nothing in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Pimax\runtime other than text files, no folder called lighthouse. I also don’t see any option in Pitools settings tab that refers to a lighthouse.

I have added 2 members of pimax’s tech team to your post. Hopefully they can help resolve noloVR with your pimax 4k.

@anon74848233 can you help.

Thanks Heliosurge. It’s pretty much definitely a Nolo issue right now, when I unplug the Nolo I can get the headset to work in SteamVR, and try some applications that can use an alternative controller e.g. XBox controller. Obviously using internal gyros only, so rotational positioning but no translation.
